View Full Version : I'm caring for a newborn critter

My dog brought him in last night and after leaving it outside overnight to see if the mom would come back for it I brought it in the house this morning in the hopes that it would still be alive when I came home from work. I fed it some of that critter formula and I even was able to stimulate his first bowel movement!! I'm really not sure what it is...it's either a squirrel or a rat. I looked at pictures on google and they look the same as newborns, but I'm leaning on the former of the two considering my backyard is full of squirrels.

I hope I can keep it alive long enough to introduce it back to the wild...

I would be highly jealous if that is a squirrel. A pet squirrel is something I hope to one day have.

You should get a heating lamp or something to keep it warm.

my cousin used to do this kind of stuff, one time taking an abandoned duck egg home for incubation only to drop it by accident a few days later, splashing orange goo everywhere

Most rodents are born blind, hairless and helpless, but guinea pigs are born just like this:

an excerpt from her biography

Barbara founded 17th Street Communications in 2008 with a vision of bringing citizens, businesses and organizations closer to their government officials, with the ultimate goal of a more collaborative and open governing process. This vision combines her strong work and leadership experience with a personal passion for government service.

As the owner and founder of 17th Street Communications, Barbara is responsible for all aspects of the company. Most of all, Barbara enjoys the partnerships she has created as part of her business. She is enthusiastic about working with people and is committed to becoming a part of her clients’ teams to work creatively and efficiently to meet any challenges that arise.

Barbara has over 10 years of marketing, public relations and lobbying experience. Prior to 17th Street Communications, Barbara served as the Town of Sahuarita’s first-ever Communications Manager where she created and implemented public outreach strategies for the Town. Barbara also has significant experience in the lobbying field, serving as an advocate for local governments at the Arizona State Capitol. In addition, Barbara gained valuable marketing experience through her work with the University of Arizona Athletics Department.

A proud alumna of the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management, Barbara graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Marketing. She was named “Outstanding Senior” for her graduating class in the Marketing Department.

Barbara strongly believes in giving back to the Tucson community. Currently, she serves as a coach for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program, which helps individuals train for endurance athletic events while raising funds to find a cure for blood cancers. As a coach, Barbara has helped over 40 people complete a marathon, triathlon or century (100-mile) bike ride, who have collectively raised nearly $90,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Currently, Barbara serves as a director for the Green Valley-Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce. She is also active with the Tucson chapters of the Public Relations Society of America and Advancing Women in Transportation.

Barbara credits her family’s strong ties to local government for her dedication and drive in the field and for serving her community. She is particularly proud of her father and grandfather, who were both decorated police officers and took great pride in their work.

If you can't find a wildlife rescue group, contact an exotic vet, they could probably give you some good advice.
