View Full Version : students: fall classes?
mxzombie 04-28-2008, 10:04 AM coming into my senior year so things are finally getting pretty interesting
my classes for fall are:
communication theory
senior design project I
real-time DSP lab
engineering acoustics
active filter design
digital audio I
europe in the age of hitler and stalin
after that only one more semester
Eulogy 04-28-2008, 10:06 AM i feel like i already posted this somewhere. hm. but hey why not do it again?!
fundamentals of journalism
mark twain
intro to fiction writing
beginning spanish II
sociology of terrorism
ack. after that only three more semesters :-/
mxzombie 04-28-2008, 10:08 AM luckily i'll have a cool 14 credits my last semester, given that i pass all my classes until then
Eulogy 04-28-2008, 10:10 AM yeah i was all pumped to take only 9 credits my last semester.
then i remembered i'm going to need 12. no part time status for me :(
cocksure 04-28-2008, 10:13 AM the american university system is confusing
Eulogy 04-28-2008, 10:16 AM nah
cocksure 04-28-2008, 10:26 AM how much do you know about others
duovamp 04-28-2008, 10:34 AM Note to self: sign up for fall classes
BumbleBeeMouth 04-28-2008, 10:35 AM thought it said fail classes. no wonder i did!
duovamp 04-28-2008, 10:39 AM I thought it said fail at first too.
ravenguy2000 04-28-2008, 10:47 AM I'm taking Urban Geography this summer and at least one other class but I'm not sure yet.
I'm getting advised this Thursday for the fall classes. All of my options seem pretty boring so far but that's what I get for taking interesting stuff at the beginning I guess.
mxzombie 04-28-2008, 10:47 AM the american university system is confusing
what's confusing?
Eulogy 04-28-2008, 10:53 AM how much do you know about others
one time this kid from france tried to explain his school system and i couldn't follow it very well.
that's it i guess. but if you grew up here you would not find it confusing. unless you're a total idiot.
cocksure 04-28-2008, 12:59 PM what's confusing?
to me it looks like in america a uni is just some kind of school and you pick like five or even more quite specific subjects for a semester and next semester you might pick something completely different and in the end you may or may not get a diploma
i don't know. in germany it's commonplace just to pick one or two (usually not more than that) broader subjects like "business studies" or "law" and study them until you get a degree. then you can continue if you like.
i mean
fundamentals of journalism
mark twain
intro to fiction writing
beginning spanish II
sociology of terrorism
that doesn't really look like you have a specific plan as to what you are going to do with all that later
cocksure 04-28-2008, 01:00 PM excuse my bad posts plz
Eulogy 04-28-2008, 01:08 PM that doesn't really look like you have a specific plan as to what you are going to do with all that later
journalism goes toward a journalism minor
mark twain and fiction writing go toward my english degree
i have a foreign language requirement to meet
sociology of terrorism is an elective i'm taking because i feel like it.
cocksure 04-28-2008, 01:10 PM how can you study so many things at once
do you have a job
Eulogy 04-28-2008, 01:11 PM how can you study so many things at once
do you have a job
uh. i dunno. it's just five classes. it's not very hard.
and i don't usually work while in school :-/
Shapan 04-28-2008, 01:15 PM school doesnt end until june, but if all goes well something along the lines of uppder divs in bio, psych, philosophy, and a course in physics. maybe a breadth in there somewhere but im not sure if i need anything, just doing upper divs to try and get my bio major and psych and philo minors.
i might end up switching out of bio into one of the latter but i still want to do med school
note to self: you're lazy for only taking like 1 or 2 classes at a time.
KnowingSheWould 04-28-2008, 04:09 PM i still havent registered. i slept through my classes today and forgot i was going to see an advisor about what i needed to take. in a few minutes i might register online for a few courses. i dont even know if i should take summer classes or w/e
i had homeworks due today and never handed them in because i stayed home
probably modern phsyics 2, another semester of german, inorganic chemistry and various chemistry labs , inorganic, analytical ,physical
kelsome 04-28-2008, 04:37 PM For my last semester...
Mass Communication Theories
Video Workshop III
Film Criticism
Professional Internship
Yoga
The only class I need is theory, but I need at least 10 more hours to graduate.
bja1288 04-28-2008, 04:41 PM repost i guess. second year classes
CS 225 Data Structures
ECE 210 Analog Signal Processing
ECE 290 Computer Engineering I
PHYS 212 Electricity and Magnetism
ravenguy2000 04-28-2008, 04:43 PM and all this time i thought eulogy was going be a mark twain scholar
TheMilstead 04-28-2008, 05:47 PM So far, it's looking like:
Graphic Design IV
New Media Design
English - Short Stories and Novels
Beginning Painting
...gonna be a light semester. But I'm doing this my last two semesters so I can stay an extra one and graduate with a BFA degree instead of just a BA.
loser2d 04-28-2008, 05:58 PM I dont register until I have freshman orientation in July
:(
Eulogy 04-28-2008, 06:00 PM why is that sad
loser2d 04-28-2008, 06:03 PM cuse its not soon enough
i want college to start already
cocksure 04-28-2008, 06:03 PM what is freshman orientation
sounds like something i need
mxzombie 04-28-2008, 06:05 PM to me it looks like in america a uni is just some kind of school and you pick like five or even more quite specific subjects for a semester and next semester you might pick something completely different and in the end you may or may not get a diploma
i don't know. in germany it's commonplace just to pick one or two (usually not more than that) broader subjects like "business studies" or "law" and study them until you get a degree. then you can continue if you like.
i mean
that doesn't really look like you have a specific plan as to what you are going to do with all that laterthe thing is you pick a specific field to study, but in order to earn a degree in any field you often have "general education" requirements that can ******* things like art or foreign languages. to fulfill those requirements you generally can choose from potentially tens of classes within a department.
cocksure 04-28-2008, 06:06 PM thanks for that. that was kind of what i suspected from the beginning.
loser2d 04-28-2008, 06:11 PM what is freshman orientation
sounds like something i need
Well for me its just when I confirm or change my major. I also meet with the department head and talk about what are the requirements for the major and also they also give us advice on how to get adjusted to college life and all of the resources that are available to me. My orientation is 3 days, but it can vary.
cocksure 04-28-2008, 06:12 PM so you've already applied and all that
loser2d 04-28-2008, 06:19 PM well since im going to a school with over 4000 kids in my class there are several sessions and I just have to sign up for one. I can sign up for one starting june 2nd.
cocksure 04-28-2008, 06:24 PM for me it's june 1st
i guess i'll just do that and see what happens
loser2d 04-28-2008, 06:25 PM what school are you going to?
cocksure 04-28-2008, 06:33 PM why does that interest you
loser2d 04-28-2008, 06:35 PM just curious and to see if i know anything about the school so I can tell you what i know, in case you dont know about. just trying to help
cocksure 04-28-2008, 06:37 PM i'll not go to an american school, you will know nothing about it, leave me alone
loser2d 04-28-2008, 06:39 PM lol
leave cocksure alone
ps
i actually know quite a bit about international schools, i went to a boarding school in years for my first 2 years of high school.
Charmbag 04-28-2008, 06:59 PM I haven't registered yet or anything. but I'm guessing something like
Calculus II
Macroeconomics
French I and hopefully another language, either Russian, Chinese, Japanese or continuing with Spanish
and maybe something else econ/international politics/cultural studies-related
that's assuming I don't go to school in the summer, which I probably will
cocksure 04-28-2008, 06:59 PM i actually know quite a bit about international schools, i went to a boarding school in years for my first 2 years of high school.

hmm didn't you used to go to PSU? did you transfer? and if so was it easy to do?
Mablak 04-29-2008, 02:54 AM hmm didn't you used to go to PSU? did you transfer? and if so was it easy to do?
Uh nope. I know one guy who transfered from PSU, I don't know how hard it was for him though.
murgle 04-29-2008, 06:32 AM Nothing because I'm graduating in AUGUST. It only took 5 years.
This summer I'm taking:
Music Ethnology- Popular American Music
Sociology- Marriage and Family
2 damn electives keeping me away from graduating in a week.. Bulllllshit.
cocksure 04-29-2008, 06:39 AM out of that door? out of the door?
Learn proper english if you are going to blast me.

talk show host 04-29-2008, 09:16 AM Fuck knows if this fits with what you're all talking about, but my LAST semester *dum dum DUUUUUM* beginning in July will look like this
Philosophy of Gender
20th Century German Philosophy
Nazi Germany
Body and Blood: Religious Conflicts
I'm a free man come November, scary as hell....
Lucy Sky Diamonds 04-29-2008, 10:04 AM I'm waiting on my acceptance to grad school right now. *bites nails*
KnowingSheWould 04-29-2008, 11:58 AM more like students: fail classes? amiright

alexthestampede 04-29-2008, 03:57 PM summer
CHEM 3119 - Anlytical Chemistry Lab
fall
CHEM 2133 - Inorganic Chemistry Lab I
CHEM 3119 - Anlytical Chemistry Lab
CHEM 4336 - Fundamentl Biochemistry
CHEM 4372 - Physical Chemistry II
GERM 3111 - Adv Conversatnl German
PHYS 3316 - Modern Physics II
the german class is only one hour a week of meeting and conversing in german. i had to choose between the german lecture and modern physics 2 :(
after spring 09 i am just going to have a few elective courses left hopefully i can visit some of the higher ups and convince them my transfer credits are good enough
dean_r_koontz 04-29-2008, 04:43 PM fundamental biochemistry again huh?
cocksure 04-29-2008, 05:05 PM you're the good son my father never had, anders, seriously
alexthestampede 04-29-2008, 07:35 PM it's a 4000 level course so the 3000 level one i already took doesnt satisfy the requirement
ravenguy2000 04-29-2008, 08:08 PM Ok, so this summer I am at least taking Urban Geography and Social Anthropology. And maybe one more. If I take the 3rd one from July 15 to August 16 I will be in class every Monday through Thursday 5:30 to 9. Sounds intense but I think I can do it. Depends on the money situation too.

alexthestampede 04-29-2008, 08:20 PM b's and c's and then almost straight a's.... did it get easier, less hedonism, got into classes you were interested in?
<asf>
bardy 04-29-2008, 08:21 PM I didnt think anyone would actually look at that. it was supposed to portray how little you all care about each others classes but I guess not.
freshman year was a lot of transitioning into the OMG I GOTTA STUDY ALL THE TIME mentality of engineering... then I got used to it so it got easier. I am a loser I didn't party but on the weekends. That and they try to weed out the weak ones freshman year so they are annoyingly nitpicky with test answers and assignments.
since you all actually looked at it. I would like to point out that to get cum laude I would have to get a 3.4 and I ended up with like a 3.396342432 or something that should have rounded up but weoiarjewoirjaweroijewaoirjewoir FUCK if I actually ever wanted to impress anyone I'd tell them cum laude anyway.

the german class is only one hour a week of meeting and conversing in german. i had to choose between the german lecture and modern physics 2 :(
after spring 09 i am just going to have a few elective courses left hopefully i can visit some of the higher ups and convince them my transfer credits are good enough
are you a chemistry major?
alexthestampede 04-29-2008, 08:22 PM no, i just picked up a few chem classes cuz im interested in it. im going for a degree in music theory
Travis Meeks 04-29-2008, 08:24 PM rock on

class schedule for upcoming semester =/= entire fucking transcript
bardy 05-04-2008, 11:57 AM hey ravenguy are you going to get your GIS certificate?
you could get a pretty decent job with that. we hire them at my company! they help with a lot of market research and exploration for new sites. I bet they make ~40,000g
ravenguy2000 05-04-2008, 12:13 PM hey ravenguy are you going to get your GIS certificate?
you could get a pretty decent job with that. we hire them at my company! they help with a lot of market research and exploration for new sites. I bet they make ~40,000g
Well, it's something I think I'm really interested in so I'm pumped to take the class and my internship is probably going to be with a place that uses it a lot.
I don't know what it takes to get certified, though, maybe I will look into it and we can talk about it and be buddies. :)
Travis Meeks 05-04-2008, 12:21 PM You should be able to get some sort of university sponsored GIS certification after taking 1-2 years of GIS classes. I also highly recommend you do this since there is a large demand for GIS technicians in the environmental and engineering fields. I even almost went back to school for GIS.
Are you getting a BS In Geography?
ravenguy2000 05-04-2008, 12:26 PM Urban Studies. It just happens that I haven't done much in Geography yet so it's all getting packed in at the end.
And yeah, I just looked at Uconn has a certification program that only requires 4 classes. Pretty sweet maybe I'll do that first before thinking about graduate school. I mean if I like this first class.
bardy 05-04-2008, 12:35 PM yeah I am going to eventually have to learn how to use it... it doesn't seem that complicated though. I am probably just going to tinker around with it and not take any classes, like I did with the geology program. man I hate taking classes on computer programs!!
but it seems like a pretty cool job... our guys are pretty privy to all the top secret information and gets tons of credit for not doing a whole lot.
Travis Meeks 05-04-2008, 12:39 PM what Geology program?
dean_r_koontz 05-04-2008, 12:41 PM eulogy seem a bit jealous of bardys academical achievments.
bardy 05-04-2008, 12:41 PM Surpac (it's part of GEMCOM sort of. we "learned" GEMCOM/GEMS in school and it's similar)
I use the mine planning add-ons... pit optimizer and mine scheduler. and sometimes I help them make models if it's something that pretty much just requries me to connect the drillholes with lines because I can't do any interpretation
Eulogy 05-04-2008, 12:45 PM eulogy seem a bit jealous of bardys academical achievments.
uhhh why would i be? i mean good for her, but i'm doing just fine, thanks.
Travis Meeks 05-04-2008, 12:48 PM oh. My project is currently using MVS (Mining Visualization System) to make 3-D models showing contamination concentrations. Are you familiar with that?
bardy 05-04-2008, 12:54 PM no but I just looked it up and it looks similar but geared towards more your arena than ours. I think the fault modeling looks fun though. All those programs are fun to learn and use... I am a nerd.
Side note, I recently designed a pretty huge surface impoundment for one of our operations and they just took it to the department of dam safety for approval and I am completely freaked out someone is going to build something I designed. They have to get it stamped by a PE but still.
Travis Meeks 05-04-2008, 01:04 PM are you working towards a PE? They don't have a PG program in NJ which I am very happy about.
bardy 05-04-2008, 04:57 PM maybe... they dont have a mining engineering PE test in CA so I'd haev to go to another state to do it... or try to learn civil engineering
