i picked up this solid, but ugly oak table off of freecycle and am refinishing it - the wood is *beautiful* underneath the old stain! I had been planning to so some designs with the burner, but it's so nice I am just varnishing it as is.

it looks like two stag beetles you should cut round the grain where it looks like two stag beetles or perhaps they look like squid and make two small coffee tables

That is a really nice finish. But it could just be glued over some chipboard, i spose. so until i lift the wood, there is no way to tell if the wood is good.
