First details about recording with 'the Smashing Pumpkins - Nov 2007 (http://www.mansonusa.com/headlines/fullnews.php?id=537)
Are you already thinking about making a new album?
MM: Yes, I want to begin working on a new album in January or February [2008]. I’ve already written some ideas for songs. After my Greatest Hits album came out I took a long break from music because it was a period where I was not sure who I wanted to be. I left music for a while but that’s not an error I want to repeat in the future.
It is rumoured that you could collaborate with Kerry King on that album?
MM: I’ve become very good friends with Kerry King recently, I’ve had contact with the Smashing Pumpkins and I have also collaborated with Nick Zinner on a remix so it’s a definite possibility that they might contribute to this record.
At the time the rumour mill went into overdrive with many fans believing that Manson and Corgan had put their past differences aside. However in a new article on the Kerrang! site, it has been revealed that it is James Iha who will be appearing on his upcoming release, and from the report it sounds like something special.
Taken from Kerrang! article:
The Double M has also revealed that Slayer guitar god Kerry King and The Smashing Pumpkins’ James Iha will be making guest appearances on the record.
The new Marilyn Manson record will also feature the return of Manson’s long time co-contributor Twiggy Ramirez (Jeordie White) who had been playing in Nine Inch Nails for the past few years and before that was a member of A Perfect Circle along with James Iha.

The singer, who is clearly reeling after the commercial and critical failure that was 2007's Eat Me, Drink Me, says tracks for his eponymous band's seventh studio album are "very ruthless, very heavy, and very violent."

So what happened with Eat Me, Drink Me? Bad lyrics? Bad music? Lack of inspiration? I don't keep up with MM. It's hard to explain to my coworkers that it's an act, like Alice Cooper. Then they make comments about men being wrong when they dress in drag and take fake womens' names. I'm pretty sure I work with/for the KKK, though I'm certainly not a member.

pretty much all of the above.
the album sounds like MM was trying to force his music to fit in more with my chemical romance and all that goth/glam drivel, especially the single heart-shaped glasses. in some ways it ended up sounding more like MM copycats than MM himself. almost every song on that album has the same middle of the road tempo and goes no where, which makes the album feel lifeless. no rockers or signs of intensity to be found anywhere. no memorable songs.
and this is coming from someone who likes a lot of the mid-tempo songs on antichrist or mechanical animals.

Yeah, I pretty much agree, except that the second half was fun. Not anything meaningful in there though.
Oh, and IWishIWasBlank, it's not an act. respect him or not, Manson wears his makeup to bed and 24/7. His mom & dad call him Manson. He's different from Alice in those respects. Although I'm a fan, I'm not rushing to his defense here, just saying. Perhaps you and other people tell yourself that it's not sincere so you don't feel threatened by the freakish antics of an eccentric band. No offense to you man, but your friends are homophobic. There's very few things that can make a man gay, and if MM were, it wouldn't matter. Tell your buddies how he blew Twiggy out of boredom once, then proceeded to fuck Jemma Jameson, Rose McGowan, Dita Von Teese, and...that new flake ;)

:erm:
Strange. I saw Ladytron on Friday and their touring drummer looked just like James, bleach blonde hair, but that he'd put on a quite a bit of weight.
I had to stare at him for a bit wondering if it could be possible, as James has worked with them before, but what would he be doing on drums??? He even acted like James, each time he hit something he got that James cringe look on his face as if to say "This music is too loud"
Was introduced in the end as Keith York I think.

I don't really think at this point Manson is going to be able to produce any music that is going to come close to his trilogy in terms of artistic merit.
I just imagine alot more painfully contrived, riff heavy songs with mildly entertaining lyrics.
Other than producing 'art' and mansinthe, what else can he do with his life I suppose?

* Marilyn Manson – vocals, producer
* Twiggy Ramirez – guitars, bass
* Kerry King – guitars
* James Iha – drums
that would be an interesting live band.

Hey now, I never called them my friends. They're coworkers. And I'm pretty sure it's still an act. It's just that he's in it to win it more than his counterparts. He can get people to believe wild stories because they want to believe wild stories from a guy who wears makeup to bed... whose parents call him by his stage name (most likely because he's a brazillionaire (ask Mr. Bush for the exact number on this one) and bought his parents multiple houses by now...) and dates one of the most famous porn stars in the world.
He's got to have some good stories, and if he can get you to bite on a few that aren't completely true, then he's gotten you. He wins. Exactly what he wants to do. Win. I'm not a huge fan of his music, but I'm a big fan of what he does, how he does it, and to the extent that he does it. You're not going to find him without makeup because he's got too much interest in his image. Without it, he's just another hard rock/metal band with some anti-Christian shocker songs.

So what happened with Eat Me, Drink Me? Bad lyrics? Bad music? Lack of inspiration? I don't keep up with MM.
'What happened was that Jerdie White (who is now back) left the band to join Nine Inch Nails & A Perfect Circle. And that guy was the main songwriter of Marilyn Manson (not Manson himself like many people would assume, he basically just writes the lyrics). Everything that MM put out after Jeordie had left the band really sucked.
pretty much all of the above.

Read the credits for the songs you like. I'd bet that 90% of 'em were written by Mr. White.

I agree with the general consensus on EMDM....but GA was catchy and fun, with some great rock 'n roll. Never got the hate, despite the stylistic change and obvious need for Jeordie White.
As stated, he is/was/is the backbone of that band, and is the sole reason the next album is worth anticipating. Those two guys are like peanut butter and jam.

jimmy wouldn't be such a bad idea either. i'd be more surprised if that were true though, for obvious reasons. i'd think jc would be doing another jcc record if he ever had some time off sp. not that he couldn't record the drum tracks for the whole manson album in like a day

i predict that in five or six years people will be saying that Eat Me Drink Me is one of the best Manson records. Most of Manson's fans didn't like it because the lyrics were not as obvious as on previous records. Although, what i have heard in interviews has convinced me that it would be great if he continued in this direction for a couple more albums and the released a book as he did previously because this album seems to be much darker than people think.
