i will. i've seen them like, twice i think. no three times. that's right. for all 3 of their releases, too. opening for Trail of Dead in 2002, with Autolux in 2004, and a small set at an outdoor festival thing in 2006. so, it looks like i'll be continuing the every other year trend!

so yeah, i'll let ya know. (btw, it was the backing vocals dude who departed.)

ah, yes, you will have a blast, then. didn't know they were still playing bars, though. crazy.

i saw them in a small bar in st louis like 4 years ago or something and it was crazy - hot and sweaty and mat jumped up on the speaker system.
that was when my gf at the time and i road tripped to follow them around to like iowa city, the springfield, missouri, and st louis or something.

Wilco (8/10)
Conor Oberst (8/11)

I was kind of feeling that way but the alcohol helped. So many of their songs sound the same, I genuinely like a few of them but overall it really didn't turn me on much. The bass and drum playing was especially boring, nearly the same with every song they played.

I went to Thao with The Get Down Stay Down tonight at a place in Portland called the holocene (pronounced hollow scene). I'm not sure if I can recommend them, for one the show was really pretty short, I don't think they have a lot of material. Also the music did prove they have their own style, but it was pretty similar throughout. Thao was rocking out pretty hard though and was friendly.

The crowd was just fuckin' ridiculous though, 90% hipster kids who were offended at the idea of moving their bodies. I mean I don't move around that much, but they were intentionally standing a still as possible, fuck people like that.

How could one possibly stand still during "Bag of Hammers"? I mean, that song is catchy and bouncy as anything. I was gonna go see them next week but they are trumped by the PUMPKINS (this is not a complaint).

i saw foreigner yesterday

it was pretty hilarious. the crowd was pretty huge and they covered a whole lotta love. i considered leaving at that moment but i had to stay for hot blooded.

it was free, of course. jason bonham was drumming, which is the only draw it had for me. he had a little solo in the middle of it, during which some keyboardist played part of kashmir for 10 seconds. i was afraid they were going to cover that song too and i actually was hoping puff daddy would rush the stage instead.

all in all it was entertaining, the snarky comments i had with my friends was the best part of it.

sunset junction soon, nomo and thao with the get down stay down played back at school but im home for the week, so i missed out. kind of bummed but its not like im into either of them. though i plan on checking out the nomo cd.

Been to Sex Pistols a couple of days ago, amazing show - that is, if you were already expecting the band as they are now. Donno, probably Björk will follow on the 7th august, but I'm really looking forward to UK Decay and Theatre of Hate on October's Drop Dead Festival at Lisbon.

lol because you forgot your earplugs.

actually i wore earplugs the first two times i saw them and i've also seen them without. the 2003 tour really wasn't nearly as loud and i haven't worn earplugs to a mogwai show since and it hasn't bothered me... other than two particular shows -- but that was related to the size of the venue and where i ended up standing that i ended up getting blasted with more noise than i typically do.

yea sure thing. i really dig this band. i'm makign the drive up to beautiful madison WI just to see them, because i already have tix for Roots & methodman/redman the night before when they play metro. worked out nicely.

i've been fortunate enough to see them headline 4 out of the 5 times i have seen them. who they have been opening for?

the darkroom lolla aftershow in 2006 was probably the best one so far, followed by the metro midnight show in may of 06, then the rest. i would have dug in-the-round more, but the venue i saw them at sucked for that setup.

Yesterday I saw some local Portland bands at a house venue called Cloud City, used to be called Narnia. Radar Skinny, Big Spender, and one band name I forget, I think it was Randall something, but they said it was probably their last show. Good bands though, if anyone ever has a chance to see them, they're all pretty freewheeling and indie and rocking.

12/3/08: David Byrne

I would just like to mention that this was hands down one of the best shows I have seen this year and probably in my top ten overall. His voice sounded great, there were backup singers and dancers, and he played a bunch of Talking Heads songs. It was just visually pretty unique and I have never seen anything quite like it. I was going to make a thread but without pictures / video I really can't do it justice. I will just say it was pretty great and leave at that.

Also, in addition to Neil Young next Friday (12/12) I am now seeing Bon Iver and The Tallest Man on Earth on the following Monday (12/15). I am way more excited to see the opener but the price is so cheap I suppose I should not complain.

1218 Thermals

The Thermals are so much fun live. I don't know what configuration they are playing in now. The first time I saw them they came with a second guitarist who had a broken leg and looked to be in terrible pain all night. The second time I saw them it was just the three of them. And I heard they recently fired the drummer.

Tonight I am seeing Nada Surf.

not too sure, i've seen them for 4 times already, but all in the old/first album line-up, 3 piece.

wasn't "how to fight the lonliness" on the girl interrupted soundtrack?

haha, i loved that cd back in 2001. i played it constantly and, being the first time i had heard of wilco, i thought they were from the 70's, since pretty much all the rest of the songs were from that time period.

I remember I bought tickets to see the black keys a couple years ago and I couldn't make it. Ever since then, I lost interest.

Ben Folds always puts on a good show...but I don't feel like paying $40 US per ticket, $8 dollars for toll, gas to drive out to Ann Arbor and parking.
