I recently bought a Crate PA6FX with speakers off a guy for $160. He told me the effects were broken but that everything else worked perfectly. I just set up it up and I am talking into it through an SM57... It has this odd fuzzy quality to it that dissipates when I fuck with the volume or switch channels, but then slowly comes back the longer I leave the mixer be. So... any idea what this could be? Is it just that I am in a small space (basement) and it sounds weird down here? Or is this mixer shitty? It gets really feedbacky and screamy when I put the mic up to an acoustic guitar. The speakers are Crate PE10Ts... one seems to have the fuzz problem worse than the other but it is present in both. I have tried switching all the cables and such.

eh, sounds like the mixer's weird or maybe your speakers are fucked. but i reckon it's the mixer, might be one of the inputs

did you try a different microphone? or the microphone in a different input?

Update: I plugged both speakers into my guitar amp to test them out individually and other than a little bit of background fuzz from the amp which dissipates as I move the speakers away from it, they sound absolutely fine. I tried a different mic and all the inputs and the problem with the mixer itself persists. I guess I have to take it in and try to get some cash back from the seller.
