View Full Version : Jeffrey Lewis vs Bonnie 'Prince' Billy
TheDeuce 06-30-2008, 06:41 PM i've seen a lot of mentions of Bonnie 'Prince' Billy (aka Will Oldman) mentioned lately. i've never listened to Will Oldman, but i really like Jeffrey Lewis and i was wondering if any of you had seen/heard this song before?

TheDeuce 06-30-2008, 06:44 PM i'd also like to add that his song "The History of Punk On New York's Lower East Side, 1950-1975"

redbull 06-30-2008, 07:07 PM Jeffrey Lewis gets really, really, REALLY old after about a month. But that song is pretty decent. History of punk encapsulates everything wrong with hipsters into a convenient 9 minutes. But, I'm not sure if its intentional. JEff is a nice guy though, I did sound for him once.

Shapan 07-01-2008, 12:41 AM jeffrey's comics are awesome. he did a show for our station a couple of months back with phil elverum and his show was great. some really cool tunes, though im not very into him. he's also an awesome guy, talked to any fans afterwards, signed autographs and drew pictures for people. phil was also really nice.
he's so very different from bonnie prince billy. jeffrey lewis likes to do long drawn out stories, they go with his comics much better than without them. during the show he played a couple of songs with comics he drew for them, made the songs a lot more interesting. his music is generally pretty repetitive and he plays sparse songs along with bouncy ones. bonnie prince billy is like a traditional alternative folk singer/songwriter.
I'm Hardcore 07-01-2008, 12:54 AM yeah why the hell are you comparing these guys
Nothing/everything 07-01-2008, 03:22 AM oldham's output has been consistently great throughout the years, except maybe the tortoise thing. Great artist, much underappreciated imho
TuralyonW3 07-01-2008, 03:39 AM hmmm, no lewis does nothing for me
I'm Hardcore 07-01-2008, 03:48 AM wannabe Jello Biafra

I saw Mr. Oldham live on Sunday. He played mostly stuff from the new album. Kinda disappointing (to me). Hey, at least I got to shake his hand ;)

I wouldn't say he's under-appreciated critically at all.
