in a nutshell:

its a sim game (like simcity, simtower, the sims, etc) but with a unique twist. basically, you guide a new species of animal (designed entirely by you) through every stage of evolution, from single-celled organisms to galactic overlords and every step in between. there has been a lot of buzz around the game the last year or two in various nerd circles, but the demo has just been released which allows you to design your species, hence this thread.

i've never really been too much of a fan of the "sim" genre, but this is without a doubt one of the most (if not the most) ambitious concepts ever attempted in gaming, and i'm pretty curious to see whether or not they pull it off.

update: I am still trying to get this game to work. I don't think it likes my graphics card even though it is more than adequate for the minimum specs. I might not have the most recent driver but gateway hasnt issued a new update since some time in 2007 and nvidia doesnt provide updates as each laptop manufacturer has different specs

I dont have an hp laptop but I downloaded these drivers (the forceware that nvidia puts out I think) and it works now!

screw gateway for not updating drivers. i think I just invalidated my warranty (if my computer broke now I would use it as a nice excuse to buy a new sweeeet ass one)

I might purchase it, but I would HIGHLY recommend that anyone else who purchases it do it from a store (so you do it from a CD) because there have been a LOT of issues with the EA Download Manager... mainly that a lot of people have had to turn it off or uninstall it to get Spore to even run.

Also you have to update Vista to the new service pack (which for some reason the Windows Update Manager doesn't do automatically)

Oh, and in here http://www.driverheaven.net/nvmodtool.php there is also a very practical tool to mod officel desktop drivers so they'll work on nv laptops. The other site I gave can be quite confusing.

There aren't better or worse drivers, only the ones which work or not for what you intend :).

Laptop companies are slow to update drivers because they need to certify and pay for them everytime they are distributed, as they have all support responsibility because gpus aren't mounted on reference boards as with desktop parts.

years and years ago, the first time i ever got on the internet @ take your kid to work day, i played this game on the internet where you design a creature and i think set it loose to evolve. i always wanted to play it again but never got the chance. now it would be lame, of course
