I agree with whoever said something about "minus the first 5 seconds" or whatever. Same goes for Rose March. Take out the stupid terrible sounding intros and they would be better songs.

I don't understand why I'm telling you this, but if you want to get technical, Billy's voice is naturally nasal. Typically singers in a choir tend to have hallow sounding, or open voices. Their voices are rich, and so when blended together, sound nice, pleasant.

Billy's voice is like a lead guitar. It's scratching and nasal, and is good for melodies because it carries itself well over the rest of the song. But having a choir of lead guitars sounds pretty bad, because one scratching nasal voice is enough, but 4 of them is just annoying, it's too loud and you can't easily hear the rest of the notes well, if only because the stack of scratch is just too much.

As if that weren't bad enough, Billy tends to "punch" his utterances, so instead of "aaaaahhh" he sings "ACHaaaaaahhh". So stack 4 or more "ACHaaah"'s over eachother and you get "FHDJIAPOHVIAaaaahhh". In English, his attacks are too strong to sound nice in a choir of his own voice.

The funny thing is, I say things like that, but then I go and listen to (and enjoy) 3 albums worth of Nintendo Entertainment System OSVs.

Awesome, I'll check them out when i get home. I've been downloading .NES files for the longest time and playing them with meredian advance which is kind of a shitty program. I know there .gym and .spc for genesis and snes tracks but i cant find a good player for them, do yuo know of any?

I don't know maybe the rolling bass, haunting/dissonant verse guitars, waves of crashing metallic distortion in chorus/outro, thundering drums and outro's drum rolls just magnificient...

outro solo is prestine and violent.

Lyrics paint very vivid pictures; literally and figuratively.

Overall a throwback-type song that feels very fresh. Very comparable to "I of the Mourning" also a SP gem.

what you call haunting/dissonant verse guitars i call dated, overproduced cheesy tones from the mid 90s. and while i like old guitar tones usually the context is in a lo-fi setting which corgan is obviously not aiming for. so do you see the pointlessness in trying to 'prove' points on a largely subjective matter?

Well I USED to use orchnestra.com's mp3 rips. But that site went down, then came back, but the guy has yet to put the archives back online.

I haven't ripped any music or listened to the dumps with any player directly, so can't help ya there.

But let me tell you this, driving down the road with your windows open booming out Super Mario 2 gives you a great feeling.

My ears were poisoned long ago, so maybe that's why I disagree about BC's harmonies sounding like a chorus of dyring cats. Maybe we could find an example in MP3 form somewhere online, so we could compare the intro to a snippet of actual dying cats? Bleeding the Orchid = one of the worst and most overrated Zeitgeist songs.

It's a good song.

Also, if you blast Bleeding the Orchid on a good system, it sounds pretty tight, yo. Real bassy but lots of texture.
