i'm not sure "cheese" is the right word for sigura ros but i agree that they are seriously dull. a few inspired tracks here and there but they're very one-flavour and the vocals get annoying after a while.

they've certainly gotten worse since Agaetis Byrjun

the first thing that stands out in their songs is the over-the-top vocals, which can be kind of annoying, but it didn't take long for the movie to suck me in and make me forget all that. they did a very nice job of blending live performance, scenes of iceland/the people, and interviews of the band - all in all creating a great piece of work and a chance to see the band from another light and in their home habitat.

i don't think the song from that trailer was actually in the movie.

Their music always gives me goosebumps.

I got to see them perform prior to one of the LA screenings and it definitely made the experience complete, rare to see them perform all acoustic.

Their talent is incredibly diverse, and I think perhaps a culture barrier arises with their music and audiences from other countries (paricularly the US). Regardless, there is a song they did for Heima with xylophones made from 100+ year old rhubarb stalks that is absolutely phenomenal in composition for instrumentation one would assume to be rather monotonous.

They're one of the better bands of the last decade or two, but I understand that most people don't like it, its not english and many songs don't have a defined drum beat, atypical guitar or other conventional elements.

that's not it at all, for me anyway- i love their sound and the rhubarb xylophone (or was it shingle?) song was my favourite thing in the movie. i happen to think SR are very talented guys and a great band as a unit but their music is just so tiresome; every song takes SO long to develop. i mean, i know its supposed to basically sound like the polar ice caps melting and stuff, but its basically about as fun as watching paint dry. its all hyper-emotive glacial soundscaping and no damn TUNES, man. why don't they try ROCKING for iceland for once instead of just crying about snowflakes all the time.

every live experience with them ive had has been horrible. horrible. ranking up with some of the worst shows ive ever let my ears bleed through of my life list. jesus wept. so i mean, i love the cocteau twins and i'm all for bjork and dolphin speak in general. go enya. but i really still dont see the appeal to these guys, and after seeing them live i'm even more apprehensive about giving any of their stuff a listen anymore. please help. i want to be cool. tell me how i should like them. tell me how we're all victims. tell it to my heart. tell me i'm the only one.

I saw them one time. at the Chicago Theatre. and it was one of the best shows i've ever seen.

Von is their worst album. i can't listen to it.

Takk might be worse than the other two, but it's still great. Glosloi, Hoppipolla, Saeglopur, and Gong are top tier tunes. the rest of it is pretty good too.

their live shows have too many couples cuddling
very annoying.

my favorite part of the video was the 4 of them playing the self made xylophone
that was really intimate.

if anyone wants to download the DVD, it's up at STmusic.org
PM me if you want an invite.

Yeah, I'm excited too. Flood might be a good match for them, we'll see. I hope they're using his song-construction advice and not using him to engineer god-awful Machina static or TFE noises. I'm just glad they're trying to record as fast as possible and don't do lots of the "cheesy" new age stuff Takk had. It was pretty, but they can be pretty powerful on their own.

And a note on Hvarf/Heim///Heima: The Heim disc had six acoustic recordings from the movie, but the rest of the movie isn't availabe on audio. So if you want the rest of the movie songs, like the xylophone song, look up "heima mp3" on scrapetorrent.

noise is a good sonic tool in the proper hands. billy can use it, flood can use it. they're artists. most noise bands on the other hand are mostly hacks who try to compensate for a lack of instrumental ability by throwing a tonne of money at their FX setup and switching everything on, then trying to convince themselves how pure and real their shit is. they don't give a fuck about substance.

Pretty much. Takk wasn't too bad... only in comparison to the two albums before it.
I really need to listen to some more Sigur Rós, I think all those CDs are buried somewhere in my room.
