Gish08 12-31-2007, 11:31 PM There's a torrent of it on mininova as well... no seeds though, it's abandoned or something.

Frankenstein 01-01-2008, 12:27 AM it's three dollars and ninety six cents. though maybe that was their plan all along?
edit: full of black hole and anniversary nights...? wait now I'm confused.
BurtSampson 01-01-2008, 12:27 AM Where is the individual version?!
Should I just buy each song from the deluxe version?
skipgo 01-01-2008, 12:28 AM this sucks.
agreed. :(
not the usual pumpkins acoustic sound. i should've guessed.
i guess i'll give it time though.
aorta 01-01-2008, 12:30 AM I don't have a valid credit card at the moment. Anyone feel like being nice and posting some links??

it fucking rocks!!! you're totally missing out
Gish08 01-01-2008, 12:34 AM Rocks isn't quite the word. It's quite... folky?
BurtSampson 01-01-2008, 12:35 AM Of course, there are no Lisa/Ginger backing vocals, but Bill making stupid noises.
Frankenstein 01-01-2008, 12:36 AM Rocks isn't quite the word. It's quite... folky?
put up your dukes
BurtSampson 01-01-2008, 12:44 AM Yeah, this is...ok. Just OK. The residency songs were far better.
And POX is pretty fucking lame. I was hoping it would be Peace and Love.
skipgo 01-01-2008, 12:45 AM i really wanted to like this.
i didn't like DFA the first few times I heard it, and now it's one of my favorites of the newer songs, so maybe i'll change my mind at some point.
As for the Rose March, i much prefer the live version, but maybe just because it's what i'm used to hearing.
I prefer the simplicity of the tonight tonight b-sides when it comes to acoustic pumpkins.

I agree with all of this. It sounds too...busy. With the Residency songs and the old acoustics, it really sounded like it was just Billy and his guitar. This sounds like there is too much going on.
Waiting 01-01-2008, 12:49 AM Can someone upload these, please?! I will give head, virtually. :banging:
BurtSampson 01-01-2008, 12:52 AM Well, I just finished listening to it. That was highly disappointing all around. In fact, I liked Zeitgeist better than that.

tyguy666 01-01-2008, 12:57 AM will anyone share?

and already a backlash...
you beat us all to it BurtSampson ;)
is there a way i can get thepumpkins.net to upload my better version of the residency comp?
the one they are sharing is an mp3 transcode.... (I know, i put it together...)
Waiting 01-01-2008, 01:05 AM I just listened to the samples from Itunes and the songs really are too busy and a huge disappointment. Why could they have not been raw and not so... its just sad to see the band going down. To pumpkins.net it is.
enthusaroo 01-01-2008, 01:05 AM Will somebody please share? :(

It's not a matter of money. I'm quite sure everyone requesting it in this thread are either A) Not in the U.S, or B) Don't have a valid credit card. I'd like to listen to it and if it's good then purchase it when it becomes available just like I do with all new music.
It's still the holiday season, so I thought that someone would have the heart to give Netphorians the chance to download it. Anyone who puts it up to download would be a hero on here (for at least a few days ;)).

Still no excuse for the constant annoying begging.
Floppy Nono 01-01-2008, 02:01 AM i bought them and they aren't too bad, even good i would say. theres parts of them that sound great and interesting and then there are some parts that seem so bland i can't even believe it. he also ruined my favorite part of Rose March (the "i'll lay roses at your feet" part towards the end) but so far its been mostly a pleasurable experience to hear these songs. the crux sounds like a zwan song (a good one, that is) and pox just came on and i like it so far. I think it's worth the four bucks to anyone who seems on the fence about them, but thats just my opinion.
pox is pretty awesome, it's got a darker 90's feel to it. "Every angel sleeps somewhere/sometimes" (i believe he changes the last word in the song towards the end)
sunkissed is pretty ho hum and sing-songy, the Pomp and Circumstances of this EP for sure. i think i need to give it another listen when im more awake
Frankenstein 01-01-2008, 02:05 AM upload it

Gossamer 01-01-2008, 02:17 AM I don't have it because I refuse to pay for drm music.
Doesn't mean I wouldn't share it if I had it.
The file is probably under 25 mb's it would take less than 10 minutes to upload.
This thing has been available on itunes for a good 3 hours now and plenty of people here have it so I don't see why no one is sharing.

rose march and pox are the best. how do I go about converting them for you?
Floppy Nono 01-01-2008, 02:23 AM such animosity over four bucks worth of songs.
Gossamer 01-01-2008, 02:25 AM what is the point of hoarding them when you can very easily share them with the rest of the community?
idk, I don't mean to sound like a dick but I just got home from a party and honestly the first thing on my mind was to come here and hear the new ep.
i don't get why people are not sharing when it would take less than 10 minutes of your time.
BurtSampson 01-01-2008, 02:25 AM The more important issue is that I have $1.05 left on my iTunes gift card. What should I buy from the B-Sides and Rarities collection? I'm thinking either Infinite Sadness or Never Let Me Down Again.

Gossamer 01-01-2008, 02:58 AM This is the plot synopsis:
an army major awakens in a small room with no idea of who he is or how he got there. He finds four other people in the same room, and they all begin to question how they each arrived there, and more importantly, how to escape.
tyguy666 01-01-2008, 02:59 AM looks like 2008 is going to be full of hoarders and cheapskates haha
Gossamer 01-01-2008, 02:59 AM I remember that in 7th grade I had this awesome math teacher that all we had to do was mention the twilight zone and he would go off track for a good 30 minutes talking about random episodes.

enthusaroo 01-01-2008, 03:15 AM There's an issue with converting.
Someone who's downloaded these songs to their iTunes... all you need to do is download this program: http://hymn-project.org/download.php
And then you can convert from the DRM .m4p format to .mp3. Sorry guys. I tried. But I don't have the right permissions under iTunes to convert these files. So a person who actually downloaded the songs will need to do the conversion. Doh!
Gossamer 01-01-2008, 03:17 AM i could honestly convert these things in seriously less than 1 minute if somebody sent me the fucking files already

The Melty Man 01-01-2008, 03:46 AM I completed a survey for iTunes ages ago, before iTunes Plus, and I told them I thought it was shit because it was full of DRM and had low quality audio (128 kbps). I also told them I was much more likely to go and buy a CD than buy music from the store. How that has changed since iTunes Plus arrived. I hate going to record stores. Balls to them though for not having any Radiohead, Beatles or Cold Chisel.
cork_soaker 01-01-2008, 03:47 AM it's sort of a little of this and that with some other sounds and different takes on things and sounds

darcyismybass 01-01-2008, 05:14 AM What's with the first song? That doesn't sound like Jim on drums.
Spaldz 01-01-2008, 05:28 AM That first song is awesome...Sounds like Billy's vocals are a bit more in line with the rest of the music.
Spaldz 01-01-2008, 05:30 AM Pox is a lot like God & Country. I felt like he wanted to go into Winterlong at one point though.
darcyismybass 01-01-2008, 05:33 AM How is it that the song with the shittiest name is the best one on this EP?
Future Boy 01-01-2008, 05:34 AM only 25% is worth a shit. At least he's become consistent.
DoomsdayRocket 01-01-2008, 05:36 AM best release of 2008, so far...

stephen_bayne 01-01-2008, 05:54 AM Thanks for link M. Night.
I quite liked it. The only song that didn't really do anything for me was The Crux.
Heat6Jones 01-01-2008, 06:04 AM Anyone sharing?

I really like this, but I refuse to buy it from Itunes, i'll buy it tomorrow at a shop instead :)
Wasabi 01-01-2008, 06:26 AM again^3 is ... moderately tolerable.
I wish I knew with any degree of certainty that this was going to be 'in a shop' so I could get a hard-copy to compile further 'master-editions' of the zeitgeist monstrosity

It's not iTunes's fault they don't have those bands. Either the band or their label has refused to licence iTunes to sell the music.
Good work complaining about the DRM. It is horrible. It's also nice to have the higher bitrate, but 98% of people can't distinguish between 128kbps and CD quality, so the extra data doesn't noticable improve anything unless the listener is actively trying hard to spot a difference.
wilch 01-01-2008, 06:57 AM *headdesk*
son of a bitch billy, OPENING FUCKING CONSONANTS!?!!!!!
ya this pisses me off to is it painful for him to make a harsh fucking consonant?
wilch 01-01-2008, 07:00 AM and its a travesty to call it an acoustic EP
stipeman 01-01-2008, 07:04 AM Could someone post a link for an MP3 of American Gothic? I can't download the RAR file link posted here. Thanks and happy new year
Cheers for the link!
Downloading now :)
enthusaroo 01-01-2008, 07:12 AM Thank you for the link!
Here is my list (from favorite to worst)
1. Rose March (best song) :)
2. Pox (good) :|
3. Sunkissed (might take a few listens) :|
4. Again, Again, Again (The Crux) (yuck!) :(
wilch 01-01-2008, 07:14 AM again, again, again sounds like Times Like These by the Foo Fighters
Endar 01-01-2008, 07:19 AM thx M.Night, not bad
Im getting Zwan flashbacks from 'Again, Again, Again' and 'Sunkissed'
I liked Zwan though so thats cool :)
Is it me, or do the drums in every song sound like they werent played by Jimmy?
Not a bad EP, I'd prefare something like this over Zeitgeist :banging:
kingflupps 01-01-2008, 07:51 AM Overall I like the e.p but just like Zeitgeist some of the songs have a choral billy bit that makes me cringe. The opening guitar to The Rose March is absolutely stunning and then...... "La la la la fucks sake!" Jimmy needs to have a word with him about this coz its getting out of control. The quality of The Rose March still washes this small annoyance away but like Zeitgeist its these small things that prevent true greatness. If they had recorded 'Sunkissed' like the song 'Zeitgeist' then it would be really beautiful but it has that galloping guitar hammer-on which is really hard to ignore. 'Pox' is strange, I can't decide if its just not a good song or its going to grow on me, fingers crossed its the later. Its too early to tell but hopefully A.G will be a grower, but hey its new pumpkins material and its not shite.
cardiac 01-01-2008, 08:04 AM I'm having a hard time deciding if I like this or not. Once again the vocal production is fairly horrible and I'm not feeling the lyrics at all.
However..
- Electric guitars overall sound gorgeous here. Especially Again Again Again
- Rose March 3:40 forwards. Perfect reminder of why I love this band.
- Jimmy
- The darker feel in Pox. Nice bass there
I shall give this a few more listens. The first time around it sounded disappointing, but now once I'm past the vocals being what they are, I'm beginning to enjoy it.
somaziro 01-01-2008, 09:21 AM this is horrible
somaziro 01-01-2008, 09:27 AM seriously horrible
duovamp 01-01-2008, 09:29 AM In for the upload.
The Melty Man 01-01-2008, 09:34 AM It's not iTunes's fault they don't have those bands. Either the band or their label has refused to licence iTunes to sell the music.
These are probably the same labels that complain that everyone illegally downloads their music.... all because they won't put it up for sale on iTunes.
BABY_i 01-01-2008, 09:41 AM Thanks for the download, Sunkissed was corrupted - anybody else find this?
duovamp 01-01-2008, 09:52 AM It seems like he had a decent starting point for these songs, recorded them with just an acoustic guitar, and then went over them and added way too much... They would've been nice if left simple. Especially [The] Rose March... :(
hnibos 01-01-2008, 09:54 AM :( im falling out of love with this band.
sunkissed and again are such rubbish.
the mahatma 01-01-2008, 09:59 AM fuck
fuck
chorus upon chorus of billys REMAINS.
why does he think that sounds good?
some of this is okay though, the end of rose march is beautiful
if pox was electric, it would be the best "rocker" they've released since the reunion.
anndrix 01-01-2008, 10:05 AM I could commit myself to find something I like about this EP, but I think that my overall impression would remain: totally boring :/
You Said 01-01-2008, 10:15 AM BILLY CORGAN IS A QUEER!
Sarcastic Smile 01-01-2008, 10:17 AM eww..maybe i will warm up to it..i only listened to the previews because I want to order the actual cd...but at first listen im not into it at all. what is going on?. oh, im so sad.. what a bummer

thanks a lot!
Rose March background vocals are bad.. i will get use to it, but i dont like it right now.. but it for the most part still sounds like what i heard at the Fillmore
MonteLDS 01-01-2008, 10:39 AM Again x3 reminds me of Zwan mixed w/ AoI
Pox sounds like nothing i have heard from SP
duovamp 01-01-2008, 10:40 AM There's a huge Zwan vibe with it, but I didn't want to say anything...
DougieZero 01-01-2008, 10:41 AM Why didn't he use Ginger or Lisa as additional vocals? Does the Itunes stuff have credits? I wouldn't be surprised if it was just Jimmy and Billy.
MonteLDS 01-01-2008, 10:42 AM it is just billy and jimmy
TimeZoneChecker 01-01-2008, 10:43 AM good ep. Anyone else thinks Sunkissed sounds great? sounds djali zwan, and i really like the production here, the production of rose march in contrast is quite bad i think, vocally, don't really like that song it's the least imo
Again again is very Zwan but has a good part at 2'58"
Again again 5/10
Rose MArch 5/10
POX 8/10
Sunkissed 10/10
DougieZero 01-01-2008, 10:46 AM it is just billy and jimmy
Damn... They recorded in LA I think... I'm pretty sure Jeff, Lisa and Ginger were in the neighborhood.
MonteLDS 01-01-2008, 10:46 AM I think that Sunkissed reminded me of that song from zwan "Heartsong"
POX was the only thing that kind of got me interested...
MonteLDS 01-01-2008, 10:47 AM Damn... They recorded in LA I think... I'm pretty sure Jeff, Lisa and Ginger were in the neighborhood.
most likely they don't want to add them yet to the record.. imho i don't think they will be added to the band name. unless their is a live release
You Said 01-01-2008, 10:50 AM most likely they don't want to add them yet to the record.. imho i don't think they will be added to the band name. unless their is a live release
plus it means two more people that bill has to split the whole $4 with.
nofix 01-01-2008, 10:55 AM The idea of this being an acoustic, studio recording led me to believe the tracks wouldn't be over-processed, and layered with vocal trackings. The songs aren't bad, but they're not exactly what I expected.
The Rose March is heavily processed, and doesn't hold a candle to the emotional, raw, simplistic residency version(s).
Pox does not sound like the Pumpkins, at all, other than the vocals. The tune reminds me Days of The New : Touch Peel Stand. Least favorite of the bunch.
Sunkissed has odd vocals, Zeitgiest vocals - if you will. Not a bad track, but nothing special here.
Again, Again, Again ... Again, Zeitgesit vocals ruin an otherwise decent sounding track.
Expectations weren't met. Oh well. Here's hoping for '08.
anndrix 01-01-2008, 10:55 AM You have the best avatar I've seen in a long time
thanks!
Damn... They recorded in LA I think... I'm pretty sure Jeff, Lisa and Ginger were in the neighborhood.
American Gothic was produced by Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin, with one song co-produced by Roy Thomas Baker. The songs were recorded at the Pass Studio in Los Angeles, CA while the Pumpkins were on a break between their 2007 national tour and upcoming 2008 European tour.

ryoga 01-01-2008, 10:59 AM The Again, Again, Again song is also from the Pete Townshend gig. I wonder if all of them were written back in 2006.
MonteLDS 01-01-2008, 11:00 AM i wouldn't doubt that most of these songs were written in 2006 and some how were kept.. either way this EP isn't the best thing from SP.
SP started on the wrong foot for 2008
atombomb 01-01-2008, 11:01 AM The Again, Again, Again song is also from the Pete Townshend gig. I wonder if all of them were written back in 2006.
How do you know this?
ryoga 01-01-2008, 11:02 AM from the lyrics
emotionalfriend 01-01-2008, 11:38 AM either way this EP isn't the best thing from SP.
did you really expect it to be?
Shallow 01-01-2008, 11:56 AM it would be cool, to have the lyrics
could someone figure them out pleaaase?:erm:
Olivier 01-01-2008, 11:58 AM Or you could do it, god willing.
areyougaffney? 01-01-2008, 12:07 PM so which one did RTB produce...the rose march I assume?
somaziro 01-01-2008, 12:12 PM you want a real acoustic album for 2008, download that New Tour Songs 2007 acoustic compilation that was put together awhile back... that is waaaayyyyy >>>>>>>> than american gothshit
skipgo 01-01-2008, 12:14 PM my comments last night were based on listening to previews on itunes. After downloading the full songs, i'm still disappointed. :(
i kind of like sunkissed, it's not bad. or should i say "ot ad". Fuck, billy, this aversion to consonants is completely maddening...
again, again, again i do not like; pox i like even less.
Rose March is a good song and this recording has its moments, but i'd rather listen to the live version.
seriously, what's with the consonants? I've never been more annoyed with bc than i am when i hear one of his many dropped consonants. I was hoping that this was just some weird quirk he'd picked up when singing live; i can't believe his brought this terrible new habit of his into the studio.
i'm pretty sure i'll only ever listen to half of this ep, and even that won't be very often.
Rickpat12 01-01-2008, 12:14 PM I don't know. I think like a lot of SP's work, you NEVER know what you're gonna get. And I think musically, no one was expecting this, in that sense I think it's a bit original. Not groundbreaking original, but still I think it's kind of out there. I personally like it on first listen, but I won't love it until more. Overall not bad at all, nice work Billy. I think the vocals are great, he's singing with a lot more emotion than on Zeitgeist!
Electron52 01-01-2008, 12:18 PM I like it, but the drums sound like shit on again again again. i like the songs. they need someone else to record the drums though. All in all, nice work SP! It's a nice change from the 'let's be as heavy as we can' stuff they have been doing lately.
skipgo 01-01-2008, 12:18 PM i almost feel bad when i say something negative about new sp material. Like I'm one of "those people" who doesn't support them when they do something different. But man, I really WANTED to love this. Who knows; Machina finally got me, even if it took 7 years to do so. I've always loved their so-called "failure" Adore; and I like Zeitgeist pretty much as well. I've done my share of support, so I guess I shouldn't feel bad when I just don't like something. Billy's comments about fans who don't support them no matter what make me feel like i'm betraying a friend or something. Damn you Corgan, for making me feel guilty.
AnnMarie727 01-01-2008, 12:22 PM i really like again again (i really like the energy in this song) and rose march. and sunkissed. pox isnt do anything for me right now
AnnMarie727 01-01-2008, 12:24 PM i wouldnt feel bad skipgo. there are songs i dont really strike my fancy either but that doesn't change the way i feel about the band.
MonteLDS 01-01-2008, 12:31 PM so i have been listening to these songs all day, and pox is still the only song that makes me say "hmm what is this?" the rest makes me feel like i am listening to Old Zwan era songs.
But the rose march is a mix of that and fillmore
somaziro 01-01-2008, 12:32 PM I don't feel different about the band, except that I am very skeptical about anything that comes out of the studio from them.... The actual songs are good, the live version of Rose March, Pomp, God and Country, Starz are testament to that... They have just be sucking it in the studio with all their production wankery.
i_adore_adore 01-01-2008, 12:34 PM I dunno what to think. I was so excited I was going to get an acoustic EP, and what do I get? This.
Okay, so I've only listened to the previews so far, but my God, Billy! WHY did he ruin "The Rose March" when I specifically said, "He better not ruin 'The Rose March'!"
I've just grown attached to the live version, I guess. I just wanted a high-quality version of what he played live at the residencies, not... whatever this is.
I guess I'll just buy the whole songs and see if they get better.
:(
Phoenix Down 01-01-2008, 12:34 PM this EP is rubbish. fuck yourself billy corgan.
MonteLDS 01-01-2008, 12:35 PM it hit me Sunkissed reminds me of "If All Goes Wrong"
atombomb 01-01-2008, 12:36 PM I think the Rose march fits really well between ma Belle and for god and country, can't find a place for the others though...
atombomb 01-01-2008, 12:37 PM yep - I thought sunkissed was if all goes wrong when i heard the opening chords. I like the track though second after rose march
Rickpat12 01-01-2008, 12:38 PM I think Pox can be one of the best things they've done since returning to the music scene. It's dark and has an old vibe to it.
Corgan Rules 01-01-2008, 12:43 PM I really like Again, again, again a lot! It is my favorite of the 4 new songs here. I know that these songs aren't Billys best but it's just nice to see them making new music. We will all be fine if Billy and Jimmy continue to make music. I like these new songs for what they are....mostly acoustic songs. Im happy hearing them but they did the right thing by not putting on their new LP whenever it does come out. Im sure that Billy and Jimmy both knew that this wasn't their best material but they wanted to get some acoustic stuff out there for fans.
MonteLDS 01-01-2008, 12:47 PM So would it be right to assume now that this EP is out that Zeitgeist failed. 2 singles and out!
cardiac 01-01-2008, 12:50 PM I actually really like the production apart from the backing vocals. Why on earth would he not use Lisa/Ginger for those? I'd rank this 8/10 if it weren't for the utter gayness that is Bill's current studio vocal overdubs
paranoid 01-01-2008, 12:51 PM the non pronouncing of consonants drives me fucking mad too.. literaly i shout out "stop that!" everytime he does it.
WHY WHY WHY the FUCK has he started doing that? WHY? it is beyond annoying.
i_adore_adore 01-01-2008, 12:52 PM So like, I'm ready to illegally download it now. But what's all this about an RAR file? I dunno what the heck to do with it.
Someone wanna help a sister out? Let me just tell you that I'm going to buy the physical CD when it's out, but I just want to hear the full songs. So don't give me your guilt trip, "It's only $4" bull. I'm gonna buy it. I just wanna download the songs right now.
MonteLDS 01-01-2008, 12:52 PM Why on earth would he not use Lisa/Ginger for those?
isn't it obvious? He only wants to have d'arcy and james singing backup on sp songs
I'm part of the minority here who thinks American Gothic is pretty good. As usual it wasn't what I was expecting, but I like it. I've gotten used to billy's backing vox so it doesn't strike me as odd as it did when I first heard zeitgeist. The Rose March is excellent.
MonteLDS 01-01-2008, 12:54 PM i_adore_adore PM me for a zip
waltermcphilp 01-01-2008, 12:55 PM So like, I'm ready to illegally download it now. But what's all this about an RAR file? I dunno what the heck to do with it.
