View Full Version : BILLY NEW BLOG: NEW EP SP MediaMilitia 12-19-2007, 09:47 AM Happy Tuesday Kahlo 12-19-2007, 09:48 AM foad Cherub Angel 12-19-2007, 09:49 AM either you're being cryptic, or you're high. Potentially both. It's Wednesday. exactlythesame 12-19-2007, 09:49 AM oh my god, it's like, totally wednesday Kahlo 12-19-2007, 09:49 AM He is high on mysticism and the smell of tarot readers Kahlo 12-19-2007, 09:50 AM SP go on to announce something big on a Tuesday, SP Media Militia is proven a god. Ego recieves points. Self loathing creeps in. MisterSquishyHalo 12-19-2007, 09:52 AM Happy Tuesday Another cryptic message? Give us the details now. MisterSquishyHalo 12-19-2007, 09:53 AM XYU!!!!!!!111! Kahlo 12-19-2007, 09:54 AM Machina Mystery = Tuesday Kahlo 12-19-2007, 09:56 AM I emerge from my seemingly eternal self-imposed silence to bring good news! The collective We is happy to announce that We have just finished a new acoustic e.p. entitled 'American Gothic' that features 4 new songs: * The Rose March * Again, Again, Again (the crux) * POX * Sunkissed Even better is the news that these songs will be available on i-tunes starting January 2nd...the collective We looks forward to you hearing these new songs afresh and us playing them to you anew on the upcoming European and Australian tours... Since the holidays are upon us, the collective I would like to take this opportunity to give gratitude where it is due, and that is to those that are not hypnotized, or so numbed by darkness that they cannot hear the chime in my words...I wish you a warm holiday and a brilliant New Year to come, and may you get all you deserve! (again) From my heart to yours, sincerely, I hope you feel the love that we have for all of you, even for those of you who are lost and seeking, bruised and still keeping...i hope these words find you as well... The new day has finally come as we turn the corner on the end of one energy that no longer serves us and begin to embrace the new dawn that will...and no, I am not speaking about the band or the music business...what is past is passed, and we all wear the black arm bands in honor of, but life happily, as it should, marches on...hopefully to a good beat... Thanks to New Orleans for showing Us the meaning of hope...and thanks to the old guard for showing the same dull move, you know the one that never works? Art band that said old guard wishes they were in so bad that they wish importance upon it? Check! No matter what you crutches all dream up, Led Zep is still a 100 times better! Go Zep! Go Team! Rock on! Long Live the Mighty SP! And... Thank YOU for showing up! And yes, I mean YOU :) lovingness, happiness, BC http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/blog exactlythesame 12-19-2007, 09:56 AM Corgan never ceases to confound us. The song titles are choice (much better than Zeitgeist's) and although I would have picked a different Residency song to in<clu>clude, The Rose March isn't bad. SlingeroGuitaro 12-19-2007, 09:58 AM check the blog section of smashingpumpkins.com Kahlo 12-19-2007, 10:00 AM Wonderfull we are getting a new EP :) also: See he read my post in which I said "Led Zep are a 100 times better live" he does love us Merry christmas! Kahlo 12-19-2007, 10:01 AM Its like TPQ MK 2 that said, I would do the same T&T 12-19-2007, 10:01 AM billy is so sweet. SlingeroGuitaro 12-19-2007, 10:01 AM so lets get this started. ahem... where's the leak? rolmos 12-19-2007, 10:01 AM http://forums.netphoria.org/showthread.php?t=154584 lock. exactlythesame 12-19-2007, 10:02 AM where's the leak? The collective We demands to know! mpp 12-19-2007, 10:03 AM fuck yeah Skradgee 12-19-2007, 10:04 AM those Apple jerks must have it! deadaswarhol 12-19-2007, 10:04 AM the cover/picture there is terrible MisterSquishyHalo 12-19-2007, 10:05 AM Nice Acoustic EP? I'm down. rolmos 12-19-2007, 10:05 AM Great news, I hope it's not ONLY available at iTunes, though. I wonder who WE inlcudes. Kahlo 12-19-2007, 10:05 AM I think this is the start of something good he didn't mention God once... deadaswarhol 12-19-2007, 10:06 AM i wonder how long until they release it AGAIN but on cd with some other shit hha. should be good though Kahlo 12-19-2007, 10:07 AM Billy isn't daft. He knows it will go on to torrent sites moments after itunes.. the 'fans have to buy 50 versions' argument is pretty dumb T&T 12-19-2007, 10:08 AM http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/gallery/pics/american_gothic.jpg hmmm Billy isn't daft. He knows it will go on to torrent sites moments after itunes.. the 'fans have to buy 50 versions' argument is pretty dumb your mistake is you give people too much credit. common sense isn't common. gbeaks33 12-19-2007, 10:08 AM This is pretty cool, I didn't think it would be out so soon. I'd still like that studio version of gossamer, but I think I'd like this more. Too much zeitgeist stuff has been shoved down our throats. redhawk 12-19-2007, 10:09 AM I would love it, if they did this sort of thing from now on. Release about 4 to 6 songs every six months to a year, instead of releasing an album's worth every 2 to 3 years. I hope this also leads to less production in the end. After listening to Machina again this morning, I again realized how overproduced it sounded. rolmos 12-19-2007, 10:09 AM So, will this be better than watermelonclip's poop? Kahlo 12-19-2007, 10:10 AM http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/gallery/pics/american_gothic.jpg hmmm I like the cover and the SP font, but the 'American Gothic' font ruins it. Reminds me of Sonic Youth for some reason (the cover) deadaswarhol 12-19-2007, 10:11 AM Billy isn't daft. He knows it will go on to torrent sites moments after itunes.. the 'fans have to buy 50 versions' argument is pretty dumb how does that mean they won't put it out on cd later? Stellar was "i-tunes exclusive" at first, too. ended up on torrent sites right after. then hey it's on the best buy thing. it's no big deal, i can just see them doing a few of these then later putting them all on a cd. T&T 12-19-2007, 10:12 AM After listening to Machina again this morning, I again realized how overproduced it sounded. then download the premastered version people are very pleased with that one (see trading forum) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BTQWTJ49 Bleakest Harves 12-19-2007, 10:13 AM Awesome news, can't wait. deadaswarhol 12-19-2007, 10:13 AM After listening to Machina again this morning, I again realized how overproduced it sounded. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v12/sprinkles/Hooray2.gif Kahlo 12-19-2007, 10:14 AM how does that mean they won't put it out on cd later? I never said they wouldn't...so you don't have an argument there. I would put money on it that it will later reappear on several formats. deadaswarhol 12-19-2007, 10:15 AM i'm confused what your original problem with what i said was then?? MisterSquishyHalo 12-19-2007, 10:16 AM I think this is the start of something good he didn't mention God once... Agreed. But I also noticed he sounded pretty happy. I hope not happy enough where he writes crappy songs..but maybe happy enough to play more classics :) SP MediaMilitia 12-19-2007, 10:17 AM sorry I've been up for a long time it IS wednesday >X-P exactlythesame 12-19-2007, 10:19 AM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v12/sprinkles/Hooray2.gif Honestly, I didn't think Heath Ledger could pull off the Joker, but after watching the previews, by God, he's the scariest iteration of the character yet. Kahlo 12-19-2007, 10:19 AM go to bed and get some sleep! You crazy Pumpkin people SlingeroGuitaro 12-19-2007, 10:19 AM you and me both! I'm just relieved it isnt Thursday! leena 12-19-2007, 10:19 AM The new day has finally come as we turn the corner on the end of one energy that no longer serves us and begin to embrace the new dawn that will...Huh? and thanks to the old guard for showing the same dull move, you know the one that never works? Art band that said old guard wishes they were in so bad that they wish importance upon it? Check!Huh? What's Billy trying to say here? I feel like reading one of Courtney Love's blogs. Eurm... The collective? http://filebox.vt.edu/users/efalwell/posters/12.jpg Oh well. New EP is still cool. Kahlo 12-19-2007, 10:20 AM Billy is voting for Putin. billy is a commie. smashkin33 12-19-2007, 10:20 AM So, will this be better than watermelonclip's poop? i'll hear the ep then decide. for some reason, i'm still really into have a physical album to hold in my hand, i like going to purchase CDs for some reason. but i'll settle for these new-fandangled itune downloads. beggars can't be choosers i suppose. SlingeroGuitaro 12-19-2007, 10:21 AM ive got a friend who is a huge batman fan, and hates Tim Burton's renditions because 'ITS NOT LIKE THE COMIC OMG!!!' he loved 'batman begins' because it followed pretty closely. i asked him what he thought of the joker in this. he could only say 'its still better than Burton...' leena 12-19-2007, 10:21 AM I like the cover and the SP font, but the 'American Gothic' font ruins it. My thoughts :erm:. exactlythesame 12-19-2007, 10:22 AM I think he's saying something about the record labels or the promotional department for their tour or something. I'm not quite sure what he's referring to with 'old guard,' but I do know that he's talking about it in a cynical manner. exactlythesame 12-19-2007, 10:23 AM i'll hear the ep then decide. for some reason, i'm still really into have a physical album to hold in my hand, i like going to purchase CDs for some reason. but i'll settle for these new-fandangled itune downloads. beggars can't be choosers i suppose. It's still lossy and you'd still have to transcode over to something else for any device that doesn't play AAC. threetwooneZERO 12-19-2007, 11:27 AM Nice Acoustic EP? I'm down. Yeah, we'll see.... :erm: Spaceboy88 12-19-2007, 11:30 AM It's still lossy and you'd still have to transcode over to something else for any device that doesn't play AAC. How many devices these days can't handle unprotected AAC? iPod and Zune both do. If the .001% of the population with some shit-box player can't play it, then they can transcode the 256 file to CD and re-rip it, or upgrade to a decent player. BurtSampson 12-19-2007, 11:30 AM I'm a bit disappointed that they picked The Rose March out of the residency songs. Peace and Love, If Only in a Dream, ?, those were all better. Has anyone thought that maybe these other songs are residency songs renamed? Quiet CD 12-19-2007, 11:33 AM Art band that said old guard wishes they were in so bad that they wish importance upon it? Sounds like a stab at Radiohead if you ask me. threetwooneZERO 12-19-2007, 11:34 AM I'm a bit disappointed that they picked The Rose March out of the residency songs. Peace and Love, If Only in a Dream, ?, those were all better. Has anyone thought that maybe these other songs are residency songs renamed? Maybe they will put them on their next EP/Album. xezton 12-19-2007, 11:35 AM This sounds like it's going to be cool. And reasonable cover "art" for a change (simple and reminds me of older pumpkins stuff). Can't wait to hear it. I remember not really liking The Rose March very much, but it's not bad. I, however, don't want to see this "release music every 4-6 months on itunes" stuff unless it's just a supplement to more albums. Like they've done. So that's good too. Hoorays all around. SlingeroGuitaro 12-19-2007, 11:37 AM the EP will be available for individual purchase on iTunes or as part of a deluxe iTunes version of the band's critically hailed 2007 album Zeitgeist. In the U.S., iTunes is the exclusive retailer; elsewhere in the world, American Gothic will be available as a physical product at retail. Fans will also be able to download the EP artwork for free via www.smashingpumpkins.com on January 2. "I have performed 'The Rose March' occasionally solo on tour, and the response from the audience always seemed to indicate the song had the 'X' quality." The song had an early unveiling in November 2006 when BILLY performed it at the Hotel Café in Los Angeles as part of a series of shows assembled by Pete Townshend's girlfriend and songwriter partner Rachel Fuller. "Afterwards, Pete came up to me and asked me if we were putting that song on Zeitgeist. I told him we weren't, and he told me I was crazy. That stuck with me--Pete certainly knows more than I." http://smashingpumpkins.com/news_2846 Elvis The Fat Years 12-19-2007, 11:40 AM why did he have to stick to acoustic. Well Warner is a worldwide company so for him to release it on an indie (or himself) would be more work for him than I'm sure he wants to deal with, especially when it comes to licensing it to different countries and territories. Also, assuming that BC's deal was for only 3 albums (Zwan, TFE, Zeitgeist), he could still release material through them without resigning an extended contract, especially something like an EP. Also, assuming that BC's deal was for only 3 albums (Zwan, TFE, Zeitgeist), he could still release material through them without resigning an extended contract, especially something like an EP. If that is the deal, then this is a break in form....the labels generally don't play small ball by doing EP deals. He could be still releasing it via Warner's, but there's gotta be something about it that keeps this thing from being physically released in the United States. If this was an iTunes-only deal there would be no physical release to speak of...but it's not, with exception to the United States, there is a physical release. Labels do those kind of EP deals all the time. A lot of times the contracts ******* clauses for singles/EPs. What I am betting on here is that the label is making this a digital-only release because it knows this is not anything that would sell hundreds of thousands of copies, so they're not putting any real marketing or production dollars into it. Also, Billy had a lot of power when signing w/Warner, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he has the right contractually to release digital-only music in the US with Warner having the option to release physically in any territory/country they want. Billy has always embraced the internet and preached it even when signed with Virgin, so I'm sure he has a lot of flexibility in this area.
