no, not like that at all. i guess that makes you a psychotic narcissist. i'm talking about a general feeling—or perhaps i should say suspicion—that despite all the bullshit we tell ourselves, we're not really in charge. recent science would seem to support this

Yes I was waiting for the narcissist bit.
Also I don't believe that at all. It is almost as bad as people who think God listens to their prayers.
What evidence is their that we are not in charge?

please explain why you think it's "bad" to entertain the possibility that you're a meat robot. surely it's your refusal that approaches the silliness of the religious

I don't think it is bad, infact I would probably agree.
I was referring to people who think they are the centre of/have importance in the universe.

http://dickipedia.org/dick.php?title=Brett_Favre
Favre began his life as a dick when he was born and given the surname Favre, a name so obnoxious that it can only be pronounced by saying the letters in an order other than the one in which they are written. Favre is part French and part Native American, making his middle name, Lorenzo, completely inappropriate, particularly for a blonde guy who spent most of his adult life in braces.

You talking about determinism or natural direction? The thing is, you can say quite easily that every event will cause you to follow quite specific criterial direction, that shit is irrefutable. Questioning free will is meaningless, we act on sensory perception, sensory perception is governed by outside reality as is everything we could possibly do/know. Therefore there is no way we are ever in charge of ourselves, but we still have an identity crafted from outside criteria, so we have unique roles be whatever they are, why question that?
Your questioning is determined by the factors of outside sources, fuck man listen to us robots of the universe.

If we acted avoidant of our experiences we would be alien to reality. Alien to the natural chemistry of the universe.
There is no such thing as an abstract being. But I wonder if the ultimate goal of nature is to create one sometimes.

i don't "get the feeling", i think the world feels pretty elastic and full of options, but i realise that everything i do is a reaction and thus somewhat predetermined, but i'm ok with that

i dont get why "free will" couldnt take place before the signals they pick up... i mean, they ask you to push a button and can predict what you will push 4 seconds later... someone explain to me why nothing occurring before this could violate determinism
