according to an email i had waiting for me when i got home this fine evening (morning?), sent 11:20pm NY time, the pumpkins played at the NYC rock bar Snitch. Anyone care to confirm/deny this?

i have not been able to confirm yet, but a brief bit of googling reveals that Snitch has a surprise band every year for 200 people. i even tried drunk-dialing the venue but they didn't answer. probably still busy or just clean up crew at this point.

i found this info: http://eventful.com/events/music-new-years-eve-2008-snitch-21-/E0-001-007159461-4 -- but I don't see them ever playing that venue before in the spfc tour history when i filter by city=NYC.

either way, happy new years people!

Update: the Pumpkins played a 2000 show at a Venue in NYC we have listed as Chelsea Piers (link (http://www.spfc.org/tours/date.html?year=2000&date_display=0|150|0|||||0|0|0|0|0|0|0||)).

Wikipedia says Chelsea Piers is "Chelsea Piers Sports and Entertainment Complex is a 28-acre sports village located between 17th and 23rd streets along Manhattan’s Hudson River" (link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chelsea_Piers)).

This bar Snitch, is located in Chelsea on 21st Street, so thats probably the show being referred to when they SP has played there before.

still no confirmation on the 2007-12-31 show though...

Hrmmm details.

I wonder if they played under a different name. I know Pearl Jam has played under a different names at a small super secret suprise shows out in seattle.

I do expect that the pumpkins might play a couple of 'warm up' shows before they go off on their big tour..

hmmm...probably not an alternate name. sounds like from the info i saw online (if you folllowed the link in the first post) that part of the "schtick" of this place's annual NYE show is that you don't know who's going to show up until the night of.

kinda like those surpise concerts or whatever they used to have in the late 90's, remember? damn, who sponsored those again....

MGD suprise shows.

So this bar, these shows must be super hard to get into.

Do you have a list of bands that have showed up in the past?

I was told "new songs". I directed him to the American Gothic leak to check them out.

mgd, that's right.

all i have about past appearances is this blurb below, from the link in the first post and many others like it that come up on google, though its misleading because the last time I see that SP played Chelsea it was not a NYE show.

Chelsea's hottest Rock and Roll bar brings in the New Year in old school rock star style with a banging party. Past celebrities ******* Ashley and Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, Lindsey Lohan, Rosario Dawson, Tommy Lee, and Axl Rose.

You never know who might stop by as the clock ticks closer to the New Year with past performances by The Killers, Velvet Revolver, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Papa Roach, System of a Down, Korn, Smashing Pumpkins, and Cypress Hill.

Centered by a unique circular stage, the rocker vibe here compares to nothing else in the city. Snitch is the place to rock out with an amazing sound system roaring all night long and plenty of heavy-handed bartenders pouring drinks that will absolutely get your blood pumping. You'll be partying like a true rock star before the year is through.

Only 200 tickets will be sold, who needs the big crowds

Is it possible that this may have been a BC solo performance instead? Although, itís even more dubious that BC played an acoustic show at a packed bar to bring in the New Year.

They didn't play at Snitch. I think this was the show they played on a boat.

OK, just to clarify, Snitch is open. My friends played there in November and they are playing again at the end of this month. It is owned by some of the members of Velvet Revolver hence the larger named bands doing small surprise shows there. When I was there last they had a poster up advertising their new years show and it did say something to the effect that their would be special guests, but to me this does not seem like a place Billy would care to play based on his statements about not wanting to play clubs. In fact I don't think SP could fit all their equipment on that really tiny stage.
The 2000 show that is being referred to has nothing to do with Snitch. Snitch was not open in 2000 as far as I know. That show was on a boat that left from Chelsea Pier and was sponsored by Krock radio.
I may pass by Snitch tomorrow after work and if I do I will go in and ask someone.

thanks for the info. we'll keep the show listed as Chelsea Piers then.

Question is -- why the hell does that Snitch info on the web say SP has played there before?
