fort mcmurray. im here for four days. its as bad as people say...

i was in southern saskatchewan a month ago in the small town of estevan. it seemed like a nice town as i was walking around. just as i finished thinking that, some young thug backed up his car and said "hey asshole, why dont you use a crosswalk"...by no means was i was jaywalking. i said "fuck you". he then drove up and turned around, i ducked into a pizza store as i figured he was going to kick my ass.

fuck all of western canada. especially fort mac though.

for me it's the utter boringness of the landscape. the cancerous urban sprawl has turned it into a massive field of asphalt comprised of nothing but chain restaurants and stores. i mean, most amerrican cities have their fair share of walmarts and mcd's but there's nothing else in jacksonville, a city of millions. its only cultural contributions are limp bizkit and lynyrd skynyrd. 20 lane highways jammed with cars with only one person in them. it's a fucking atrocity in urban planning and development.

Ocean City MD was not the worst but the most surreal for me. Not a real city but a tourist destination filled with blocks and blocks of hotels. Weird!

I did not much care for Brooklyn NYC when I went to visit a friend's family. I had never seen a stripped car lying on its hood before or since.

i love me some shitholes. granted i never been to the rustbelt but i've read plenty and seen enough pictures to know that i'd probably love exploring places like detroit, east stl, gary, etc. just so much character in these places and so much beauty in its grit (i liked newark and camden nj). hick towns dont bother me either (been to a few in nevada. they are pretty creepy in a great way). they're good amusement and sometimes they can be in pretty rustic places. the biggest shithole for me would be place that lacks both beauty and character and needless to say i haven't travelled a lot but i'd award that title to some place like Bakersfield or Barstow.

Henrietta, OK. Or pretty much the whole state of Arkansas

Oh come on. Arkansas as a whole is not that bad. Little Rock and it's surrounding area isn't bad at all, and the northwest part of the state is one of the more affluent and faster growing areas in the entire country. That's not to say that there aren't a lot of shitty places here, but there's not enough to slag the entire state.

If we're gonna write off entire states, the conversation begins and ends with Mississippi. I got dragged on a vacation to Biloxi one time, and I thought it was the most miserable place in the world (and it's supposed to be the hot tourist/entertainment spot in the state). That is until some years later where I got dragged to Starkville. Going there was quite literally like traveling back in time to 1962. I actually feel kinda gloomy even thinking about the place.

The entire state of NJ. It was so drab the entire state is one big awful blur in my mind.
Hawkesburry, ON was pretty awful. So many Aerostar sightings in one day, it was more then we could handle.
Honourable mention: a few West Bank towns, including Bethlehem. Economically depressed, the children follow you around everywhere in hope of finding any cash you might toss their way. The stores are borded up, and it is a sad but beautiful place to be.

without a doubt, honduras. as sson as you get out of the airport youre greeted by kids willing to help carry your bags just so they can get some money. one particular spot on the drive from the airport to my grandmas house theres an area near a river bank thats filled with homes made out of metal scraps, with garbage, rotting food, feces of humans and animals, etc. The smell is just terrible and to think taht anyone could live in those conditions, atrocious. O yea, and a little flooding that can easily happen with a hurricane would wash all that away anyways. Those of the conditions for far too many people in that country.

There's so many to choose from:

Tyler, Texas is a little slice of deep south in the swampy thicket of the Piney Woods. Those guys that dragged that black guy behind their truck until he fell apart were from this area...so...yeah...

The North New Jersey Industrial Megaplex. I don't know what the fuck they call it, but it's what people are talking about when they say New Jersey sucks. It made me cry when I was on a subway riding back to the suburbs, wasted and cranky at 700 in the morning. It's the most unholy blight capitalism ever foisted upon the world.

Corpus Christi, Texas. I've never seen so many ugly people in my life. It's like the refineries retard everyone and all the pretty people move to San Antonio and Houston to mate.

Huntington, West Virginia. It's like the whole city is a run down ghetto surrounded by mountains and coal plants. Randy Moss is from here...

at least america's got this vast landscape to dwarf the crumminess of the worst towns. england's tiny yet for every beautiful or culturally significant town you get about 5-10 miserable vacuous shitholes full of council housing, poor planning, identikit highstreets, youth crime, druggies, the works. the state of the country is so depressing sometimes.

ed- i don't have definite nomination but this pretty much sums up the average british Scum Town:
