They seem so interrelated. What are some lyrics and quotes from the band reguarding feelings teenagers might have? Alienation? Not belonging? Wanting to belong? Not knowing who one is?

"we won't belong" or "we won't be long"? Let's discuss.

None of those. Are you dumb or something?

I'm a teenager, and I don't feel any of those things. Ever. I think you need to stop being so close-minded about youth. It really offends me.

The Pumpkins were of course a huge part of my adolescence, but--that said--I never did exactly identify with the lyrics so much as whatever incredibly expressive landscape the music itself communicated. (Though I do know all the lyrics, so I can sing along properly!) For me, the lyrics were always kind of a secondary consideration that complimented the song. I always thought songs like Why Am I So Tired and Bullet Train to Osaka kicked ass. (The first band I truly loved as a kid was the Ventures, so...that tells you something of where I'm coming from.) Although the lyrics aren't all necessarily personally meaningful to me, I know that a lot of the lyrics are actually very meaningful to Billy himself...so I often listen to and appreciate the content on the basis of how it reflects his own life story. I appreciate them from that point of view.

exactly the same here. vocal melody and accompaniment always meant way more than anything that was being said.

If Billy's novel-in-the-works is about adolescence we can merge your two threads!

Ebert and Roeper give it two thumbs up. "Instant Classic."

I remember this. I must be old as well. But at least I'm not as old as you.
