Awfull shite peddlers RHCP have decided to take at least a year off from making music. Hopefully they will make it a bit longer to give Anthony time to come up with more words that rhyme with 'California'
http://nme.com/news/red-hot-chili-peppers/36802
Red Hot Chili Peppers have disbanded for at least a year.
Singer Anthony Kiedis has revealed that the band members will step away from music to concentrate on their individual lives.
The singer told Rolling Stone that the band have decided to pause for 12 months after becoming exhausted with their hectic schedule.
The star went on to explain that he will spend more time with his family, while bassist Flea and guitarist John Frusciante are set to work on individual musical projects.
"We're disbanded for the moment," he said. "We took a very long time to make the 'Stadium Arcadium' record (released in 2006). It was a grueling, long haul and it followed two other very long hauls, 'Californication' (1999) and 'By the Way' (2002).
"So we didn't really stop until the tour ended last year. We were all emotionally and mentally zapped at the end of that run. The discussion was, 'Let's not do anything Red Hot Chili Peppers-related for a minimum of one year, and just live and breathe and eat and learn new things.'"
He added: "I'm just home, hanging out with this really cool little kid, learning how to surf. But I'm starting to get just a little bit of a tingle that it would be nice to start thinking about songs and pieces of music. But just pieces."

I don't really get all the hate for this band, other than the fact that Kiedis seems to be a dick. It's not that bad. I get not liking it because it has gotten boring and trite at this point, but they didn't steal anyone else's sound, they weren't put together by a record company, it's not grating or totally unpleasant to hear. And through their career they have put out some solid material. I have to agree with Mablak, that is seems like snobbery that people dislike them so much.

I wonder why there isn't the same level of hatred for the foo fighters, they're considerably worse than RHCP, and everything they make now is cringe-inducingly boring and expected. Haha, I actually like both those bands a lot more than RHCP, but they both suffer from the exact same thing RHCP does... they have no idea how to change or evolve and it gets really old really fast. I've not seen the Chili Peppers live, but I can attest to the fact that the Foos and Interpol put on really good live shows.

everything from californication on has been watered-down radio friendly bullshit. and having a double album of shit like this was just plain intolerable. bring back the days of Mother's Milk, BSSM, etc. and I think they could really be onto something again. We need some Magic Johnson up in here! the fact that the oldest stuff they'll play now-a-days is "give it away" and "under the bridge" is pretty sad...but i guess thats probably fueled by the audience who considers californication "the old shit".
maybe taking a break is just what they need, to help them get back to their roots. though i've been severely disappointed by this band over the years, Flea and Frusciente (especially live) are still amazingly talented and a joy to watch.

i think Mablak is onto something. Not sure why BSSM and Mother's Milk are so under-appreciated here. back then RCHP were a refreshing change to the other stuff going on in "alternative music".
what foo and rhcp have in common since then, is that they are both latched on to the leftovers of the 90's hayday, and they both made their success by continuing to releases watered-down unoriginal versions of 90's rock that are familiar and catchy enough to survive in the shitty mainstream radio world....but nothing more.
rhcp changed their sound so that everything was more associated with Under The Bridge than anything else on blood sugar sex magic (especialy on By The Way). And Foos, well, they're just Everclear with more credibility because of the Nirvana-connection (though they do put on good live shows, i'll give 'em that). I respect Grohl but have never been into any of Foo's albums. They just never brought anything new to the table, imo. And like i said earlier, at least RHCP still have John and Flea...which makes up for a lot.

John Frusciante is a beast on the guitar. Flea is a beast on the bass. Anthony sucks.
But, RHCP probably wouldnt have gotten very far without him. Anthony gave them that uniqueness that propelled them into the mainstream with BSSM. John is a better singer than Anthony but he doesnt have the charisma to be a frontman.
Also, Anthony looks exactly like Iggy Pop, so he's not all bad
