Well considering there's a lot of ballet, jazz AND belly dance infused with Michelle's burlesque...I'd say it's a tough call. It depends if the stripper has had any formal dance training or not, if not...I'd say I definitely have the advantage there. We don't take off our clothes in class...

If you want to call someone who takes off their clothes for an audience a stripper, then yes I'm training to be a stripper. If you want to call someone who does lap dances a stripper, then I'm not training to be a stripper.

It's not a prerequisite for a gentleman's club to have poles. In fact (disclaimer: I've probably been to only three or four ever) I don't think most of the ones I've been to had poles.

I suppose it's all about the imagery "stripper" conjures. There's a big difference between what we're learning to do and what girls do down at the Admiral...you know what I mean?

We (generally, I can't speak for every dancer out there) don't do lap dances, we don't take tips, we don't do bachelor parties, don't pole dance, don't go completely nude. There's also a theatrical element to this that isn't present in typical club stripping, not to mention the satirical and sometimes political aspect of it as well.

I always say...think: vaudeville.

FYI - Just clearing up any confusion...I am NOT planning on ever doing this as a performance, I'm not that confident yet. However, it's an awesome tool for belly dance - not only to be more comfortable in my own skin but also to add the facial expressions and comfortable, sexy attitude to my dance. What kind of dance? I really only know of belly dance videos, I know Michelle L'amour has some videos of her burlesque stuff but I haven't seen them.

I'd also suggest checking out FitTV, they have lots of stuff on there that might give you more of an idea of what you'd be looking for in a video.

I paid $30 for 2 week trial of unlimited classes, which for me was 6 classes - so about $5 a class.

The regular session costs about $12.50 per class but I won't start till August because I'm in the middle of a TRIBAL FUSION choreography right now.
