I'm shamelessly promoting my first short-film. It's so shameless, I even decided to post it here on a site I have posted in for some time.

Not at the moment. I'm going to start going to school for theater education soon though.

lighting is my main concern here.. everything looks like crap at the start. I know lights can be expensive, but some good soft light would make it much easier to watch

I do LOVE the good straight cuts in the video from scene to scene.

the camera goes out of and in focus when the guy leaves the card table while on the phone

the card players scene thing really needs some serious audio adjustment. the background music was WAY too high. also when he is outside talking by the baseball field. all that wind was hard.

the script isn't too bad. but the story is kind of slow...

the amount of talent (actors / actress) that you had in the film was awesome.

keep it up, and hope things get better!

Thanks for the feedback Monte, that's just what I needed. I've been noted on the sound issue before (I use a laptop, the audio can be deceiving even with headphones) and I'll look into lighting. This being my first film, constructive criticism works for the best... hopefully.

A friend of mine was telling me the other day that the lighting is probably because I was trying to set the levels on the camcorder itself instead of messing with the exposure during post-production.

was this filmed in 1987 or just using technology and equipment from 1987

MonteLDS

i don't think that's a fair assessment. the issue is lighting. along with poor audio.

otherwise this is a pretty typical home made project.

I had to change the video format several times throughout production for it to work properly. My HDD camcorder sucks because the video format used on its drive isn't compatible with my video editing software. Then we take lighting into consideration, sound issues, and the fact it's a mediocre camcorder - and there you have it... 1987. I'd like to get some 35mm film, but you know... it's expensive as hell... so I'll stick with 1987 for the time being.

Realistically, that's about how long it would take most people to do that. It just seems like it takes a long time because you are watching someone else have to do it. It'd feel a little rushed if he sped in there, grabbed his shit, and ran in the apartment. He's not running from anyone, and thus, wouldn't fit in.

Actually I'd say my biggest problem with it, production wise (aside from poor acting, which is expected) would be the editing. Almost every scene involves a few out of place jump cuts.

I was the only one in it with any acting experience, so I'm not going to argue with you on the acting portion. As for the out-of-place jump cuts, do you have any examples? It'll help me on later projects.
