....not what I expected. It's okay, but I was hoping for a return to Parachutes form from the reviews. It's actually just like the previous couple of albums with a strange beat added.

You can hear this on the album version of Lost the best. I like the acoustic version way more. What do you guys think?

first time through, it's pretty mediocre. They're obviously trying to be a little different, but I'm not sure they have the musical chops to pull it off, and Chris Martin (is that his name?) sounds kinda boring.

usually I think they're pretty vanilla but I like their singles anyway; this album nothing is really grabbing me.

but the album version of lost is better.

does anyone remember when they said in an interview that they had written a song that 'everyone should hear before they die'... i think it was alluded to that it was just as good as 'Bittersweet Symphony'...what song were they talking about?

Did Chris Martin happen to be wearing large blue sunglasses at the time he said this

I don't think anybody should say anything like that about their own music...yikes.

42 is pretty good.. i hate that they want to rock out so much because parachutes was so good at what it was going for, if they just stayed simple they'd sound so much better. they're a progressive band, they need to stick to what works. they're not a band that will change anything, i dont know why the mainstream media hype them up so much.

im gonna listen to it a couple more times, im reviewing it for our newspaper.

and yeah chris martin sounds like a fucking moron whenever he talks about his own music.

the vocals are really uninspiring and so far i find Lost and Cemetaries pretty dull

but otherwise i've gotta say i'm really enjoying this. some really cool arrangements and overall the vibe is really warm and uplifting in a manner that reminds me sometimes of both Grace and Vespertine, though perhaps i should know better than to say that. i like the ethnic instrumental passages too like on Yes.

jon buxton is a really underrated guitar player

the song viva la vida is pretty breathtaking but just feels like its constantly building up to something rather than arriving

i guess there's nothing wrong with that but i keep expecting some affirming final progression

i think he's pretty creative. he uses some interesting tunings, writes some cool riffs...does some good things tone-wise...he's subtle. parachutes, yellow, daylight, god put a smile on your face, beautiful world, violet hill, shiver...all great. his guitar playing imo is the only legitimately "alternative" aspect of coldplay's music. he's good.

Someone should smack the shit out of Chris Martin for the unadulterated wankery that is Viva la Vida.

i just listened to this. lost is great, and the title track. that's about it. i think that makes it my favorite coldplay album.

I'm a closet coldplay fan and this is easily their worst album. A lot of really weak tracks on this album.

man, i just can't imagine anyone liking this more than X&Y. there were a lot of undeniably strong catchy songs on that, imo. nothing on viva grabbed my attention for even a minute, just completely boring. they are (were?) a great pop band and they should stick to their strengths.

this album is coldplay grown up -- screw those who think they should stick to their 'pop' roots. this is a promising step toward more good material from them.

easily the best album they've put out.

Can't say I like Coldplay, the song Yellow, and music video forever put me off them. I also find Chris Martins voice highly boring. Doubt i'll be giving this album a listen,

I do not know or care much about this album but Chris Martin looks like a total ass on the front of Rolling Stone. Like a pirate with a flair for bright colored and unnecessary accessories. Or, sort of like Bono but without the stupid looking sunglasses.

I'm not suprised some tracks - such as 'Lovers in Japan' sound like Joshua tree cast offs.
