View Full Version : Jeff Buckley - Grace or Sketches?
grace is exquisite in its beauty and execution, but sketches, despite its demo-ish production and imo lack of stylistic cohesion in comparison to grace, features some of the best songs jeff ever did. sky is a landfill, new year's prayer, vancouver, you and i...shit's breathtakingly awesome.
and aren't these just some of the best fucking lyrics you've ever heard?:
Circle around the park
Joining hands in silence
And watch the evil black the sky
The storm has ripped the shelter
Of illusion from our brow
This power's no mystery to us now.
Leave your spirit genocide
The cancer you won't remove
We cast our funeral rose inside
And bury the need to prove
Our mutilation is to gain from the system
Ooh, turn your head away from the screen, oh people
It will tell you nothing more
Don't suck the milk of flaccid
Bill K. Public's empty promise
To the people that the public can ignore
This way of life is so devised
To snuff out the mind that moves
Moving with grace that men despise
And women have learned to lose
Throw off your shame or be a slave to the system
I see you take another drag
One more lost soul to raise your flag
The sky is a landfill
I see you take another drag
Let's see you take another drag
You like to dance to the rolling
Head of the adulteress
You sing in praise of suicide
We know you're useless
Like cops at the scene of the crime
With your steroids
And your feedbag
And your stable
And your trainer
Oh I got a mail bomb for you Mister Strong Arm...
Throw out the stones from all the cemetery homes
For the violence of a nation gone by
Or the politics of weakness
And the garbage dump of souls
That will now black the sky
Their yellow haze and crowds of eyes
Will plug up the mind that moves
Moving with grace that men despise
And women have learned to lose
We'll share our bodies
In disdain for the system
Oh, I see you take another drag
One nation bends to kiss the hag
The sky is a landfill
I see you take another drag
I see you take another drag
I have no fear of this machine!

new discussion: grace isn't "alternative rock", its "progressive adult contemporary"
Rockin' Cherub 07-20-2008, 05:10 PM it's neither progressive, contemporary nor very mature so i'll go with alternative rock
rockin' cherub has spoken.^
Rockin' Cherub 07-20-2008, 05:16 PM uh huh
tim would probably agree that jeff was better though
Rockin' Cherub 07-20-2008, 05:22 PM why would he?
he'd say it as consolation for jeff not being able to rock this hard in a brown sweater:

Rockin' Cherub 07-20-2008, 05:39 PM i think that's cooler than any song on grace
just cause its old and no one would agree with you
smashingjj 07-20-2008, 06:49 PM I'm not going to partake in this discussion, I'm too grown-up or that.
OK Jeff sucks.
smashingjj 07-20-2008, 06:52 PM Just to tease you James. I like Jeff.

aurel 07-21-2008, 09:29 AM Grace has dated really badly. Sketches has some great songs.
Kahlo 07-21-2008, 12:24 PM Grace has dated really badly. Sketches has some great songs.
this.
I can't listen to Grace anymore.
Starchildren 07-21-2008, 07:04 PM Gunshot Glitter is his greatest song. Can't believe they didn't ******* it on the US Sketches.
pale blue eyes 07-21-2008, 07:25 PM Grace is pretty but kind of same-y at points. I think I like Sketches more now because it seems to vary more.
redbreegull 07-22-2008, 12:25 AM I don't understand the concept of an album "dating"
redbull 07-22-2008, 05:53 AM I don't understand the concept of an album "dating"
ever heard of portishead
redbreegull 07-22-2008, 02:39 PM When someone says an album has "dated badly" does it mean that the record is too based in the time period in which it came out, thus making music that seems good at the time but is not "timelessly good"?
toase 02-18-2015, 06:54 PM how did I end up here?
