View Full Version : Which is the most underrated SP album?
Gossamer 01-19-2008, 11:09 AM Gish
Adore
Machina
Zeitgeist
I personally think they are all underrated among the masses but Machina is the most underrated with actual fans of the band.
Adore is overrated in that respect.
i_adore_adore 01-19-2008, 11:15 AM Adore is overrated in that respect.
No, it's not.
EDIT: And I voted Machina.
Mayfuck 01-19-2008, 11:25 AM none are over underrated or overrated.. siamese dream is rightfully canonized and MACHINA and Zeitgeist are rightfully mocked.
MeAndMyLlama 01-19-2008, 01:33 PM machina. it actually does stand up to the first four albums if you ask me
Charmbag 01-19-2008, 01:46 PM Machina - it's not that bad
RenewRevive 01-19-2008, 01:49 PM none are over underrated or overrated.. siamese dream is rightfully canonized and MACHINA and Zeitgeist are rightfully mocked.
you do like machina though, iirc.
Bleakest Harves 01-20-2008, 12:32 PM Zeitgeist...Adore is overrated, due to its failure to bring the rock, ahilst Machina is probably viewed in the correct light by most, i.e. as being 'meh'.
Cherub Angel 01-20-2008, 12:38 PM Voted Machina.
amar0331 01-20-2008, 12:54 PM None of the above. Machina II.
LazyLava 01-20-2008, 01:08 PM machina is better than it gets credit for...
Adore is great too(minus Shame imo)
Zeitgeist is blah
Adore is their best album (inc. SD + MCIS)...Gish is inconsistent, Machina has many shockers and Zeitgeist is only solid, too inoffensive.
My answer therefore is Adore.
slunken 01-20-2008, 01:33 PM machina - the live shows were downright scary
i_adore_adore 01-20-2008, 01:38 PM Adore is their best album
wilch 01-20-2008, 02:14 PM Machina. Why does everyone shit on it? WHY!?!?
the sellout 01-20-2008, 02:28 PM Adore. I have never seen Gish by underrated, it seems to go where it belongs on everyone's list.
If Billy had been smart and taken the best songs from the Machina Era in general (1, 2, Faeomm, others), not to mention made wayyy better production choices, it would have been as good as Siamese Dream methinks
slunken 01-20-2008, 02:30 PM If Billy had been smart and taken the best songs from the Machina Era in general (1, 2, Faeomm, others), not to mention made wayyy better production choices, it would have been as good as Siamese Dream methinks
I think that was the point?
I Don't Live 01-20-2008, 03:48 PM i voted gish because it seems like a lot of people don't ever even consider it as one of their top albums, which it is. Machina is a close second but i think its more of a nitch album
Corganist 01-20-2008, 04:10 PM I think the only album of these four that's underrated at all is Zeitgeist, though I halfway think that's just a product of it only having been out not even 6 months yet. I think in a while people will warm up to it a little bit and give it a fair rating. (Sort of like the way people seem to have warmed up to TFE lately).
Gish and Machina are both rated just about right to me. Most fans like Gish and at the least consider it to be a solid effort all around. And I think the "love it or hate it" reaction Machina gets is pretty spot on, as it is definitely the most uneven album in the SP catalog.
Adore, on the other hand, is very overrated by many big-time fans of the band (though it's perhaps slightly underrated by everyone else).
slunken 01-20-2008, 04:20 PM i think because adore is and was such a personal album (for both fans and billy himself) it's hard to judge it; it completely tips the scales.
yes both under-rated and over-rated (depending on who you're talking to)...i would consider adore to be the outlier of the band's catalogue if you had to say - which of these does not belong?
unlachs 01-20-2008, 06:14 PM None of the above. Machina II.
.
flyfire 01-20-2008, 08:16 PM Gish - at the time it didn't receive the recognition it deserved.
mayday 01-20-2008, 08:19 PM I think they are all in a way but my vote is Machina
reprise85 01-20-2008, 08:57 PM i love machina, and voted for it. but machina II is amazing and is extremely underrated
duovamp 01-20-2008, 09:06 PM MCIS. It can never get enough praise.
I'm serious.
june_soma 01-20-2008, 09:24 PM Machina. No contest. I have no idea what you people were crying about.
TuralyonW3 01-20-2008, 09:26 PM gish cuz a lot of younger fans don't give it the time of day
Chuck=Zero 01-20-2008, 10:48 PM MCIS. It can never get enough praise.
I'm serious.
Yeah, outside the SP fan community, the greatness of that album along with SP's stature at that time have long been forgotten.
slunken 01-20-2008, 10:53 PM gish cuz a lot of younger fans don't give it the time of day
haha that's why i voted machina just replace "younger" with "older":
machina cuz a lot of older fans don't give it the time of day
redbull 01-20-2008, 11:03 PM machina - the live shows were downright scary
the 2000 tour sucked (excepting feb/march)
CrabbMan 01-21-2008, 12:36 AM Siamese Dream is definitely the most underrated of their albums. The fact that it's not universally recognized as one of the greatest musical works ever means it's underrated.
ciGarski 01-21-2008, 12:56 AM page 2.
Where are siamese dream and mellon collie and the infinite sadness?
redbull 01-21-2008, 02:16 AM page 2.
quit derailing
and these are the kinds of awful thread you get under the new regime
ciGarski 01-21-2008, 11:08 AM shut the fuck up redbull, you have no pull here. get over yourself.
