He just left, and I think I should have tipped him but I'm not sure if it's customary or not.

Banana 09-03-2008, 07:37 PM He fixed my hd cable box. It's been having problems for awhile so they sent him out to fix it/replace it. He was only here for about 5-10 minutes. And one of my best friend's dad is a mailman and he apparently gets a shitload load of cash around Christmas time in tips. Rider 09-03-2008, 07:40 PM Tipping people who get paid large hourly sums is really fucking stupid. MonteLDS 09-03-2008, 07:43 PM does this cable guy work for a big company.. ? if so no way- if he was a consultant you hired personally, then maybe. But it is in no way customary. sickbadthing 09-03-2008, 07:52 PM does this cable guy work for a big company.. ? if so no way- if he was a consultant you hired personally, then maybe. Schrute barden 09-03-2008, 10:18 PM my grandmother gets our mail carrier a bottle of wine for every holiday. is it really that unheard of to gift such a person? what did the cable guy do? Considering out of everyone you know, only your grandmother gives gifts, I don’t think it’s that common. Rider 09-03-2008, 11:31 PM Considering out of everyone you know, only your grandmother gives gifts, I don’t think it’s that common. No he's right it's very common. In the US people go crazy around the holidays and give gifts to anyone who works for them, Mail Carriers, Garbage men, Doormen, park lot attendants.... It's fucking insane. Floppy Nono 09-03-2008, 11:33 PM well, to be fair, i never really polled anyone else i know about their habits. for all i know they could be giving gifts... Could also depend on where you live. NYC has whole culture based around tipping. I know people who have lists of 30 random people who just work wither in their apartment building or in the parking lot they use etc. It just amazes me doormen make a fortune to do literally nothing, people tip them. Garbage men in NYC start at 45k without overtime After your 5th year in NYC sanitation you can easily clear 100k a year, but people will tip them if they throw away a couch. waltermcphilp 09-03-2008, 11:49 PM you should have gave him 50 bucks for the naughty channels.
