I just got into them. I bought their latest Baby 81 and really liked it. What is everyone's favorite album by them? What else would you recommend?

Everything. Start with Howl, then the s/t, then Take Them On. Howl is one of my favorite albums in recent years, though it is a bit of a departure from their other work.

baby 81 is outstanding.

one of my favorite rock albums from 07.

haven't really given any of their other records a chance yet though.

mutated bluesy rock'n'roll that's 2 cool 4 school.

older stuff is more garage-y.

they definitely have a pseudo atmospheric "dream pop" / "shoegazey" feel to them

kind of like every bad mid 90s band, think the verve or something

just really awful

Their most recent material is kind of bluesy rock mixed with psychedelia. Think of the White Stripes and early Oasis or The Verve.

There is more Jesus and Mary Chain influence present than any other band listed in this thread, more so on their first two albums, but at times, still very noticeable.

i listened to a northern soul like a month ago, and i was thoroughly bored throughout.

im halfway through howl, i liked the title track a lot but aside from that nothing's really grabbed me. not terrible, though, maybe its a grower. kinda repetitive at times. weight of the world just ended, really good. second half is starting off well.

first impression: howl, weight of the world, and sympathetic noose are the highlights of the album. its alright, i really didnt like the songs where there was much integration of a harmonica. at times it got a little repetitive, but maybe a band ill look more into. if they're more garage rock earlier on, i might prefer those albums.

i'd suggest listening to Urban Hymns. it's really their only album i like all the way through. That album (along with its slew of b-sides) is one of my favorites.

I just gave their first album a listen all the way through. It's amazing. They sound like early Dandy Warhols if they weren't so pop sounding. Very trippy and dreamy.

Key songs = Love Burns, White Palms, Rifles
