As previously reported, The Smashing Pumpkins will be heading out on the road in the United States for a few weeks this August.

The last tour of the U.S. by the band consisted of mostly larger venues. This tour will prominently be booked in smaller venues across the country. Cities that they have not played since reforming will be on the route. Smaller venues means less tickets, and tickets will most likely go very quickly. Keep your eyes peeled!

Dates and cities are still forthcoming but will be revealed ANY MINUTE.

***Correction: These shows should not be considered part of the 20th anniversary shows that will be occurring later this year.

I hope the tickets are easily obtainable to the fans. Higher prices might help, as we have already said many times, but I still trust the band in using the SP page to give priority to us.

yeah, i'm a little worried about how difficult it'll be to get tickets. Though I've spent too much money on guitars this year to afford airfare anywhere, so unless they play within a reasonable driving distance to me, I won't be able to go anyway :(

MonteLDS

yeah, i'm a little worried about how difficult it'll be to get tickets.

i don't think getting ticket to a show or two will be that hard at what i am expecting to be $100+ ticket prices :erm:

but if they are for 3 hr shows it be pretty worth it imo

the residency tickets sold pretty fast in SF @ $25

i wonder what SP considers "small"

4000? 1200? (Fillmore) 962? (Orange Peel)

skipgo
07-03-2008, 10:48 AM
well, i guess we'll find out pretty soon just how fast they sell out. I'd gladly pay $100+ as long as I can get to the show. I somehow doubt that'll happen though; are these the shows that are supposed to be in L.A., Chicago, and N.Y.? or is that the era shows?

Caine Walker
07-03-2008, 10:49 AM

MonteLDS

I dont think its the era shows at all. I think they are just visiting the cities they missed through the first tour so I guess it could be considered part of the Zeigeist tour perhaps.

MonteLDS
07-03-2008, 11:23 AM
why would they visit cities they missed and just do them in "small" clubs?

a small club show isn't what i would consider a "proper" show. Because it would exclude a lot of casual fans.

given that it's going to be a small venue (and Billy has mentioned playing for the hardcore fans before), I would suspect more rarities and without a doubt, new material.

We're supposed to get a new single this fall, so I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to road test some new material.

SP.com previously posted that the 20th anniversary shows would be late August and September. Are they still on for September??

Also, Billy has specifically mentioned Chicago, NYC, and LA, but up until now I've assumed those were the anniversary shows. Why would they wait over a year to play Chicago, then do a "regular show" there in August, only to return in September for the anniversary show? It's anti-climactic. So, perhaps no Chicago in August.

RockLobster
07-04-2008, 05:49 PM
here is the scoop.

There are pre-sale tickets but you need to have a password to access the page to get them. The maximum number of tickets you can purchase is two and you can only use the password once so, there is no sharing. To obtain a password for pre-sale tickets click on the official bands website, log on and enter the skill testing question. Once you have e-mailed in your answer you will be given a password in your e-mail for pre-sale tickets.

I don't know how recent this is, but the header graphic on the official Pumpkins site has changed. I don't remember it being like this yesterday. The words "Smashing Pumpkins" are sinking into the ocean, and so is the statue. But faintly in the black water behind the sunken statue, you can see "The Smashing Pumpkins". What gives? Is this related to the new Gish tour and Gish box set announcement? The "THE" is back!? Gish had just "Smashing Pumpkins" on the cover, so maybe this is the beginning of an entirely new mystery.

I was listening to the radio today and the DJ said that the only way to get tickets is to buy copies of Zeitgeist or American Gothic and some contain golden tickets. Then you have to send the band a telegram with your name and number, and Billy calls and asks you a few questions to determine if you are enough of a true fan to be allowed into the shows. Then he reviews your answers with Jimmy and then they deliver your tickets to you personally during their hot air balloon trip around the world. Well, if they approve of you anyway. It may take a while though on account of the hot air balloon and all, but it will totally be worth it. Sort of like that Metro DVD was to those people who received a copy when they were put in some mail orders for Cubs or Cheap Trick merchandise. Those lucky sons of bitches.

"The Smashing Pumpkins" sank, the Statue of Liberty is sinking, the "Beta Version" is falling into the ocean, and "Smashing Pumpkins" is floating. So they're back to Gish, and anything else that you can take from that is probably reading too much into it.

I can respect what you're saying, to a point. I do have to disclaim it a little, though, by pointing out there is a difference between having fun and being a dick (not saying that you were being one, just saying there is a line).... Kinda like that whole "you can't say whatever you want just because you say 'with all do respect.'"

But yeah, I apologize for acting somewhat hypersensitive about the whole thing. The truth is I just spent around $900 for a new hi-def video camera that I purchased with two things in mind: footage of my upcoming cruise, and recording whichever Gish show I could go to. Hopefully you can see how frustrated I was when I considered there could be a hair of truth to anything that was being said.

From the official site:

Pumpkins reveal details for upcoming tours, announce plans to play New York, Los Angeles and Chicago for 20th anniversary tour in November
Smashingpumpkins.com has some details regarding the upcoming touring plans for the band.

As stated previously, the band will be heading out into the United States for the first time in 2008 during August. This tour will be for fun and will consist of unique sets and songs. Expect this tour to visit mostly smaller-sized venues.

Whereas the August dates will be at smaller venues, the November 20th Anniversary shows will be at large venues. We can confirm the band will be playing in New York, Chicago, L.A. as well as additional cities that have yet to be announced. These shows will focus on the band's history, legacy, and accomplishments over their career.

The Gish era tour will be moved to early 2009 to make way for the 20th Anniversary shows this November. Discussions are still taking place regarding which cities will be played.

Billy Corgan had this to say about the current tour line-up for 2008:

"The August tour is going to be a blast... Expect a very loud and raucous show from us...and we are very, very happy to know we will finally be playing our own shows come November in New York, L.A., and Chicago... The 20th Anniversary shows will be magical... We are already working on lots of surprises"

Thanks to everyone that waited patiently for news over the weekend. Dates will start being announced shortly so stay tuned!
