Not counting the live version of Bring The Light, it is by far the best song on Zeitgeist. Yet it gets a lot of hate from people here.
View Full Version : Why exactly do people hate United States? Banana 03-31-2008, 08:26 PM Not counting the live version of Bring The Light, it is by far the best song on Zeitgeist. Glopaiswe 03-31-2008, 08:30 PM it is boring and way too long lucid_interval 03-31-2008, 08:31 PM Not counting the live version of Bring The Light, it is by far the best song on Zeitgeist. I love how it changes up constantly throughout the song, and the length is key to that. redbull 03-31-2008, 08:44 PM Not true at all. I love how it changes up constantly throughout the song, and the length is key to that. uh it doesn't at all. that's why most people hate it. better than new 03-31-2008, 08:47 PM I still find United States to be extremely boring. I was hoping each night I saw them that it somehow wouldn't make it on to the set. Banana 03-31-2008, 08:50 PM uh it doesn't at all. that's why most people hate it. It does change up. It's all whatever it is at the beginning and than it slows down for a bit. And than it does the di di daaaa di di daaaaa di di daaa for awhile before a climax ending. It changes up more than any smashing pumpkins song since MCIS. TheMilstead 03-31-2008, 08:56 PM It does change up. It's all whatever it is at the beginning and than it slows down for a bit. It changes up more than any smashing pumpkins song since MCIS. A song that features an open D string ringing throughout the entire nine and a half minutes of the song 'changes up'? I miss Pumpkins songs like Muzzle where no two verse or chorus was the same. TheMilstead 03-31-2008, 10:10 PM actually thats not too far off. The song takes 5 minutes before it does anything different, CiGrooski. TheMilstead 03-31-2008, 11:16 PM Chill, CiGrooski. I Don't Live 04-01-2008, 02:29 AM i hate it a little more than i should because i am bitter about what a lame "epic" it is BlissedandGone2 04-01-2008, 03:34 AM its a pain in the ass to tune the guitar to it. i wouldn't use that tuning anywhere else whats the tuning? Shinobi 04-01-2008, 06:35 AM US for me is more about Jimmys drumming than anything else, especially on the live versions. His blitzing of the toms at the very start is awesome, then turns into a steady rolling thuinder. His nuances in the middle interlude part are cool, they way he stops and then jumps back in when the song kicks off again, and so on and so on.. Jimmy rocks the song! Kahlo 04-01-2008, 06:44 AM I like the song aside from the fucking pointlessness of the middle section...Rush did that along time ago and I'm not quite sure what Billy is trying to achieve, other than being difficult for its own sake. I'd imagine this is how it is in Billy's head: "HA! THE FANS WILL HATE THIS! IT WILL CHALLENGE THEM ON A LEVEL ONLY I, BILLY CORGAN CAN APPRECIATE- AND WHEN THEY COME BACK IN TEN YEARS TIME AND SAY "WOW BILLY SURE WAS AHEAD OF HIS TIME WITH THAT ONE" I WILL LOOK NONCHALANT, BUT ON THE INSIDE I WILL BE LAUGHING" I'm going outside. areyougaffney? 04-01-2008, 07:11 AM when I first head it i thought it was a bit dull compared to the other long pumpkins songs. It has grown on me a lot though. I like the vocal production on this song....i'm sure many will disagree and the ending is great. It's not as strong as the other epics but it's good. Kennys Number 1 04-01-2008, 07:28 AM 1. Bad placement in setlists 2. Its too long, during the time that they play united states (and superchrist for that matter) they could play several other better songs 3. Lacks the dynamics of Silverfuck 4. No Kenny Aranoff duovamp 04-01-2008, 08:44 AM i hate the united states because its a fascist country, and i haet united states because it's soooo lame and boring Pizza Club 04-01-2008, 09:04 AM i hate it a little more than i should because i am bitter about what a lame "epic" it is Just cause it's long doesn't make it epic. I like the song, besides the middle part of guitar-version-of-whale-mating-calls. Skradgee 04-01-2008, 09:31 AM <--likes it. What I especially like about the newest live versions is how some of the guitar effects from the solo section of the song got moved up to the beginning. Billy hits the chords and then lets those laser sounds hit ya. somaziro 04-01-2008, 09:42 AM too long, needs to be like 5 minutes long, cut out the lame middle part. AlaskanBastard 04-01-2008, 09:50 AM I liked it the first time I heard it, from the Paris bootleg. It was probably only because I had no idea what the new songs were going to sound like, and I was happy that they weren't some TFE crap. But the album version sucks, and the live version gets boring quickly. Kahlo 04-01-2008, 10:08 AM When I first heard it live I really appreciated it, but the song got old pretty quickly. It doesn't have anything to bring you back to listen to it again, something that I generally love SP songs for. tcm 04-01-2008, 10:16 AM i hate the united states because its a fascist country, and i haet united states because it's soooo lame and boring AGREE!! No Kenny Aranoff I agree with sometimes a bad placement in setlists. At Reading the start of the gig was awesome but they lost all the neutrals when they played U.S and glass and GC back to back. Again at 02 my non pumpkins mate there felt after a long set to play an extended version of U.S (longer solos at end) was a bit much. I fucking loved it though. somaziro 04-01-2008, 12:44 PM I liked it the first time I heard it, from the Paris bootleg. YES exactly Banana 04-01-2008, 01:12 PM When I saw them live they opened with US and I think that the song is a great opener to a concert. somaziro 04-01-2008, 01:43 PM When I saw them live they opened with US and I think that the song is a great opener to a concert. I can agree with that, I think the crowd gives alot more leeway to bands for longer/boring songs towards the beginning of a set than towards the end emotionalfriend 04-01-2008, 06:55 PM http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2007/03/06/us/06obama_lg.jpg SP4Me 04-01-2008, 07:28 PM I like it. I didn't at first, but after seeing them perform it live I had a change of heart. Reyngel 04-02-2008, 03:39 PM I think it's a good jam. Played loud, it's great. The middle solo lacks the genius of solos from other eras, but aside from that, the mood of the song is really good. The echo of "misunderstood" right when it all comes crashing down is awesome. croPUMPKINS 04-03-2008, 08:10 AM Don't know how ppl can't love USA. I love it!
