Then work on your styles And despite the risk of being called a fanboy, here's my advice: do yourself a favour and go Mac. IWishIWasBlank 01-28-2008, 03:10 PM I would say practice as well. Only way it happens. Sigma 01-28-2008, 03:21 PM ??? Are you thinking of a specific song or passage? I like to think that my guitar vibrato is pretty good and I'm curious as to whether or not i might be able to replicate what you're talking about then explain how it's done. suncrashesdown 01-28-2008, 03:39 PM What about Billy's vibrato is so special? Can someone post a clip to what the hell is being talked about? tensionhead 01-28-2008, 03:42 PM What about Billy's vibrato is so special? Can someone post a clip to what the hell is being talked about? oh dont gimmie that "clipping" bs here too! ??? 01-28-2008, 04:26 PM oh i'm not trying to replicate bill's vibrato, i personally think mine is pretty good...but there's just something unique about billy's, i don't know what it is. its just got so much feeling in it without being cheesy or oversustained, although its probably got alot to do with his guitar tones too. you can hear it in virtually any solo he's ever played. nobody can play a solo like billy. BlissedandGone2 01-28-2008, 05:57 PM hes got great picking and finger technique thats for sure BlissedandGone2 01-28-2008, 05:58 PM Sigma 01-28-2008, 06:14 PM Actually, I wonder if a lot of it comes from Bending a note up to pitch from the fret below and then playing around with the extra tension you get that way. tensionhead 01-28-2008, 06:18 PM HHHHMMMMMMMM i wonder. warka - brought to you by kazimierz pulaski. sort of? suncrashesdown 01-28-2008, 06:26 PM You could tell Billy used to listen to a lot of fucking Van Halen stumpycat 01-29-2008, 12:00 AM Heh. Probably no coincidence that around the exact same time he shot that video with his friends he was also a senior highschool newspaper staff reviewing Van Halen's latest album. (It used to be on Laura's SP site...I don't know if it's still in the Starla.org archives somewhere or not.) IWishIWasBlank 01-29-2008, 08:19 AM Actually, I wonder if a lot of it comes from Bending a note up to pitch from the fret below and then playing around with the extra tension you get that way. This is hard enough in the first place, hard to get the note correct in the second place, and probably terribly difficult to vibrato without it sounding like shit. If this is his technique, I applaud B0lly. teh b0lly!!1 01-29-2008, 11:48 AM billy's vibrato is far from inimitable. i can do it all day long. i do agree that its pretty distinct, though. he just has a pretty prominent vibrato technique, its very not subtle - its just a pretty wide vibrato. its a question of how far does the bending (aka vibrato) goes, and how fast do you vibrate the note. and about the fingers - i think it does play a part. practice will make you better but some people just have it in their fingers. people with larger hands and fingers tend to have a better touch to their vibrato from what ive personally seen. |
