He just left, and I think I should have tipped him but I'm not sure if it's customary or not.

It's customary to at least give a bj.

Do you tip the garbage crew?
Do you tip the meter reader?
Do you tip the postman?

Not good examples because there are a decent amount of people that tip their garbage man and postman.

my grandmother gets our mail carrier a bottle of wine for every holiday. is it really that unheard of to gift such a person?

what did the cable guy do?

Banana

He fixed my hd cable box. It's been having problems for awhile so they sent him out to fix it/replace it. He was only here for about 5-10 minutes.

And one of my best friend's dad is a mailman and he apparently gets a shitload load of cash around Christmas time in tips.

Tipping people who get paid large hourly sums is really fucking stupid.

does this cable guy work for a big company.. ? if so no way-

if he was a consultant you hired personally, then maybe. But it is in no way customary.

How did you taste? Did they just take a little rib meat?

"Why tip someone for a job I'm capable of doing myself? I can deliver food. I can drive a taxi. I can, and do, cut my own hair. I did however, tip my urologist, because I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones."

Considering out of everyone you know, only your grandmother gives gifts, I donít think itís that common.

No he's right it's very common. In the US people go crazy around the holidays and give gifts to anyone who works for them, Mail Carriers, Garbage men, Doormen, park lot attendants....

It's fucking insane.

Could also depend on where you live. NYC has whole culture based around tipping. I know people who have lists of 30 random people who just work wither in their apartment building or in the parking lot they use etc. It just amazes me doormen make a fortune to do literally nothing, people tip them. Garbage men in NYC start at 45k without overtime After your 5th year in NYC sanitation you can easily clear 100k a year, but people will tip them if they throw away a couch.

I was actually thinking about this, only I wanted him to get me NFL Network and Showtime. But then I looked in my wallet and I saw I only had 2 bucks on me.

Odds are your garbage man makes 5 times more a year then you do, do not tip your garbage man. They get paid very well to pick stuff up, even heavy stuff.

today's garbage man? Uh.. mine do.. they run up and down the streat.. and throw the trash in.. but I am pretty sure they make some good money so I dont know if you are supposed to tip but someone told me that if you put something big in the trash, then its nice to tip.. im thinking because maybe they arent required to take big things and we are supposed to bring them to the dump
