Well Zwan anyway. I've just written a mini series called He Kills Coppers and (rights permitting) we're using the cover of Number of the Beast over a climactic battle between police and hippies at Stonehenge. Rock on!

did you get your computer fixed? :(

skipgo
12-20-2007, 09:27 AM
getting the drive replaced after work today. thankfully it's under warranty, so i'm not out any $$. If I had $100 to spare, he'd recover my lost data for me. If they let me hang onto the dead drive rather than having to send it back to apple, I'll pay to do that at some point in the future. Thanks for thinking of me pal. :)

man that blows, but i'm glad its getting fixed. hopefully you can recover the data later. thats a shitty process to go through

i'm just sad that i lost the song i was working on :(
maybe i can get it all back though, I'll keep my hopes up for it.

this is a lesson to me to always use my external drive for my music. I should've been doing that anyway.

SlingeroGuitaro
12-20-2007, 09:40 AM
what kind of hard drives do you use? ive got a few lacie quadras, but they have crapped out a couple times lately, and was looking into something else. any suggestions?

oh yeah. hooray for zwan licensing

Ooh, yeah. That's crucial. I had an extra drive to keep my recordings (project files and finished WAVs and whatnot), but I had let my recording software save the audio data to the default location rather than the folders I made on the other drive. So, when my Windows partition had a severe hiccup one day and I had to reinstall it, I forgot to copy the audio data over and lost everything. :( I mean, I still had the songs and project files, but it didn't do me any good to work on them because I lost the individual tracks. So now I've got a 500GB SATA drive where all that stuff goes directly, lol.

Actually, I don't think I've really touched Windows much since then.

Also, to answer SlingeroGuitaro, Western Digital is great and Maxtor is good too.

Western Digital makes the MyBook which works great on Mac and Windows.

If he is only charging you 100$ to recover the data then it must not be that hard to recover the data. You would be better off just buying a copy of spin right for 80% and doing it yourself. I always feel like I"m ripping off people for PC repair, but man I really need to charge more. 100$ to recover data, damn.

i have 1 mybook, but it doesn't write fast enough. i guess i should have specified- i use the harddrives as a recording medium, not just to back stuff up. i have an 80g maxtor that i have had for about 6 years. i think i paid close to $200 for it then.

Might want to look into replacing that drive. 6 years is getting towards the end of the life span of any drive.

haha, i just have random pictures on it. i dont use it for anything important, i'm just proud that i do still have it and it still functions. i thought it was so fast, being a firewire drive and all

I have a 30 mb drive that came in a pc I bought about 15 years ago that still works perfectly. Every now and then I'll use it if I'm having trouble getting a PC to boot.

we haven't cut one yet - we're still editing the films. re: working with billy that was kind of a joke - in reality of course it's just a conversations between lawyers about a track thats five years and nothing remotely like working with billy. still if we get to use the song I'll be a happy man because it's not often producers listen to scriptwriters.

Close. I was accused of somehow stealing it from Lester Cohen. I was simply given it on the hub and posted it on the hub message board asking if anyone knew what it was. It was really shitty over reaction by Billys people. And Lester was a major asshole, trying to cover his own ass and protect his job. Now that I have seen what they did to the kids who took the pictures I have no doubt that they would have tried to arrest people if they had ever found out who leaked it.

If it was a mini stonehenge id understand where the working with billy would come in but im lost.

Nigel Tufnel: In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history, an ancient race of people... the Druids. No one knows who they were or what they were doing...

...

David St. Hubbins: I do not, for one, think that the problem was that the band was down. I think that the problem *may* have been, that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being *crushed* by a *dwarf*. Alright? That tended to understate the hugeness of the object.
Ian Faith: I really think you're just making much too big a thing out of it.
Derek Smalls: Making a big thing out of it would have been a good idea.

...

Ian Faith: Nigel gave me a drawing that said 18 inches. Now, whether or not he knows the difference between feet and inches is not my problem. I do what I'm told.
David St. Hubbins: But you're not as confused as him are you. I mean, it's not your job to be as confused as Nigel.
