View Full Version : From SP.com: "European Landing"
drossbullet 01-29-2008, 08:25 PM The Mighty SP has arrived safely in Europe.
The band has been rehearsing feverishly and with stunning results. After a 6 hour run-through this afternoon, the new show and lighting set up is ready to go!
There are 15 songs that will be in the line-up for this tour that were not played during the 2007 tour. What will they include? Wait until tomorrow to find out when we post the setlist on SP.com!
Also, straight from Billy Corgan himself:
"We are very excited and feel this is a strong step forward towards both the future and honoring the past... Oh, and I got new clothes :) everybody else too!"
Expect a smashing 2008!
brillo998 01-29-2008, 08:28 PM im moderately excited. moreso for the new clothes.
Fritter 01-29-2008, 08:29 PM Oh, and I got new clothes :) everybody else too!"
God no.
mayday 01-29-2008, 08:29 PM "oh and i got new clothes.." =)
flyfire 01-29-2008, 08:30 PM he actually said "I got new clothes", pft
mayday 01-29-2008, 08:33 PM new clothes is a good thing =)
flyfire 01-29-2008, 08:36 PM a 40 year old saying (or the person who updates the site quoting him as saying) I got new clothes and then a smiley face is hilarious
cork_soaker 01-29-2008, 08:37 PM suits stitched from the finest invisible cloth in the land
mayday 01-29-2008, 08:39 PM yeah it's adorable
Gish08 01-29-2008, 08:40 PM Geek USA, Ruby, I Am One
They better play these fucking songs.
Corganist 01-29-2008, 08:44 PM I hope "We got new clothes" means "We realized that we looked ridiculous on the last tour, and we're gonna to try to correct that."
But I'm more excited about what the setlist will be.
the sellout 01-29-2008, 09:19 PM I'm betting that the clothes will be exact-fucking-ly the same, but in black. Anyone else?
dustrock 01-29-2008, 09:21 PM "We are very excited and feel this is a strong step forward towards both the future and honoring the past... " Interesting about "strong step" towards the future. Possibility of brand new songs?
15 new songs? Guessing Stellar, Ma Belle, Again x3, Pox, Sunkissed, and then 10 old songs.
Gish08 01-29-2008, 09:23 PM Hopefully they will retire Neverlost.
Fritter 01-29-2008, 09:28 PM I'm betting that the clothes will be exact-fucking-ly the same, but in black. Anyone else?
Probably.
Also 15 songs? Didn't it used to be 12? Sweet.
Spaceboy88 01-29-2008, 09:32 PM Maynoaise? Geek USA? One can only dream.
Gish08 01-29-2008, 09:36 PM Here Is No Why would be sweet. Hasn't been played in eons.
Banana 01-29-2008, 09:47 PM Wonder what type of fruity costume he's got planned.
dustrock 01-29-2008, 10:06 PM maybe he'll wear a mask, or some kind of weird makeup a la Michael Stipe.
Banana 01-29-2008, 10:14 PM I want to see him dress like an animal, like some native american. Wear a coyote head as a hat.
the sellout 01-29-2008, 10:29 PM I want him to wear an "i fucked D'arcy" shirt for the rest of the tour.
Who's with me?
redbull 01-29-2008, 10:29 PM I want him to wear an "i fucked D'arcy" shirt for the rest of the tour.
Who's with me?
DEBASER
Caine Walker 01-29-2008, 10:31 PM there's like, 8 or 9 people in this thread who need to get laid worse than i do.
avsfan7733 01-29-2008, 10:38 PM i hope they bring out an enhanced 99 floors
1100ww 01-29-2008, 10:43 PM new stage lighting rig, eh?
Thomas 01-29-2008, 11:09 PM "Oh, and I got new clothes"
Get ready for the lolfest !!
loser2d 01-29-2008, 11:15 PM Do you think the dismantle the other lighting rigs to make the new ones?
Because if they dont it must be pretty expensive.
hummer26 01-29-2008, 11:23 PM I am really hoping for a Kelly Capowski duet w/Corgan......maybe they can cover "the boy" by Iha.
Tobias Funke - "I am never nude"
JRiordan 01-29-2008, 11:54 PM They keep increasing the new songs count! Originally it was 8-9, then 10-12, now 15!! Geek USA is practically guaranteed now!
Hoping for some early 90's flashy/colorful shirts too
loser2d 01-30-2008, 12:30 AM I have a feeling that they are going with XYU as one of the "new" songs because I think Billy feels bad for not playing for the kid.
markpregen 01-30-2008, 12:40 AM ^Billy feels bad for not playing "The Boy"
loser2d 01-30-2008, 12:52 AM I guess everybody on here wants to hear "The Boy".
ChristHimself! 01-30-2008, 02:11 AM I just hope strtj becomes a feature in the setlists. They must realise how much the fans were going nuts over it.
Sarcastic Smile 01-30-2008, 02:57 AM They keep increasing the new songs count! Originally it was 8-9, then 10-12, now 15!! Geek USA is practically guaranteed now!
Hoping for some early 90's flashy/colorful shirts too
Oh, are their "guarantees" worth something now?
He said the rest of them got new clothes.. I thought Billy was the only one with a an outfit and the rest just tried to match him each day, last year.. so are they all going to have uniforms now? If they are, will they each alternate between only two like Billy did? White and Blue right?... hey wait a minute:idea:, i bet their outfits will be red.. that fits their whole theme ...ha red, genious:erm:
whywontyoulistn 01-30-2008, 04:40 AM suits stitched from the finest invisible cloth in the land
heh...my thoughts exactly.
topleybird 01-30-2008, 09:36 AM Please come out dressed as Captain America, please come out dressed as Captain America...
Eulogy 01-30-2008, 09:46 AM I just hope strtj becomes a feature in the setlists. They must realise how much the fans were going nuts over it.
he knows every song we go nuts for and has generally kept a pretty large portion of them out. i don't think he lets us dictate what he plays. at all.
arCHI 01-30-2008, 09:55 AM that seems true. it seems like a lot of fan favorites have been forgotten about. that makes you wonder why he plays bwbw at every show. i mean, if he wants to play what he wants to play then you think that would apply across the board.
stripes 01-30-2008, 09:58 AM What will they include? Wait until tomorrow to find out when we post the setlist on SP.com!
Oh please mighty SP, share with us your glory:eek:
rolmos 01-30-2008, 10:07 AM I'm curious about how Superchrist will sound like today (if it is played). The arrangement will probably be similar to the one that was recently recorded.
xezton 01-30-2008, 10:25 AM So like, is there someone over there that's going to stream us live photos of the concert like with Grand Rex? :)
Eulogy 01-30-2008, 10:42 AM i could personally go without ever hearing another rendition of Bullet. is it even a fan favorite? i mean everyone knows it and shows excitement when it's played, but i can think of.......150 songs i would much rather hear than bullet.
dustrock 01-30-2008, 11:07 AM Please come out dressed as Captain America, please come out dressed as Captain America...
5/5
Mr. Mister 01-30-2008, 01:01 PM Billy: Captain American
Jimmy: The Green Lantern
Everybody else: dresses
xezton 01-30-2008, 02:05 PM For some reason in this thread, whenever I see "Captain America" I read it as "Captain Planet". Much funnier.
ben94gt 01-30-2008, 02:23 PM since when did everyone start actually believing things he promised?
Caine Walker 01-30-2008, 02:51 PM i could personally go without ever hearing another rendition of Bullet. i can think of.......150 songs i would much rather hear than bullet.
nooooooooooo kidding.
Rickpat12 01-30-2008, 04:23 PM I say one night of all 15, that'd be kick ass.
arCHI 01-30-2008, 04:29 PM nooooooooooo kidding.
yeah my point was not that bwbw is a crowd pleaser, but just that it is recognized. if they never played it again i think we would live. i,for one, would probably be better off.
hummer26 01-30-2008, 05:54 PM I guess everybody on here wants to hear "The Boy".
Yes..."the boy" would be great if Iha made a cameo accompanied by Hanna Monana.
Ryan Seacrest - "I dont like girls, Seacrest out"
Eulogy 01-30-2008, 05:56 PM hasn't this show started?
where are the updates?
markpregen 01-30-2008, 06:00 PM http://forums.netphoria.org/showthread.php?t=156009
Eulogy 01-30-2008, 06:05 PM yeah i recognized my error pretty quickly. but i hate those threads.

mayday 01-30-2008, 07:27 PM Wow. Is that like a ruffley long skirt that he's wearing? hmmm. Would not have guessed he'd pull the skirts and such out for this show. But there we have it! Looks like Ginger is sporting a skin tight pants and top outfit and Jeff is blazin in his red suit. What did Jim wear?
The stripes are gone? Thank you good Lord above =)

My other guesses:

At least one of those four will be played at some point, guaranteed.

kitkat21 01-31-2008, 02:04 PM Billy in a skirt = pure sex :smoke:
btw. . .I thought he called it a "gauntlier". . or something to that effect. . .wasn't able to find it. . .
commando 01-31-2008, 02:05 PM Just that his machina dress was made by Gaultier, so that's what he called it...
billy in a dress gives me tingles down my spine

:)
topleybird 01-31-2008, 02:08 PM "Nice skirt," says Q, by way of friendly introduction. "It's not a skirt," he replies gruffly, pulling back the long flap to reveal two trousered legs. "It a Gaultier." Of course it is.
. . .
It is the final question, though, that ultimately pushes Corgan over the edge. Responding to the query, Who dresses you?, he suddenly flares, and the frown becomes a scowl. "What do you mean who dresses me? I dress me. What do you take me for? A drooling fucking idiot?" So no stylist, then? "That's right, no stylist." But there is a stylist waiting for him in the other room... "She," he intones with deadly seriousness, “is here for the photos, that's all.”

themadcaplaughs 01-31-2008, 04:59 PM Sounds like most of the reaction is extremely positive, and you can imagine why...Mayoniase, Lily (My One and Only), Behold! The Night Mare, The Everlasting Gaze, Porcelina of the Vast Ocean, Cash Car Star, and all those others songs in one night. Sound amazing!
commando 01-31-2008, 05:19 PM Porcelina makes it all worth it... however, night mare, lily, cash car, and the sheer show of brute force that is TEG is reason enough to anticipate a return to the U.S. and another go.

James Iha is so cool.
When I saw Jeff's red suit. I have to admit I did think of James and the various red suits that he's worn. But Jeff looks good in red suits too. I hope Ginger doesn't go with the see thru shirts though in the style of D'arcy during that phase. It doesn't leave enough to the imagination. though i can see how artistically it is beautiful. I just dont go for that.

It's 9,000% better than the white prison garb costumes.
I never said they weren't allowed to wear that stuff.
My point is that it's so uncreative to just flat out copy the 2000 outfits. Billy in the black dress, James... er, Jeff in the red suit, playing songs like Everlasting Gaze, Cash Car Star and Mayonaise. It just seems so... rehashed.
I just think it'd have been cooler if they broke out all these amazing oldschool songs with a NEW image, rather than one we already saw before.
It also just seems lame for Jeff to wear the same type of outfit James wore at the end of the 2000 shows. It's not like it's that they're both just Asian, or that they're both just the backup guitarists, or that it's that they both just have that shoe-gazer, quiet persona on stage. Now, they're both dressing the same.
You can't ignore the weirdness of Billy in a black dress and Jeff in an all-red suit. That combination isn't really... a coincidence, you know? What are the odds of that?

You can't ignore the weirdness of Billy in a black dress and Jeff in an all-red suit. That combination isn't really... a coincidence, you know? What are the odds of that?
Of course it's not a fucking coincidence. They did it on purpose because that was the band's image when they broke up and they're bleeding back into it purposely.
They hired Jeff and Ginger as replacements for the members who didn't re-join. It makes sense for them to wear the same costumes and take the same stage persona because that's the theme of the band. Off stage they're different people. That's their act.
If an actor for the main role in a play quits, wouldn't you, as the director, find someone who could fit the same role? And wouldn't this, by default, mean that you'll limit yourself to similar actors (similar looks, voice, etc.)?
I think they're allowed to go back to where the pumpkins ended and start from there without losing any creative credibility.

Billy needs to gain weight. He's very underweight. Certain medications or illegal substances can do that to a person. Also stress or emotional diistress can do that. Maybe he is on a med that he needs for something and it's a side effect. outside of that reason, i really hope he resolves his weight issue. Because as people as they get older there bones, there body, their brain.. etc. need vitamins to function optimally. actually whatever age you are you need to take care of yourself....
sigh...

oh! my bad. . .
I'm jealous of the photographer !
my little digital camera can't capture images like that.
My nikon d70 on the other hand. . .but it's not allowed /:
stumpycat 02-02-2008, 01:45 AM The embroidered patch on his guitar strap is most defnitely "nil set" whereas the logo on his shirt is the planet Saturn (not Jupiter or anything else.) I'm honestly trying to understand what this symbolism means to him, since the two symbols are completely unrelated. I can only guess the sci-fi theme ties in with their choice to dub this tour "the European landing."
The band seems to be giving off a different vibe now, though. Especially Billy. More like, uh...his old self?

pardon me how the ~FUCK~ do you know it's saturn, saturn is not the only planet with rings you know, it's just got the most prominent rings, and also does the concept of ambiguity mean anything to you. its all about how it can mean one thing to one person and another thing to someone else. stumpycat!
ben94gt 02-02-2008, 02:06 AM I hope they play Bodies. I know its been soundchecked, so b0lly needs to play it.
redbreegull 02-02-2008, 02:10 AM How the fuck did the crowd not go insane when they played Mayonaise? I would have jumped the stage, fallen to my knees, and wrapped my arms around Corgan's legs weeping.
june_soma 02-02-2008, 02:10 AM I agree with the weight obsessed people. He IS way too skinny.
But even so he looks good, and the pics made me smile. Hmm, do any of you ever touch your computer screen when it shows extra nice pics of Billy's face? I do. There. I've said it.
markpregen 02-02-2008, 02:18 AM How the fuck did the crowd not go insane when they played Mayonaise? I would have jumped the stage, fallen to my knees, and wrapped my arms around Corgan's legs weeping.
Yeah it would have been interesting to hear the crowd if he first broke out Mayonaise and the other "new old" songs in Chicago instead of Prague
JRiordan 02-02-2008, 02:31 AM Hmm, do any of you ever touch your computer screen when it shows extra nice pics of Billy's face? I do. There. I've said it.
mayday to thread.
Mablak 02-02-2008, 04:21 AM I think that saturn symbol is supposed to bear a resemblance to the zero with a slash in it.
(1/i)*(e^ix-cos(x))
edit: damn carrot symbol, oh well you know what I was trying to get at.
exactly! regardless of what it means it looks ambiguous. Thats the whole point. It looks like the type of thing that is open to interpretation.
slunken 02-02-2008, 11:01 AM exactly! regardless of what it means it looks ambiguous.
he looks like a character from a 1950's sci-fi flick and i mean that in the best possible way...hopefully his little skirt will make him stop trying to sing so manly

my thoughts exactly.
i think the best part of these shows is that billy has gone back annunciating consonants.

i second that
markpregen 02-03-2008, 01:54 PM ^look in the tour forum, but the setlist was identical to the other nights
fmrees 02-03-2008, 02:01 PM Yes. The setlist was the same...
fmrees 02-03-2008, 02:02 PM I am uploading some videos to YouTube and posted pictures in SmashingPumpkins.com

Porcelina, Rose March, and a few more which I am not sure what they are...
Sarcastic Smile 02-03-2008, 03:30 PM So I'm pretty jealous they got to here Mayonaise, just wanted to put that out there. Good for them their whole setlist was good.... I hope they play it again if they come back to the states.

I think slunken was being sarcastic. For example, people continue to get great footage of Today but we still haven't seen Stellar, despite it being played 4 nights in a row.
JRiordan 02-03-2008, 11:23 PM The only argument in defense of not taking videos of songs like Stellar is that they're new and you actually want to experience them, instead of worrying about your shitty quality cell phone / digital camera.
Sadly, this is probably not the true reason for the lack of videos.
fmrees 02-04-2008, 02:28 AM well, we record the stuff for our own pleasure, to watch back home and things like that... the only reason we share on YouTube is because maybe there will be people who like to see it... but I mean, I am not watching a show holding a camera in front of my face and thinking about what others could think... :banging:
yahooooooo, cool concert

there is no lack of videos believe me. You don't know but I know that someone has video recorded the whole Prague show. And since all the setlists are the same it will do :) I will ask him to youtube stellar :)
