is such an incredible song. I'm sitting here listening to it on repeat; it's been ages since i last heard it before tonight. There are so many great things going on here (even if the weirdly muffled verses are a little off-putting, they seem to work anyway). From the cool little opening (is he saying "hello" there, or what?), to the awesome wah solo from james, the cool guitar part over the chorus; billy's vocals are top notch (he should bring that falsetto back, holy fuck that one line sounds like he's had his balls cut off, but it sounds cool as shit for some reason). And is that a harmonica at the end? So many great layers to this song, right down to the pick slide ending... Another case of an amazing song not ending up on a proper album (but then again, I can't imagine any album on which it would have fit).

i always thought it was a pretty average song, nothing too special compared to other SP stuff of the same period.

yeah, glynis is way up at the top of the list of songs that sort of perfectly represent sp

in that similar vein of songs, i dug up apathy's last kiss the other day and can't stop listening to it. the muffled echo of 'there is' is sorta perfect

yeah apathy is way better than glynis.

but then again i'm the sort that gets bored of the intro's to rhino, soma, porcelina, and drown, before they kick in.

My god is subtle and great.

Who took their paths on the sand, yeah:

Little moment of bliss.

That song is so fucking wonderful and it represents completely what this band is missing now. If the Pumpkins still had some of this warmth and soul in addition to Billy's new slightly colder, more calculated approach, then we'd have a world beating band again.

100% correct. I'd love to see some of that swirling, colourful sunny vibe back in the Pumpkins. While some of their new stuff is a little psychedelic like Stellar, it still sounds quite cold to me.

I had the same epiphany with this song about a month ago after not having listened to it in probably 2-3+ years. I pulled out my "No Alternative" CD, and was just blown away.

pretty great song. I wouldn't say it's one of my all time favourites, but it's solid. I love the harmony part in the i believe in one love part of the song.

apathy is better, but Glynis is great.

(oh, and the robotic hello is from a red red meat song. i don't know which one)

Glynis is my favorite Pumpkins song. It's certainly one of the more bright and colorful and even creative things they did, and it actually has positive lyrics, which also makes it stand out from the norm of what they do.

I revisited this gem after reading this thread, this used to be one of my favorites when I was obsessed as a teenager.

I could see this on Siamese dream with a clean up on the mix job, sounds kind of like the pretty/happy melloncollie songs, like a precursor to Lily/beautiful/Cupid de locke. The whole song is great, gotta love all those chorus-worthy melodies.

"My god is subtle and great.
He can't be wounded
By the gossip and the hate of the frightened
Who turn their backs, on the sicckk....yeeeea"

Every part of the song is perfect at this point, the light phasing, everything-buried mix, falsetto.

The outro is so cool too, such a geeky line repeated, made ultra-gay by that super high note. The 'oooooo's in the background are pre-adore Smashing Pumpkins specialty.
