View Full Version : No more open taping?
Night for Days 08-10-2008, 03:18 AM I heard that the first two shows were No Audio and No Video. I heard it was the policy of the venues, but I also heard Smashing Pumpkins did not alert either of the venues in the first place. So, what is the policy? Is the band ever going to inform the venues of the policy or is it up to the fans to inform the venues the night of the shows?
Bullet1979 08-10-2008, 03:50 AM I spent over $900 on a high definition video camera and media for these first two shows and was turned down both times. The staff had no idea what was going on at the Davenport show, and in Hammond it was a strict "no" from everyone I asked... This really sucks.
Playback 08-10-2008, 03:51 AM I was informed by the Horseshoe Casino that regardless of the Smashing Pumpkins policy, they would not allow audio taping, video, or even cameras anywhere in the casino including the lobby and common areas. Too bad too. I had my new Korg 1-bit recorder ready to go.
take out your stealth gear.

I was at the Davenport and Hammond shows too. I'd heard in Davenport that the venue policy overrides the bands policy. So that's what happened there. As far as Hammond, I'd heard that many people were told you could bring cameras into the show, but keep them in your pockets while in the casino itself. In other words, don't break them out until you're in the venue.
toadkat9 08-10-2008, 09:41 AM And that was just point and shoot cameras. No video cameras period. You'll find this rule in EVERY casino in the country... not just this one.
Slurpee 08-10-2008, 10:16 AM Damn, it's like you guys don't even know what "crotching" means.
SlingeroGuitaro 08-10-2008, 10:30 AM their junk is either too big or their pants are too emo
mickyshambles 08-10-2008, 10:33 AM i'm not a taper by any means but it seems pretty easy to understand. billy allows taping but obviously the venue has the last say.
reconizze.

crotching:
to pry on the security guards homophobia by asking him to frisk your dick. Since he won't want to risk touching/arousing you, you can walk in with your gear bulging in your jacket.
Spaldz 08-10-2008, 10:48 AM I once tried that though and ended up shagging the bloke
mickyshambles 08-10-2008, 10:50 AM no-one said it was easy spaldz.

The Borgata Casino in Atlantic City, NJ lets me walk through the casino lobbies with my Canon 5D, multiple lenses, and large Gitzo tripod. As long as I'm not taking photos inside the gambling area, they don't ever care. Additionally, the Borgata venues (there are two of them), as well as Atlantic City's House of Blues (in the Showboat Casino), all allow audio, video, and/or photography when a band allows this via their policy. This "The Venue" in Hammond, IN must be a first to have an all-out ban regardless of what the artist's official policy is. What a shame.
Rickpat12 08-10-2008, 12:11 PM When we were tlaking to Billy after the Davenport show...he said the open tape policy was still in effect. He came right out and said it...but as before, the Pumpkins don't really notify the venue, and sometimes the venue is just a douche bag I guess. But there is audio of Davenport and some, maybe all video.
redbull 08-10-2008, 12:33 PM this is the way taping has been at every SP2 show. We can't all be Frank Quinto. Get the fuck over it.
Sebastian 08-10-2008, 12:53 PM this is the way taping has been at every SP2 show. We can't all be Frank Quinto. Get the fuck over it.
Yeah, but it still is the band's fault. There's many other bands out there who are able to make sure taping is OK for everyone. I just don't understand why the Pumpkins can't just get it right...
Bullet1979 08-10-2008, 01:01 PM I agree. It's one thing to say the fans can record. It's another thing to make sure your fans can record.
MonteLDS 08-10-2008, 01:26 PM Okay, so this is the deal as i know it folks.
Talk to Mike before the show (he is the new geo) make sure he tells the venue before the show. The band shows up at about 3pm for soundchecks. Mike was at the hammond show at about 11am and talked to me before the show.
Rickpat12 08-10-2008, 01:33 PM Yeah but you still weren't able to tape Hammond right?
redbull 08-10-2008, 01:37 PM Yeah but you still weren't able to tape Hammond right?

Rickpat12 08-10-2008, 01:37 PM yeah, figured.
Talk to Mike before the show (he is the new geo)
What happened to the old Gio?
redbull 08-10-2008, 01:42 PM he's on tour with Ben Harper.
Diss N. Chanted 08-10-2008, 01:48 PM I was able to get my Ed R-09 recorder in easily at both venues but....
at davenport something happenned and I missed 1st 3 songs
and at hammond I was up close on Gingers side and durring US a security guy grabs me and pulls me to the barricade and says that I'm getting kicked out for taping well we argued back and forth that the band says it's ok and that he was head of security and keeped saying ask head of band security and I guess Mike heard us arguing and motinoned over to the guy and told him it was ok to tape. Then later during Set The Controls a different guy grabs me and drags me to the lobby where I went through the whole thing again and was allowed to go back and finish the show. I moved to Jeff side though.

seriously, when is the netphoria ninja squad going to raid that guy's stash?
I think the Netphoria Ninja Squad is too busy bickering about leadership of aforementioned Ninja Squad.
"I'm 'leeter!"
"No, I'm the 'leeter leader!"
"Me wantie 'leet!"
"Me me me!"
And so forth.
mickyshambles 08-10-2008, 04:22 PM i didn't even know there was a netphoria ninja squad.
redbull 08-10-2008, 04:27 PM Dead to thread
Wasabi 08-10-2008, 06:13 PM Why can I remember a movie wherein someone ransacks (sp?) the shit out of someone else's house and copies everything substantial, then replaces all the original items in the span of 4 hours? This needs to happen to Quinto, b0lly, and .... the list goes on.
I think among the ranks of 'phoria we've got the man-power and insanity to pull off such a feat.

That means they're good at their job.

Thanks for your effort. That's a nice machine you have. I'm looking forward to hearing your work.

I guess you have never been to Las Vegas. Or at least modern Vegas casinos. You might get questioned, but it's not that big of a deal.
Hypocaust 08-11-2008, 01:54 AM What is Quinto doing now?
He got traded to the Reds.
IWishIWasBlank 08-11-2008, 08:38 AM I once tried that though and ended up shagging the bloke
You should be glad it wasn't the other way around.
