View Full Version : question for vegans.

as i understand it, veganism is the ethical decision not to involve or encourage the slavery of animals in one's sustainance- is that right?

if it is, then how would it be slavery to eat either a) an egg if a bird just dropped one and didn't want it (seeing as the egg isn't technically a living creature yet either) or b) milk and cheese if the cow just happened to uh, milk itself, and the extraction of the milk wasn't humanly forced. i mean if i were a cow and a just happened to milk myself into a bucket i'd be like "hey, do you want this" cause it would be a shame to waste it.

what do u think.

I don't eat meat, eggs or milk, and I don't wear fur... I haven't decided if I can/will eliminate all animal products from my life, so I'm not technically vegan. I do it because I think farming practices are cruel. I don't however have a problem with eating animals and would hunt and kill animals if such a lifestyle were possible in this day and age. some vegans are insane and think that they are achieving some sort of purity of existence by never ingesting anything that comes from an animal, but I think the stance "animals aren't food" is patently false. humans are actually food too, for somebody.

i guess i'm vegan, insofar as i avoid any animal products that result from farming. i have no problem with people eating random unsterilised bird eggs or with eating animals that are killed intentionally because they're pests or any animal killed accidentally.

i probably wouldn't eat hunted pests because i've lost the taste for meat, but i don't see anything wrong with those examples (provided the pests are killed by the most humane method possible, ceteris paribus). absolutism is for crazies

i guess i'm vegan, insofar as i avoid any animal products that result from farming. i have no problem with people eating random unsterilised bird eggs or with eating animals that are killed intentionally because they're pests or any animal killed accidentally.

i probably wouldn't eat hunted pests because i've lost the taste for meat, but i don't see anything wrong with those examples (provided the pests are killed by the most humane method possible, ceteris paribus). absolutism is for crazies
