This index (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=bcsstats/080905) just came out.

The SEC only schedules 28% of their games against BCS teams.

The Pac-10, for example, schedules 40% of their games against BCS teams (and their non-BCS teams are usually Boise State, Fresno State, Hawaii, TCU, Utah, BYU etc...)

you seem to think that schedule making is a better indicator of team quality than bowl game performances. i don't understand that.

One bowl game per team is not going to indicate anything about a conference's combined strength. The more outside tests a conference has, the greater ability to make an accurate judgement. One bowl game is just going to tell you about how well team A matched up with team B. We know how good the Pac-10 is every year (for good or bad) because the majority of those teams actually schedule some competition. The SEC schedules garbage and then yells all season about how they are the best.
