the band I'm recording heard me listening to zeitgeist while I was reading the 'year later' thread. they heard the first solo and went 'woah we want THAT tone for such and such song' and went to bed. i spent a couple hours tonight trying different amps and guitars and effects and I think I have something fairly close (close enough to work at least). tell me what should be different. we havent tracked any of the song yet but they want to build around this tone. we'll see where it ends up

lead git: SG classic with P90s (they want to record the song with this guitar) -> vox wah -> tube screamer -> digital delay -> JCM 800 -> marshall cab. mic was a u87


left and right rhythms are my strat with lace sensors -> uberschall. left channel has u87 on cabinet, right channel has 421.

This really did make me LOL. For those of you less savvy about recording gear, the large diaphragm Neumann mic being "thrown" retails for about $3000.

nope- only the u87. dynamics color the sound a lot. if i want to capture the natural sound of the cabinet or speaker as-is i will throw up a u87 or r-122.

the 421 is ony favorite dynamic mic on guitar cabinets. its deeper sounding than a (piece of shit)57 and is a little more musical. them being deeper helps push them back in a mix and compete less with a main instrument in the mix
