i saw it at best buy the other day. there is also a one disc version, a vinyl version (almost bought it), and a dvd collection. thought it was kinda curious - didn't think they were the "greatest hits" kinda guys.

They're not, but their former record label wanted to cash in. They also released all of their albums in a box set.

it's like people only do things because they get paid...and thats just really sad.

The band is not happy about this greatest hits package.

lets talk about the new Notwist album instead

yeah the band doesnt support the box set or this

the tracklisting actually isnt too shabby. every song on there is pretty noteworthy. there are some songs they're missing like motion picture soundtrack, but it would be lacking something or the other regardless.

" Speaking to The Word about the new collection's release, Yorke said: 'We haven't really had any hits so what exactly is the purpose?' "

Yeah, don't forget Capitol's little thumb drive stunt:

Those guys are out to cash in. The compilation reminds me of Pearl Jam's "Rear View Mirror" two disc set in the fact that it's not a greatest hits by any means. It's moreso an anthology. The tracklist is pretty cool, but I have no need for anything on there.

The DVD on the other hand... they got me there. I've never seen like half of these things before. Kinda excited. In case you aren't aware of the DVD/contents:

I won't buy the cd, but the tracklisting is pretty awesome. I guess the DVD will be my weakness... ugh. Like the Amazon review said, "... but be bitter."

I know: the band aren't into it, and Radiohead are really an album band. However this has been pretty handy in me familiarising myself with the non-Kid A material since my little epiphane the other day.

haven't you been insisting that Radiohead is garbage for the last 5 years?

I bought the music video DVD, but that's it. There's no rational reason for me to buy the CDs. Maybe if they had thrown in some extras, like live tracks or b-sides...kinda hard to do that though if the band doesn't back the thing.

The DVD essentially makes 7 Television Commercials worthless.

Top 10 most glaring exclusions from the track listing (in no particular order):

1. Stop Whispering
2. Blow Out
3. Motion Picture Soundtrack
4. Cuttooth
5. Maquiladora
6. Morning Bell
7. Like Spinning Plates (I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings version)
8. Myxamatosis
9. A Wolf at the Door
10. Where I End And You Begin

For the most part though, the CDs are a good Radiohead primer for people who are starting to get into the band or whatever.

stop whispering?

seriously?

stop whispering?

seriously?

Uh, why wouldn't I be? I mean, it's not their greatest song, but it's definitely one of the three best songs off of Pablo Honey IMO.

Shapan
06-09-2008, 08:03 PM
uh

yeah ill just say no

the three songs on there are better than stop whispering. so is ripcord and blow out. stop whispering is like a boring U2 song.

This may make me many enemies among Radiohead fans, but I've never been a fan of Anyone Can Play Guitar. I mean, I don't HATE it, but it's probably not even in my top 30 favorite Radiohead songs. I can't argue with you about Ripcord, Blow Out and You though.

the chorus is pretty bad but i love the verses. kind of like a precursor to bones.

Top 5 most overrated Radiohead songs (this list is in order):

1. Anyone Can Play Guitar
2. Go To Sleep
3. There There
4. Creep
5. Knives Out

i didn't know anyone liked Anyone Can Play Guitar. the only songs I can stand to listen to from PH are You and Creep, and not very often at that.

Shapan

list list list

creep isnt overrated anymore, for years that song has made every other radiohead fan's most overrated radiohead song list that i think calling it that is a bit useless now.

i still find a lot of charm in that song, and i dont listen to it often enough to be sick of it. the interlude before the last verse is still fucking killer, i dont give a fuck what anyone says.

feels like preferences for songs change a lot from fan to fan, but go to sleep does get its fair share of hype.

you has one of my favorite thom screams in it, its a favorite of mine

i love stop whispering

anyone can play guitar is a nice feelgood track ("feelgood") but the whole WANNABEWANNABEWANNABEJIMMORRISSONNNN bit always made me cringe. back in the day i guess that's what passed for witty lyrics though.

Thinking About You is also criminally underrated, really poignant

I agree, but the whole "...but I'm playing with myself..." lyric is at least as cringe-worthy as the Jim Morrison thing in ACPG. That's practically a Blink-182 line. :erm:

Prove Yourself and I Can't are the best songs on Pablo Honey.
