KrazeeStacee 03-11-2008, 01:57 PM Since I quit smoking. :)
I went to the gyno yesterday and found out my blood pressure is now 139/79!!! (That's good btw, I was as high as 160/94 last year)
I also lost 7lbs since I was there for my annual last December.
The nurse laughed and said "Isn't it supposed to be the other way around...you gain weight when you quit smoking?"
I rock. How about you?
Richard III 03-11-2008, 01:59 PM Nice one. I quit 6 1/2 years ago. :)
KrazeeStacee 03-11-2008, 02:00 PM Congrats. I can't wait until I can say that...how strange.
hnibos 03-11-2008, 02:00 PM 2 days :)

Eulogy 03-11-2008, 02:01 PM o/

KrazeeStacee 03-11-2008, 02:02 PM *\o
I hope so! It's not even fun to smoke now that you can't smoke in bars/restaurants anymore anyway.
Richard III 03-11-2008, 02:02 PM Gets easier after 2 weeks. 4 weeks and you've done it.
wHATcOLOR 03-11-2008, 02:07 PM you want a fucking medal?
<ya bitch!!!>
stephanie says 03-11-2008, 02:07 PM How did you quit?
waltermcphilp 03-11-2008, 02:08 PM i haven't smoked in 21 years.
KrazeeStacee 03-11-2008, 02:09 PM <ya bitch!!!>

but you meet so many interesting people when your standing 15 feet away from the entrance, all huddled together in the 3 degree weather!
hnibos 03-11-2008, 02:09 PM just out of curiousity, what kind of cigarettes did you smoke?

i've never been able to smoke indoors here. and the weather is as shitty as it is anywhere else in the country. originally i thought it would help me stop, but instead i ended up standing outside in subzero temperatures and driving snow. whoops. and now it's getting warmer out...and then i go home for summer and other people actually smoke.
i don't know. i haven't decided that i actually want to quit, so i don't see it happening. maybe if i start working out regularly again it can provide some motivation. i'm scared to see how well i can run now. :erm:
Eulogy 03-11-2008, 02:11 PM but you meet so many interesting people when your standing 15 feet away from the entrance, all huddled together in the 3 degree weather!
in my experience, i'll be out there by myself and then i'll get swarmed by drunk bitches who are all "LOL I ONLY SMOKE WHEN I DRINK LOL CAN I HAVE A CIGARETTE?"
they're not all that interesting.
KrazeeStacee 03-11-2008, 02:14 PM How did you quit?
I used this prescription pill called Chantix.
It's honestly amazing, I recommend it to anyone who's serious about quitting. It blocks the nicotine from attaching to your receptors in your brain...but you can smoke while you take it for the first week or so. You start to notice that cigarettes aren't doing anything for you..and for me, it was really only a little frustrating for 2 days. Then I was ready to quit and I was able to do so without any of the insanity.
You're supposed to take it for 12 weeks but I got mine through a friend so I only had enough for about a month. After a few weeks I was tired of having to remember to take the pills and I felt like I was alright to get off them, so I did and I've been fine. I believe the only reason they tell you to stay on them for so long is because they really do make cigarettes taste horrible because they aren't giving you any of the positive feelings you feel when you smoke...so in case you slip up and have one here or there, it ends up being nasty and you don't start smoking again.
I think the FDA just approved that it can be taken for an addition 12 weeks, if necessary.
yo soy el mejor 03-11-2008, 02:15 PM congrats. last night on conan anthony giamatti or whatever his name is said he started smoking again after having quit for 8 years.
KrazeeStacee 03-11-2008, 02:17 PM just out of curiousity, what kind of cigarettes did you smoke?
For a long, long time I smoked Marlboro reds. For the last year or so I've been smoking Camel lights.
hnibos 03-11-2008, 02:18 PM Camel lights.
only cigarette worth smoking
Richard III 03-11-2008, 02:19 PM I used to smoke Camel full strength. The smell used to piss people off when I was driving.
yo soy el mejor 03-11-2008, 02:21 PM i smoke camel lights, too. i started off smoking turkish silvers and i sometimes get a hankering for them.
KrazeeStacee 03-11-2008, 02:22 PM i've never been able to smoke indoors here. and the weather is as shitty as it is anywhere else in the country. originally i thought it would help me stop, but instead i ended up standing outside in subzero temperatures and driving snow. whoops. and now it's getting warmer out...and then i go home for summer and other people actually smoke.

Yeah that's the problem, you can't quit if you don't REALLY REALLY want to...because it's just so fucking hard that when you try and you aren't really dedicated, you'll find reasons to start back up again.
I think two things forced me over the edge from "Yeeaaaahhh...I'd LIKE to quit...sometime..." to "I don't want to smoke these fucking things anymore ahh!!":
My blood pressure that I mentioned earlier (160/94) and the fact that you can't smoke indoors anymore...and it's winter.
You just have to find your own reasons and you'll know when you're ready. You can't let anyone force you into it, it's just gotta happen. Good luck to you whenever you do decide to do it...it's tough but it's not impossible. I also highly recommend that Chantix stuff.
Caine Walker 03-11-2008, 02:23 PM i could never get into the turkish variety. camel light all the way. i'll smoke a parliament every now and then, and sometimes when i'm feeling nutty i'll get a pack of marlboro milds.
i smoke like once a month
spring 03-11-2008, 02:25 PM good job
Eulogy 03-11-2008, 02:25 PM i really think if i make a concerted effort to get back into the shape i was in a couple years ago, i'll pretty much have to stop. but that means it comes down to whether or not i can motivate myself to do that over the coming months. i'm thinking there's a chance though. i always feel kind of gross and i really miss the way i felt after an exhausting workout.
KrazeeStacee 03-11-2008, 02:27 PM Yeah plus exercise gives you an endorphin rush so that could possibly be something that helps you get over any cravings you have.
Richard III 03-11-2008, 02:28 PM Smoking indoors is a lot worse for you, you're breathing in smoke all the time. Everything stinks of smoke too.
Caine Walker 03-11-2008, 02:29 PM Yeah plus exercise gives you an endorphin rush so that could possibly be something that helps you get over any cravings you have.
and you would certainly start to feel better than "stagnate. bored. listless."
shit, i need to get back into shape. DOIN' IT.

what's weird is that last year, i worked out all the time. and i'd get back to my room, shower, and then go have a cigarette. it was immensely satisfying every time.
yo soy el mejor 03-11-2008, 02:33 PM i smoke on my way to the gym and i smoke when i get home from the gym. lol
KrazeeStacee 03-11-2008, 02:48 PM what's weird is that last year, i worked out all the time. and i'd get back to my room, shower, and then go have a cigarette. it was immensely satisfying every time.
lol yeah...I was the same way after dance class. In fact, one of my habits that I still get a little antsy about is after my drills class my friend and I would go sit in one of our cars and have a cigarette before we parted ways. Since then, we've both been bringing pot sometimes so we can still have that moment but without the cigarettes.
If you want to do yourself a favor, break yourself of that habit now and maybe instead, just wait 15 or 20 minutes after working out. Otherwise as soon as you quit and go to work out to curb your cravings, you'll be tearing your hair out afterward.
The hardest part is just when your brain EXPECTS to have a cigarette. Mine were also on the way home from work, after cleaning the house, after eating and while I'm sitting on the computer at home. (i.e., "triggers")
Nimrod's Son 03-11-2008, 02:55 PM I smoke so little now it's pretty much like not smoking. But when I enjoy a cocktail, I like to enjoy a smoke.

KrazeeStacee 03-12-2008, 09:18 AM Whoa! That stuff makes you hallucinate some crazy things.
Hell yeah it does! Well, crazy dreams anyhow. I didn't mind that part though. Plus it only lasted for 2 weeks and once I was ready to get off it, the only thing I noticed was that I'd get sick if I didn't eat enough before taking them. That's what really pissed me off because I don't eat a lot at lunch and I'd end up sick every day. Plus I'm just bad at remembering.
KrazeeStacee 03-12-2008, 09:19 AM you still smoke weed?
Yep.
sppunk 03-12-2008, 09:52 AM Doctor-ordered blood pressure is now 110/60, down from 120/70.
Trotskilicious 03-12-2008, 10:28 AM yeah I quit smoking without pills.
what's the point of quitting smoking and then buying pills that will cost as much if not more than a cigarette habit? it's fucking retarded. Stop being weak.

because eventually you don't need the pills anymore? what the fuck? remember when you chastised her for getting pills with nicotine in them when her pills didn't have nicotine in them? sometimes you need to resist the urge to be a useless dick.

there are more benefits since the pills doesn't have the same damaging effects on the respiratory epitelia, doesn't increase the risk to get lung cancer for example. even if you pay as much for the pills as for the cigarrettes that you previously smoked, it's still a better deal. also all people aren't as prone to getting addicted to nicotine due to how their dopamine releasing systems work. in short: stop trying to take advantage of and brag about even the smallest, most pointless little accomplishments in your life.
KrazeeStacee 03-12-2008, 10:47 AM yeah I quit smoking without pills.

For the second time, I didn't pay for the pills (plus if you have insurance, they're probably covered and only cost you like $5 which is less than a pack of smokes).
...and I may be weak when it comes to quitting smoking but at least I can balance my check book like a big girl.
KrazeeStacee 03-12-2008, 10:50 AM IT'S CALLED WILLPOWER.
Put down the hoagie and we can talk about willpower.
Congrats Stacee! :)
Many of my friends used Chantix to help them quit smoking, and they all swear by it. The only complaint I ever heard about them, is something like you have to drink so many glasses of water a day...and by the time you're done taking the Chantix you can't stand water. Although that probably varies person to person....maybe this guy just didn't like water to begin with.
I'll probably quit smoking when I quit my job. About 90% of my coworkers smoke, so smoke breaks are the most exciting part of the day for me.....
KrazeeStacee 03-12-2008, 11:11 AM Yeah I don't like water much either and you do have to drink a lot of water with it but it's not more than you should be drinking anyway. I was just annoyed with the fact that you have to eat a FULL meal or else you'll get sick. Value meals I get for my lunch weren't enough and I'd end up feeling nauseous from 1-4pm every day :( But either way it's still totally worth it. I recommend it to anyone looking to quit.
yo soy el mejor 03-12-2008, 01:05 PM the best people are the ones who starts smoking at 12 and then stops at 15 never to smoke again
how do twelve year olds even get their hands on cigarettes? if my little brother asked me to buy some for him i'd slap him silly and then tell my mom. i really wouldnt slap him.

They steal them from their parents.
My friend stole one from her mom when we were like 11 and we went to the park and tried to smoke it but we didn't really know how so I don't think it worked out.
I started smoking when I was 14...mainly just because all my friends did and we'd always go to Baker's Square to sit, chat and drink coffee...they'd all be smoking and I just started smoking theirs and eventually I was hooked.
It's kinda weird to say I smoked for almost 10 years.
yo soy el mejor 03-12-2008, 01:12 PM yeah i did it once when i was 15 and nearly choked to death. then all my friends smoked and i was always like *gag* and would say how disgusting it was. when i was 18 i worked an overnight job and had a lot of down time and started then. now i still smoke and all my friends who used to tell me how gross i am for it. they just need to remember how much they liked it at 16/17

KrazeeStacee 03-17-2009, 02:02 PM and I am also interested to hear if Stacey remains smoke free. Nice bump.
I'm what people call a "social smoker" now, I bum off my friends when I drink and occasionally when I'm really stressed, but I'm not a full time smoker anymore.
I think in the last year I've bought like 3 packs of cigarettes, and that's mostly only because Mark and I like to smoke them when we take drugs. They're going up again here next week (the cheapest you can get them is $7 a pack right now) so I'm REALLY happy that I don't like smoking 80% of the time.
I'm hoping I eventually just don't want them. I do feel myself wanting them less and less now that I've been working out and trying to do my 8 minute miles and shit. I don't even think about them till I'm around a bunch of friends smoking, which is great because the time I went cold turkey I thought about them every day for almost a year (until I started smoking again).
Thanks for asking. :)
KrazeeStacee 03-17-2009, 02:03 PM I went to the gyno yesterday and found out my blood pressure is now 139/79!!! (That's good btw, I was as high as 160/94 last year)

Ol' Couch Ass 03-17-2009, 02:07 PM Nice. Your BP is downright respectable these days :smoke:
KrazeeStacee 03-17-2009, 02:09 PM Seriously. It's pretty great. I've been working out like 3-4 times a week though too since January so I know that helps. I wish I put down my weight cuz I'm curious what it was when I lost that weight.
