View Full Version : I've never taken the time to get into Zwan

Other than MSOTS, which is an obvious trainwreck, I have never taken the time to get into Zwan's "superior" music. Is there an online archive somewhere of Zwan's live endeavors where I could brush up on all this allegedly great music?

Idiotic answers aside, the Glass House Shows are a great place to start. Also look for the Hideout Session gigs.

I'd also recommend the PAris show.

Somebody on here compiled all the best quality djali zwan tracks, including studio tracks from the spun soundtrack, but I can't find the thread. I'd offer them myself but I'm away from the hard drive where my music is stored...if people can't find it and you're interested I'll dig it up for you later. Anyway, I think it's a good start....pretty much has everything.

For now, though, I found this post on hipsters united that should hopefully have some links still working:

The first 3 of these shows are my favorite "vintage zwan"--

2001/11/16 Glass House Pomona, CA, US
2001/11/20 Canes Bar & Grill San Diego, CA, US
2001/11/21 Roxy Los Angeles, CA, US
2001/12/13 Intersection Grand Rapids, MI, US
2001/12/13 Intersection Grand Rapids, MI, US
2001/12/14 Emerson Theater Indianapolis, IN, US
2001/12/14 Emerson Theater Indianapolis, IN, US

^Glorious, The Empty Sea, and Never Give Up....great stuff.

And the Missouri 2002 shows were the peak of Zwan, as far as, after that, they started dropping lots of those "good songs" from the setlist, and started heading in the direction of the stuff that's on the album--

2002/04/05 Blue Note Columbia, MO, US
2002/04/07 Galaxy St. Louis, MO, US
2002/04/08 Galaxy St. Louis, MO, US
2002/04/10 Galaxy St. Louis, MO, US
2002/04/12 Double Door Chicago, IL, US
2002/04/13 Double Door Chicago, IL, US
2002/04/14 Double Door Chicago, IL, US

^Check out Dust My Broom, Rivers We Can't Cross, I Know My Time Is Coming 'Round, Cast A Stone, For Your Love...

If you like Spilled Milk, the one they did on 2002/04/08 was insane. Jimmy's drumming toward the end was crazy.

was there a soundtrack to spun?

I saw Corgan on the poetry tour in 04. This happened:

Corgan: So I'm out of ideas... does anyone have any questions?
Guy next to me: Where is the Spun soundtrack?
Corgan: In a box. Any more questions?
Girl in the back: Can you play Luna?
Corgan: No more questions.

ok correction….

it seems there is only 1 spun djali song missing from the recent leak (Freedom), as opposed to 2 like I mentioned above.

according to the evidence discussed in this post, and the fact that MSOTS is not mentioned on either IMDB or during the END CREDITS, it seems what was thought to be MSOTS is actually Loving You Sunday Morning.

Every single thing in this post is absolutely correct.

But I have to add that my favorite song from the MO shows is Signal This Strong. Can't believe they dropped that song so fast, only played it 3 times.

I don't like keeping too many bootlegs because I end up never listening to any of them. So I've reduced my Zwan collection to the bare essentials:

First tour:
2001/11/16 Glass House Pomona, CA, US

Djali Zwan Tour:
2001/12/13 Late Show, Intersection Grand Rapids, MI, US
2001/12/14 Early show, Emerson Theater Indianapolis, IN, US
2001/12/14 Late Show, Emerson Theater Indianapolis, IN, US

First tour with Paz:
2002/04/14 Double Door Chicago, IL, US (best sounding recording of the bunch)

The Hideout Compilations (1 and 2)

Mary Star of the Sea Tour:
2002/12/19 Opera House, Toronto, Ontario (technically, this was before the CD was released, but the setlist is about the same... the recording is great too)

2003/02/08 Café de la Danse, Paris, FR (make sure you find a recording of the encore too)

Spun Soundtrack

Mix CD:

1. Danger Boy (Zwan Home Movie 2 or 3, can't remember)
2. Riverview (BBC Sessions)
3. To Love You (DVD rip)
4. Freedom Ain't What It Used to Be (Honestly Single)
5. Zwan Home Movie #5
6. Friends as Lovers (From the metro compilation that was up on the osite)
7. The Shinning Path (2001/11/21)
8. Signal this Strong (2002/04/07)
9. Down Down Down (DVD rip)
10. When The Saints Go Marching In (Home Movie #1, I think)
11. Dust My Broom (2002/04/13)
12. I'm Eighteen (BBC Sessions)
13. Spilled Milk (BBC Sessions)
14. What The World Needs Now Is Love (2001/11/18)
15. I Know My Time Is Coming (2002/04/08)
16. Nobody 'Cept You (Lyric single)
17. Number of the Beast (Honestly single)
18. Autumn Leaves (Lyric single)

I believe this encompasses all Zwan songs out there. Actually, if I'm not mistaken, I heard there were more Hideout songs available. If anyone has those and could upload them, it would be much appreciated.

Just curious.

I went to this show. This was my first experience of people holding up cell phones at a rock show. Some woman in front of me was on the phone the entire show holding up her phone so her "friend" could listed outside. It was the most obnoxious thing I have ever seen at a packed show. I couldn't focus on the music because she was babbling and holding her fucking Nextel yellow brick in front of my face the whole time. Bitch.

Yeah, I did multiple times, as did my guest. They acted as though they were too important to even acknowledge us. The show was so packed and the venue was an utter shit hole I didn't want to get kicked out and whatnot.

aw that sucks :(

there was a guy in front of me at boca with his digital camera in the air the whole time - for a few songs it blocked my whole view of billy and jimmy... i wanted to smack him

i didn't have the nerve to say anything though, i'm already a tall dude... i just kinda pushed my away around him to the side heh

like 2008 redbree, i never bothered to wade my way across dozens of live recordings to find out what i liked.

i'm sure that are some good songs there, but since corgan has always sounded like shit live, and those recordings are going to sound like a band playing next door, i just passed.

but now i might be curious. does anyone have a direct link to a streaming collection of highest available quality zwan, preferably of songs that will perfectly shoot into my personal tastes and preferences?

that would be great. go. oh and you're cunts if i don't like what i hear.

Here's a compilation I made some years back with a mixture of good quality live, spun b-sides, and dvd-rip tracks.. Yes, I have this comp in FLAC but this upload is 320 MP3..

https://mega.nz/#!8xoXAJ7K

1) Mary Star of the Sea (acoustic)

2) Love Lies in Ruin

3) Revolve

4) W.P.

5) Endless Summer (piano)

6) Consumed

7) For Your Love

8) Friends and Lovers (Lovers as Friends)

9) How Things are Meant to Be

10) If You're Gone

11) Signal This Strong

12) Eighteen

13) Love is a Battlefield (cover)

14) Of a Broken Heart

15) Love to Love

16) Number of the Beast (cover)

17) Riverview

18) Whatever, Whenever

19) Don't Let Me Down (Beatles)

20) To Love You

You forgot to ******* the decryption key to allow us poor schmucks to download it.

Edit: for some reason the word "i n c l u d e" is coming up as a dirty word and starred out lol... wtf?
