i'm a huge David Bowie and Beach Boys fan. but one thing that has always bothered me, particularly Berlin-era & Scary Monsters Bowie and post Pet Sounds Beach Boys, is what i consider an fade-out too early in the song.
i hate fade-outs most of the time to begin with. i'd rather hear a proper end to a song, but with a lot of the songs from the aforementioned eras the songs fade out while a guitar solo is STILL going (bowie) or the vocals are all of a sudden doing something different (beach boys).
i made this thread to see if anyone can think of other culprits of The Early Fade-Out/ or maybe some people see why it's a good choice and/or don't mind it, or even like it. or maybe some people will bitch about it with me.
i wanna hear where that guitar solo goes, man!

i think the fade-out should be banned completely. it's simply lazy. all you have to do is write a resolving chord. that's it. really.

The fade-out has always bothered me and off the top of my head the only fade-out I really think works is the one at the end of Beautiful.

Speaking of the Pumpkins, I like the fade out in Blank Page, but it seems to happen 5 or 6 seconds too early, making the last lyric on the entire album indecipherable.
You are a ghost of my indecision

What a perfect ending to a record, and they fade out over it!

another real bad one is, i think, Life During Wartime by Talking Heads.
when they released the Brick they included a bonus track that had Robert Fripp playing guitar on Life During Wartime and it didn't fade out. it was the same take, it just had some annoying lead guitar added throughout the whole song except for the end. so i got flacs of bother versions and made a non-Fripp no fade out version of Life During Wartime. i was so happy.

resolving chord if you're lazy. If you're badass, syncopated polymetric drum/bass breakdown over shredding herman li-esque guitar solo.

Slowly fading out.
