don't understand why they're so popular, or why they're so revered or canonised

obviously goths like the cure because of the aesthetic, but why are they more popular than bauhaus?

Kahlo
07-07-2008, 07:37 AM
because they have more pop sounding single material. Why is that so hard to understand?

Thaniel Buckner
07-07-2008, 07:39 AM
well, just about any band that had a music video in the eighties for starters.

but i can't really of think of anything else though.

I like the big singles for the most part.

I don't get why The Cure are SO huge. I think they are a good band and deserve recognition, but the problem is that many great bands seem to have fallen on the wayside under some of these giants (Smiths are pretty big to). I would put forward Nirvana to, they are simply fucking huge. It's all in the hooks I guess, plus the age appeal, the younger youth circuits they can get into the better in the long run. I guess analysing this question you could put forth all the asinine pop shit that gets mass appeal, all that rap rnb stuff flooding the music industry for the last few years. Once it's indicative of culture the music becomes a flagstone for people to form to.

Animal Collective isn't big except in certain internet communities, plus I think big implies a band who does a large amount of touring.

Radiohead

Muse
Tool / APC
The Cure

Of course I'd ******* any popular rap, pop, country, etc, but that'd be laborious.

but...i don't really get why the critics love white stripes so fucking much. they're alright, but come on, they're not that great. i think the thing w/ radiohead was they started doing their best stuff right when everyone else stopped and rock music took a slide. ppl like to pick up on trends and blow the importance of sth out of proportion, so it turned into this omg rh is god crap. don't get me wrong, they're really good and stuff.. blahblah
