The girl sees her sister jump in a fountain in her underthings after arguing with the gardener's son and decides he made her do it. Then the guy writes two versions a note, has the younger girl deliver the wrong one (contains the word cunt!) to the older sister. So she's convinced he is a sex maniac, then sees the library scene, and then later their cousin is raped. The younger girl accuses the gardener's son based on what she saw earlier. He goes to war, older sister cuts off ties with the family, etc. I actually liked the movie a lot better than I liked the book.

No way its getting script, its up against the powerhouses of No Country and Blood. Which is kind of odd because the other two movies are really more director projects and the town has been all abuzz about writers strike, and it'll probably go to a writer who isn't going to go on and on about that strike-related writer's rights and lifeblood of the industry and all that jazz. I think.

Biggest snub: no nomination for the awesome "King of Kong" in documentary, but the simply okay "Sicko" gets a nod. Lame.

they give them to actors or actresses who have had a substantial and excellent body of work. often for actors or actresses who have had an amazing array of characters. so like for example, the fact that he was nominated for pirates a couple years ago was a little bit ridiculous, but the character itself was wonderful. so that would be noted ya know? something like edward scissorhands doesn't get noted by the academy, but would in this case. i think hes a great character actor and has some really great roles. i dunno, just a thought.
