I was FrEakAChu, in a pokemon chat room. I don't remember what we talked about in that chat room, I think people mainly stuck to imaginary poke-battles and cybersex. And I remember trying to mess with people, getting in the way of their e-battles typing *exploding cock attack* and other sundry cock-related attacks. I kept doing the same thing for a couple months at least, I guess it must've been pretty hilarious for me at the time.

So did anyone else have first online experiences as sordid and juvenile as mine, or were you all class acts from the very beginning?

I would occasionally briefly pop into a random AOL chat but this is actually the first message board I ever posted on. I did not really have regular access to the internet until I went to college.

for me it was on IRC. i picked the name Liquid-J. i didn't really understand much about the internet, but for some reason, i gravitated toward #missouri. i tried to be inoccuous at first, like a wolf in sheep's clothing, and after a bit i threw down the sheep's costume and started lashing out at everyone, making threats and stuff. one guy kicked me out. and i kept trying to get back in, and then talked more shit, and as soon as they started messing with me i got my friend who's really good at computers to make me the op of that channel somehow and i banned all of those fuckers and changed the title to something insulting and kept harrassing them and shouting at them. any time i got in any trouble, i ran to my friend and he'd destroy anyone who messed with me with some weird scripts it was awesome

no real reason at all, it was the first place i kind of landed. i didn't even know how to find rooms and stuff. one guy said he was gonna fry my computer and i cried terrified to my friend because it was my parents computer and the guy disappeared. my friend said he wasn't proud of what he did, but that it had to be done. i think he did to him what the guy had threatened to do to me. he said he woudn't do it again, and to be careful. he tried teaching me how to write scripts but i didn't have any aptitude. i also slapped people with a large trout.

I pretty much didn't discover message boards until I was 15 or 16, I would've figured everyone started in a chat room somewhere, but I guess it depends how old some of us were when first using the internet.

i think i first got online in 1995, maybe 1996, but it was 1997 that stands out as when I went to AOL chat rooms and whatnot.
then came typing in "smashing pumpkins" into a search engine and perusing the websites for HOURS (i remember the netphoria front page being a regular in 1998). i distinctly remember chatting with a brazilian fan who was going to send me lyrics but never did. i dunno wtf that was all about.

I was pretty aggressive sometimes in my early internet days, I think everyone has to get that out of their system after being introduced to a place where you can say whatever you want with no repercussions. That's pretty awesome though, I bet people still live in fear of #missouri.

Prodigy Classic circa '94-96. my sn was twentytwo2. I frequented the Young Adults chat room. I don't remember what I talked about. It was certainly a more innocent time though. Before Myspace, napster, idiotic 4chan/somethingawful/lolcats linguo.

the oldest screen name of mine that i remember is 'neon eyes' on the official marilyn manson bbs. i think that was a really nice board actually. i seem to remember the interaction between people as very easy and innocent. i was mostly with the artsy playful people and not the fucked up misery people. lots of little games and long *does such and such* parties. after it was closed i came here because the o-boarders always talked about how mean and horrible the netphorians were

Chat rooms on Compuserve from 94-96 (got good porn), not sure of my nick

AOL from 96 until about 99, macfilez -> zelifcam chat room for warez trading... went by CDon8100 (my initials and the 8100 was the computer I was on)

Got Adelphia Cable internet around 99-00, started going as Quiet, hit the heights of internet ridiculousness by admininistoratingalizing the oboard.

AOL Message Boards, the rock music and sports ones. There were some "Teen" boards that were full of slutty girls that I thought were awesome too, but I had to make sure my mom wasn't watching. Back then I was allowed like an hour a night since we were paying by the hour.

My best friend did this for yeeeeeeeeeeeeeears.

I first got on AOL in 1995, I think. I got my own account and everything- my grandparents paid for it, as a Christmas present. I still have the account too, actually. Although now that you can have free AOL screen names, I don't pay anymore (My family still e-mails me on the AOL accounts)

My first screen name was VenusNox64. No idea why. Yes, I still have it. Hah. It took me until 1998 to come up with HapyKhiken, which is still my AIM name, and my name everywhere else.

I think I'd used the internet briefly before I got my own account and stuff, but not much. Then I started going into chat rooms (but never those lame gothic/vampire RPG ones like Misty did) like Smashing Pumpkins rooms, "teen" rooms, and my favorite was one called Mental Hospital (usually spelled MEnTaL HoSPiTaL, of course) and still talk to one friend that I met it in there in like 1999.
