They're playing "Ragged Wood" by Fleet Foxes right now. And the cashier keeps smiling at me. Ah, the little things that make my night.

Sup, Netphoria? How are you guys making it through this wonderful night? I'm doing research on this place for a class next semester, so I'm forced to come here instead of someplace that tastes better. :(

Ew. Now it's a bad cover of Buckley's "Lilac Wine".

One inch of freezing rain tonight. It has begun. I expect power to be off in a few hours and then I will slowly turn to ice.

Oh man. You're actually hanging out at a Starbucks...

Right now, I'm in a city where I don't know anyone, doing an internship.

So, I've got nothing to do, and I've gotta get this research done anyway.

I would have tried to find a local place.

Trotskilicious

I mean I like to patronize local places, since talking shit about chains doesn't do any good if you spend your money there.

I didn't have a choice. It was assigned to me.

It's more relaxing than sitting in my hotel room, anyway.

Trots would have picked somewhere else besides Starbucks.

I'm snowed in. Just watched a family of deer walk by. It's really pretty here tonight.

It would be awesome if one of the deer came up to a glass door and your cat was right there and they, like, looked at each other. The only thing more awesome would be if somehow, someway, there was a picture taken of such a magical event.

A girl can hope, eh?

It snowed a lot here one day last week. South Louisiana! It was so awesome, but I still had to work. :(

My first post specifically states that it's "for a class next semester."

I'm researching their branding / graphic design aesthetic.

O.o

You have to be there to do that?

You need to take Slacking 101, you could do all this from home (or say, a local coffee shop) using a website and Advanced Bullshitting skills.

It's basically all you're doing anyway, even if you're taking it seriously.

So you got to buy stuff from Starbucks? I think you should demand a refund.

Sounds like a pretty B.S. degree to me, good luck with that guy.

Are you really that much of a slacker that you wouldn't put work into a degree that you enjoy?

Trotskilicious
12-18-2008, 11:39 PM
There's nothing about going to class that's enjoyable.

Trotskilicious
12-18-2008, 11:39 PM
And, yes.

If you can get an A cutting corners why wouldn't you do it?

Isn't that what this board is in total? A waste of time?

And you've provided entertainment, such as it is, for the evening.

It would be, except I don't have a cat. The coolest thing so far is one coming up by the porch and laying down while I was sitting there.

My name isn't Brennan, guy.

Good to see how annoyed you aren't.

As far as how my life is going, I got a degree in something stupid and generally useless because I wanted to do something I "enjoyed", graduated, picked up a 9-5 office job and get paid more than I necessarily need, have no stress and plenty of free time. I learned pretty early that the only reward for outstanding work is more work. And money I guess, but you can keep that.

I generally skim your posts like I did with my textbooks. And you can deny being annoyed till you're blue in the face, it doesn't make it true.

It's not that you're not doing work, guy. It's that you're taking short cuts, like speed reading. It's not really dishonest or deceitful. It's just amusing to me how some people will prepare for months to do a simple power point presentation and be horrible, stuttery and boring because they over-thought it while I can put together a presentation the night before taking quick notes of the material on a legal pad and just basically wing it and end up putting together an awesome presentation that actually got people's attention.

Granted, I didn't do very well consistently at school, flunked a bunch of classes because I was aimless and generally burdened with terrific malaise; but the times I did, I managed to do quite well taking shortcuts and doing less than half the amount of work of the star students, who were already stiff and joyless at 22. The fact that I graduated at all considering my academic record is still sort of astonishing to me, but it was because I saved my ass so many times with random strings of As. And it wasn't about applying myself, it was more about just showing up.

I'm sure people like yourself are motivated to be successful in the field of their choice, which is an alien concept to me since almost nothing I'd like to be successful at can be learned at a school, but my whole thing is that the thing I enjoy doing the most is not working. Do what you love, right?
