jimmy is the reason i got into the pumpkins. i became so infatuated with his playing when i was young that i would listen to other bands and and say 'this would be better if jimmy played it.' i even began to hate a lot of music because the drumming was sub-par.
i started writing music in the hopes that i could find a drummer that would have as much of an impact as jimmy had on the pumpkins. writing is so much easier when you've got someone that good.

SlingeroGuitaro 01-15-2008, 06:28 PM i found a guy more like john bonham. he is really good but not nearly as exciting to me

I've been writing music and programming drum tracks as if someone as good as Jimmy Chamberlin were my drummer, which really backed me into a corner trying to find somebody who can actually play this shit. I've been finding out the hard way most available drummers play at about the equivalent "power and barre chord" level to us guitarists. THese guys can't even keep time on the left foot while they do anything else. Shameful.
ciGarski 01-15-2008, 07:41 PM adore.

same here. thankfully i've got a kit and have developed a very jimmyesque style of drumming, so i'm hoping that if i can't quite play on my own stuff i'll at least be able to get to the level of ability where i can show another drummer how its done.

june_soma 01-15-2008, 08:28 PM Are girls allowed here at all? You guys snuck into the girlie-thread... Oh and: Billy Corgan, Billy Corgan, Billy Corgan! Don't ban me. *sigh*
ciGarski 01-15-2008, 08:39 PM he's talking about jimmy's influence on him, musically. nothing ban worthy.
SlingeroGuitaro 01-15-2008, 08:39 PM just dont tell us youre girls ;)
girls=cooties
and yes. jimmy is a big influence on me. more than billy ever will be
june_soma 01-15-2008, 08:59 PM Cool, I won't tell. :) God, this banning threat sure sucks all the fun outta the threads. I loved reading your banter. Anyway, I read somewhere that Jimmy is the heart of the band, while Billy is the mind. Something about the heart pumping blood so the mind can function and get inspired, or similar. I thought it was a beautiful analogy. And true!
SlingeroGuitaro 01-15-2008, 09:15 PM did it mention the mind giving shitty ideas to the heart?
flyfire 01-15-2008, 09:23 PM bands with weak drummers aren't really bands at all. Totally agree - without Jimmy's drumming pumpkins would be so much less of a band.
ciGarski 01-15-2008, 09:32 PM adore.
flyfire 01-15-2008, 09:35 PM yeah okay, agreed. but with adore the abscence of Jimmy's was so marked that the record is such a point of difference.
flyfire 01-15-2008, 09:37 PM I guess what I'm saying is I would prefer adore with Jimmy.
ciGarski 01-15-2008, 09:38 PM jimmy's too much of a presence for an album like that.
flyfire 01-15-2008, 09:46 PM yeah and that's why I'd want to what he would have done differently. This of course is moot beacuse then we wouldn't have the aadore we have now.
SlingeroGuitaro 01-15-2008, 09:48 PM but he plays the adore songs so perfect... get it?
i mean live especially. perfect with that tambourine of his. classic.
flyfire 01-15-2008, 09:55 PM got it :)
tambourine is so hard to get right though, it's a very fine line between complementing the other instruments/voice and just cringeworthy.
SlingeroGuitaro 01-15-2008, 10:03 PM my comment was in response to ciGarski, actually. i think you and i would agree on the subject.
speaking of which, i pulled the garski trick in bed last night :D
flyfire 01-15-2008, 10:14 PM eh yeah, I shouldn't switch between threads so quickly.
ciGarski 01-15-2008, 10:44 PM speaking of which, i pulled the garski trick in bed last night :D
 no way dude! bring it to the gen board so we don't get banned
loser2d 01-15-2008, 11:01 PM sucks that the heart of the band has a weak heart
ciGarski 01-15-2008, 11:11 PM good call loser.
