that trailer looks all kinds of awesome. but that's just coming from a former fan. I wonder how it comes off to people that never cared about star trek.

I'd say I 80% dug the trailer, and if you go over to empire online they have, basically, a shot-by-shot breakdown with JJ Abrams commentary for some more random spoiler stuff.

three problems:
One - Kirk on the motorcycle forlornly looking at them building the NCC-1701. C'mon, Leather Jacket and motorcyle staring off into space? What is this, Top Gun? Where's the "Dah-nah-nah-nah-nah" music.

Two - where's Lenoard Nimoy? Ain't this his movie about him traveling back in time and yadda yadda yadda? Are they trying to hide the sole aging original TOS castmember from potential ticket buyers?

Three- What's up with the special guest apperance by the Cloverfield(ish) monster near the end of the trailer? That movie was just meh. (Of course, maybe this flick will finally explain where the fuck that thing came from in a crossover)

Sure, this probably won't fit very well into continuity if you squint too hard (Kirk didn't know how to drive a car in Piece of the Action! The transporter effects are all wrong), but I'm down with a big budget TOS action flick. Sure, why not? (Star Trek can be molded into any genre you damn well please, that's why it has been around for so long.)

The bridge looks stupid. The controls for the ship are stupid. Also if you think they look bad in the trailer wait til you see it live.

Also Nimoy is in the trailer.. if you look, you can see he's heavily made up to look younger in the scene with the woman on the bed (Winona Ryder, who plays his mother). It's a quick shot though.

i can say taht don't get your hopes too high for a lot of Nimoy in the flick. There's some but it's mostly all new actors.

Also with the exception of Quinto and possibly Pegg, the characters all act completely different from what they are supposed to be.

only thing i didnt like was (judging by the few lines they had) they didnt seem to be attempting to mimic the original actors styles.

really hasnt softened my massive boner for this at all though.

He's in the trailer, you missed it.

It has potential. I'm not writing it off yet. We'll see.

Well, the people who would go see it because of Nimoy are already coming, yes? You put Old Spock in there and the non-Trekkies are going to presume they need to have watched all the series to know what the fuck is going on in this one. And then you do "Nemesis" numbers when your catering bill for this one is bigger than the "Nemesis" budget. So why not sell it as a simple, reboot-y origin story? I'm surprised they didn't call it "Star Trek Begins."

Sure, this probably won't fit very well into continuity if you squint too hard

Pretty sure the idea is that they're overwriting the past continuity. Bad guys go back in time to change the past, Spock follows but presumably can't set everything back exactly the way it was, time moves on with Apple Store Enterprise and car-driving Kirk and whatnot.

Someone remind me how Nimrod has seen the movie already and whether he saw parts or somehow the entire thing.

Rather than revisiting and rehashing the past I really wish they would advance the Star Trek story and time line. Please just start a new series and advance the time line 20-30 years from where DS9/Voyager left off.

Eh, TOS/TNG/VOY/DS9 would still exist anyway as Universe A (Star Trek has multiple multiple alternate universes). Probably the Trek novel/comic writers will have a field day writing umpteen crossovers when the JJ-Trek verse dies out.

At least Enterprise is still in continuity! It was before all this. (I read somewhere there's even an Admiral Archer / Porthos reference in here.)

My continuity geek will only get my ire up when they show the Old Spock / Nero / 24th Century stuff and it doesn't mesh with what we've seen from the TNG-verse. After they go back and fuck up the timeline, who cares? Basically, from what I can tell, you'd qualify this movie as a Sequel/Prequel/Reboot which is pretty nuts if they can somehow have it all make sense to all viewers concerned.

gotta say i have a massive hardon for quinto but this looks pish... looks like a big action blockbuster with the joy and soul sucked out of it, and star trek costumes slapped on

also i've been a fan of spaced for ages, sean of the dead since it first came out and hot fuzz (i will never see run fatboy run and how to make friends looked quite poor too) but simon pegg is so wrong for this, i've thought this ever since he was cast. just cause he was getting famous in america now is no reason to chuck him in a role like that. and i bet its going to be comic relief one liners all the way

disappointed, won't be seeing it in the cinema by the looks of it

You know what else has mastered anti-gravity? Space. You know? I mean, yeah, they walk around on their ships so they obviously have gravity generators or some shit. It's just a massive waste of energy.

I assume it would take more energy to put all of those parts into orbit than it would to just build it on the ground and launch from there.
