do you think it would have done well on the charts? Better than The Everlasting Gaze? What if Cash Car Star had been included on Machina and released as a single and was promoted the way the Everlasting Gaze was promoted? What kind of reception do you think it would have gotten?

Nobody understands when Billy is being ironic or what he's going for when he is. Would probably fail for the same reasons HMM would if it were a single.

dross would have fared better than cash car star.

I think its my second favorite song to come out of the Machina sessions. Stand Inside Your Love is my favorite. It's intense and catchy and like someone else said it has brilliant drumming.

I don't think releasing Cash Car Star as a single for Machina would have changed much. The horse had left the barn by that time. But I do think that if it had been the first single for Adore, then things would have been much different/better.

I agree with this.

I thought it was crap when I first heard the Halloween performance. I don't think it's crap now, but I can't say it ever really grew on me. I think it would have made a terrible single. I'm not sure any of the songs from that era could have changed much as to how the band was received at that time. . . though maybe Dross.

I think it's pretty much a throwaway tune.

I think a better question is... Would Adore have been a greater commercial success if LMGTWTY and Cash Car Star had been on it?

cash car star was a great idea but it did suffer from some cheesy arrangements. needed a phat brian may solo.

dross would have been a HORRIBLE single. All sludgy and not radio friendly at all. If Everlasting Gaze and SIYL couldn't get the job done nothing in that set could have... although Cash Car Star could have been interesting considering the pop-punk state of radio affairs (had it a different arrangement like TB said. I think it could have benefitted from a patented SP slowdown with maybe some soft singing of more obscure/artsy lyrics a la Superchrist/Geek U.S.A./Tarantula. OR an exclamation point Jimmy drum breakdown.

If some of the Machina songs had been replaced with Machina II songs the album would be solid. I wish they had done that and then just called it a career without reforming and dragging the band through the mud once again.

I still say it would've been better if he went from MCIS to Machina I/II.

Cash Car Star on Adore makes no fucking sense at all.

I'd say this is true for most of MII. As much as people say that Dross and Cash Car Star "bring the rock" they're just not good songs...

Home is a decent song, Cash Car/Dross are terrible forced attempts to 'rawk'.

As far as Machina is concerned, nothing could have helped that album. I remember watching mtv and seeing Everlasting Gaze being outvoted CONVINCINGLY by Bloodhound Gang's "Discovery Channel" song on TRL or some shit like that. Even that douche Carson Daly was pleading for the "Alt Legends" to get some more votes. It was sad to watch.
