I emerge from my seemingly eternal self-imposed silence to bring good news! The collective We is happy to announce that We have just finished a new acoustic e.p. entitled 'American Gothic' that features 4 new songs:

* The Rose March
* Again, Again, Again (the crux)
* POX
* Sunkissed


Even better is the news that these songs will be available on i-tunes starting January 2nd...the collective We looks forward to you hearing these new songs afresh and us playing them to you anew on the upcoming European and Australian tours...

Since the holidays are upon us, the collective I would like to take this opportunity to give gratitude where it is due, and that is to those that are not hypnotized, or so numbed by darkness that they cannot hear the chime in my words...I wish you a warm holiday and a brilliant New Year to come, and may you get all you deserve! (again) From my heart to yours, sincerely, I hope you feel the love that we have for all of you, even for those of you who are lost and seeking, bruised and still keeping...i hope these words find you as well...

your mistake is you give people too much credit. common sense isn't common.

This is pretty cool, I didn't think it would be out so soon. I'd still like that studio version of gossamer, but I think I'd like this more. Too much zeitgeist stuff has been shoved down our throats.

I would love it, if they did this sort of thing from now on. Release about 4 to 6 songs every six months to a year, instead of releasing an album's worth every 2 to 3 years. I hope this also leads to less production in the end. After listening to Machina again this morning, I again realized how overproduced it sounded.

How many devices these days can't handle unprotected AAC? iPod and Zune both do. If the .001% of the population with some shit-box player can't play it, then they can transcode the 256 file to CD and re-rip it, or upgrade to a decent player.

So The Rose March is from the Pete Townshed shows, wow, that's pretty sweet. Kinda makes you wonder if some of the other residency songs were made at a way earlier date too. But hey this sounds promising, acoustic Pumpkins are good pumpkins. I also second the question on whether or not they changed the name of a residency song and threw it on here.

My shell's not so hard that I have to compartmentalize the band into "the real version" that does the stuff I like" and the "fake version" that does the stuff I don't.

I don't like the title "American Gothic" either. It's so cliche it hurts. But it's just a bad title, not a symptom of self-parody.

I don't have any reason to think it would be on any label but Warner/Reprise. I don't know how many albums his deal was for, but I'd think that if he was planning on releasing this EP worldwide, we'd have heard about a different label handling the distribution.

You are probably right. I'm pretty sure the contract was up after this album though. Maybe that doesn't i.n.c.l.u.d.e EPs or recordings made during tour breaks, or he just signed a 1 release deal kinda thing that Radiohead did.

Yeah, they've been very vocal w/their displeasure with the labels, but unfortunately, they probably still feel like they need them in one way or another. The only complaints I've heard that Billy had w/Warner was the complete lack of promotion for TFE. Can't say that Warner hasn't whored the shit out of Zeitgeist though!

From the few things he's said on tours, he doesn't seem too happy with them now either. If they stay with a label I could see either their deal changing to a point that has the label acting in a capability that is less hands on. That seems to be how things are going as a whole. That's just my opinion.

Correction: Chamberlin played bongos on Mayonaise. He plays a three piece drum set (a ride cymbal, kick drum, and a snare) with brushes on Cherub Rock. I imagine he'll go with something similar on this EP, although we've heard him play soft enough for such music (see Obscured or Farewell and Goodnight.) I think that versatility is what makes Chamberlin such an admirable musician.

I think of the djali zwan when I think of billy-acoustic. The drums are subtle and really set off the songs.. I am optimistic for this release. Pony Express is still up there in the upper eschelon of bc songs for me. Completely sublime.

This is exciting. Based on The Rose March I can already see myself listening to this more than Zeitgeist.
