It sounds like Billy, but I'm not sure if I believe it is...though I suppose it fits since he did work on the album.

Awesome album...for some reason albums where the artist creates a fake character work.

There's nothing in the Mechanical Animals booklet which credits Billy Corgan's involvement, and to be quite honest, I'm not sure to what extent these artists collaborated, or the extent of their friendship. Even recently Manson has mentionned that friends of his in Slayer, the Smashing Pumpkins, or the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, may somehow be involved in future collaborations.

I'm not discluding the possibility of the backing vocal because it does sound like Billy's voice along with Manson's, and a great deal of material Manson often intentionally chooses not to list in plain site for those to see, so it is certainly possible. That being said, I can't believe it until I see some proof of it, which, unfortunately, would require the official statement of either Manson or Corgan themselves.

Though the more I investigate Machina and note the similarities to Holy Wood and Mechanical Animals, I find it harder and harder to believe they had very limited contact with each other.

i don't have any doubt corgan had involvement in mechanical animals, but i never believed there was any vocal colaberation. i think that would have been credited.

This has come up a few times. There's a Rolling Stone interview somewhere that mentions Billy would only speak off-the-record about his involvement with the album, which is probably what started this kind of thread.

i don't know about the extent to which they worked together, but there are plenty of references to the two of them having been good friends at one point.

If Billy was credited as contributing vocals, would his record company have gotten involved? Wanting royalties?

with as much as he bitched about that Malibu album you would have most definitely hear him crying about Marilyn Manson. This never happened. He's a big cry baby, begging gerber food while his dad was getting high.

yep and he'd most likley need clearance to sing on something that has a commercial release - a formality but still required

There's lots of uncredited cameos on MA. Rose McGowan did extra vocals on Posthuman, and Dave Navarro did a solo on I don't like the drugs. Who knows.

Corgan's not too egocentric about getting credited. Remember: Johnny Goat producing The Frogs. Another example is the New Order album, where his vocals are credited (they're too indelible), but the guitar solo sounds a lot like him too; a guy who worked for Warners in 2001-2003 told me Corgan actually co-wrote three songs on "Get Ready".

That said, I remember a New Order interview where Peter Hook insinuated that New Order contributed to "the last Smashing Pumpkins album" (Machina).

A lot of this probably just has to do with record labels and money.
