Huge props to Trent for an amazing album but did Billy beat him to the punch with the Stigmata OST? Having said that, Billy should definitely start paying attention to Trent. The marketing + the music is genius.

Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven would like a few words on that. It could've gone into the vault instead of being given away. I think billy is much less money hungry than people assume. It's no crime to sell your albums rather than give them away, but lately you'd think so (ok, i'm awaiting the multiple-copies-of-zeitgeist arguments to come crashing down on me now; yeah, i know, that sucked). SP headlined over NIN, and after the NIN set SP opened with Superchrist. I think the entire crowd felt the same way you did T&T, just now. trev 03-05-2008, 08:01 PM your comment reminded me of Reading Festival last year. SP headlined over NIN, and after the NIN set SP opened with Superchrist. I think the entire crowd felt the same way you did T&T, just now. i'm sure you came back saying NIN blew SP out of the water at that festival? davin 03-05-2008, 08:32 PM i'm sure you can find the thread if you did a search. who knows what would happen on any other night...but on that particular night, SP out-did them. the crowd reaction, the intensity of the show, there were many factors. tryign to be objective, i think the main reason is because Year Zero doesn't have much guitar and the SP set was all about chugging wailing guitars....that it just came on stronger for SP. and SP got to play longer. one thing that was abundantly clear was the comparison between NIN & SP vs. everybody else. Both bands, as mature veterans, just blew away the other acts in terms of musical prowess and tightness. both billy and trent wove in plenty of new material but the reception was no where near the level of the oldies. they both did great playing solo version of favorites (hurt and 1979) and to be honest i saw many similarities between what both these bands are going through right now... tcm 03-06-2008, 04:29 AM well on topic - trent has been making instrumental music in the same vein as ghosts for decades, even before billy wrote material for stigmata. but it's the collective whole that reminds me of Stigmata, the way it cycles from playful to wistful to hypnotic and back, while maintaining a surprisingly light mood. i find this overall tone really sets Ghosts apart from Trent's past instrumentals, which are all like the bleakest, most suffocating music ever. you might even call it maturity, but i think it's more a result of the approach taken in both cases, with focus on emotional texture instead of impact, both intended as soundtracks of sorts. altogether Ghosts shows a much greater sense of wide-eyed exploration than i'd come to expect from NIN, so perhaps for Trent that approach lent itself better to the kind of openness that comes more naturally to Billy. i just hope he doesn't think he can only write instrumentals this way. tcm 03-06-2008, 04:33 AM ^ Yeah, Reznor is just about as irrelevant as the '08 U.S. Elections.
