I mentioned this in my wrap-up thread but I haven't been getting hardly any suggestions. Is there a need for something like this? I was hoping to put together a compilation of the "best" versions of each song played on this tour, kind of like what was done for the 2000 soundboard comp. That's one of my most played boots that I own and I figured putting something together for the 20th anniversary tour would be a nice way to wrap things up. Here are some of my ideas for putting this thing together:
-First of all, I wanted to inc1ude at least 1 song from every city that they played. I thought this would be a good way to satisfy everyone who attended shows on this tour.
-I want to inc1ude the covers from the Halloween show as they'll probably never be played again.
-The acoustic version of Song for a Son should be included along with one of the electric versions, for completions sake.
-Nowhere Man will be included (it was only played once, am I right?)
-I'm hoping to get this thing done and torrented/treed by Christmas time or New Years
Here's what I need from anyone who is interested:
-Your thoughts on best versions available for each song played on this tour. Maybe we can put together a poll or something to work this out. If anyone can do that, it would be a great help.
-I have the flacs for both of the DC shows, the bridge school show, and the Cleveland show. Once we work out all of the details on what songs will be put on the compilation, I will need the flacs for the songs from the other shows (not the entire show mind you, just the individual songs)
-Ideas on how the tracklist should be laid out. Also, once we have a tracklist, I'll need input on how everyone wants the tracks divided between discs.
-Maybe someone could put together some nice artwork. I know most people don't even burn their boots to disc anymore but, for those that do, I'd like this to be well done... packaging and all.
-Once everything is complete, I'll need people with fast connections to help seed.
If I don't get enough responses, I'll consider this project abandoned and assume that there isn't a want for this. There's no need to take the time and put something like this together if it's only going to be appreciated by a few people. I'm posting this in the tour forum originally, but I'm also going to copy and paste to the trading forum. It can go either way as to which forum is most appropriate for this thread. Ideally, this should be posted on just one forum so, once we decide where most of the responses are coming from, one of the mods here can purge all of the posts into one thread.

Sixty-four songs. I had to spell that out so you understand what I'm going to be dealing with here. It's going to be a lot of work putting together a decent compilation of this tour. Thank god this was a short tour!
Songs that were only played once are in bold and dated. Once we get a definitive idea of the source of each song, that's how I'll be marking them. If I missed a song, let me know and I'll edit this post. And if you want, let people on the other boards (O-Board, Blamo, Hipsters, etc.) know what I'm up to. The more people voicing their opinions, the better this compilation will turn out.

I was debating whether or not to ******* all of the special guests appearances. I mean, this thing is going to be huge as it is. If the majority wants the guests appearances for completions sake, I'll do it. Thanks for the heads up on Close to You though. I forgot about that.
Also, Tom Sawyer. That's it. thanks SOLIDAge. I was thinking YYZ. Obviously I'm not a big Rush fan. List will be updated in a bit.

White Horse [Laid Back] (vocal tag only)
Stranglehold [Ted Nugent]
Tom Sawyer [Rush]
YYZ [Rush]
Born in the USA [Springsteen] was also teased on 11/8, I would use that version were I you.
That's the Way was not played electric this tour.
Jesse plays both drums and recorder on 12/7 set the controls, matt just plays drums on 11/21

You're probably right. I only added them for completions sake as the Halloween show was billed as part of the 20th tour.
edit: I'm only going to inc1ude the guest appearances if that source is considered the best performance of the song from the tour. Then I'll worry with properly naming song titles / teases / special guests.
Also, I want to add a rant-fueled Everything Is Beautiful, as those rants are going to be one of the parts of the tour that people will remember most. I like the DC rant, not only because I attended that show but because of the whole James Iha discussion. I've also heard a lot that the Set the Controls with Billy's brother playing timpani was pretty good (some say the only enjoyable version heh).
re:edit: I also don't want to ******* multiple versions of songs just because they have horns or are only slightly different. I'm talking about major variations (i.e. acoustic vs. electric) and Song for a Son is the only song I can think of that fits in that category. I could have sword That's the Way was played electric, but I guess I was wrong about that.

Ok, so I removed the Halloween shows and added Longing Goes Away (frogs set but features Billy). Thanks redbull, you've been a massive help. Also, the suggestions I've got so far have been included and will remain that way unless we get some objections.
edit: I also included We Only Come Out at Night and Everything is Beautiful from the DC shows. The DC EiB was my choice and I tagged on WOCOAN because those two songs ran into each other. Again, if this is deemed incorrect, it will be changed.

Yeah, the Chicago rant was interesting as well. I'll keep it in mind before I make any concrete decisions.
It doesn't look like as many people are as interested in this as I thought :/ I went ahead and bought the tour package for my own amusement though, so when I get a chance, I'll really listen to all the shows and make my own comparisons. I was hoping to have a lot more input from other users but, I'm going to go ahead and do this anyway, for my own enjoyment at least. Life has been pretty hectic for me lately though so, it's going to take me some time before I can give my own impressions on my favorite performances of the tour. Any and all opinions are more than welcome still though.

I fully agree with the mission statement of this project - the 2000 tour soundboard comp is one of those boots that still gets regular rotation, while other stuff has fallen by the wayside.
I thought the version of The Rose March from the San Diego show was great - but maybe it was just mediocre in the grand scope of things. I don't know, as I was at that show, but haven't heard anything else as of yet.
That's really only the two cents I've got - but I'm happy to toss them into the pile.
I could also happily seed hardcore from my work connection.

Leave out the covers that weren't played more than once. And good luck with this, I guess nobody with a sane mind bought more than 2 or 3 shows, so it may take a while to find "the best" versions.

I am definitely interested in this, but i haven't listened to many of the shows to know which versions are best.
My opinion is to keep it on the smaller end. ******* the tracks that got played regularly, plus some of the highlights of the lesss regularly played stuff. If anyone wants the full thing, they can download all of the tracks. A compilation should be a summary of a tour, not the whole tour. But thats just my opinion. :)
In keeping with the spirit of the tour, you could divide it into BS and WC shows, each of which are close versions of the two setlists. But again, its just an idea :)
