View Full Version : Wilco vs. Pumpkins
spidersoma 12-12-2007, 02:13 AM I was perusing through Pitchfork articles today and noticed that Wilco is planning on touring. I was flabbergasted to see yet another Chicago band playing everywhere but Chicago. When asked about it, lead singer Jeff Tweedy announced they would actually do 6 residency shows in Chicago where they wouldp lay their entire library and "re-visit the corners and cobwebs."
Now, obviously the Pumpkins visiting their entire library would take more like 60 residency shows, but I would hope that Billy and Co. would take a cue from this and perhaps offer their hometown a treat such as this. While I probably wouldn't be there myself, it'd still be a great number of boots to get my hands on.
'tis a shame it will probably never happen.
Sebastian 12-12-2007, 07:58 AM And while they're at it, the Pumpkins can as well just copy Wilco's taping policy ;)

For those of us not in the know, how is it better?

They are doing five at The Riviera, I thought? And were you flabbergasted for like ten seconds between when you read they were touring and when you got to the part about their residency in Chicago in the same article?
Cherub Angel 12-12-2007, 11:31 AM Only really liked one of Wilco's album....and found the last to be a grating experience.
Sebastian 12-12-2007, 12:38 PM For those of us not in the know, how is it better?
1) They have it clearly written on their web site
2) They allow mic stands, even in the soundboard cage
3) They do a very good job at informing the venues
Actually, Wilco shows are as good as it gets from a taper's perspective. This results in better recordings for everybody to listen to. Just check out this (http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=507039) and compare it to any of my Pumpkins recordings.

JRiordan 12-15-2007, 09:45 PM All 5 shows sold out extremely fast. No surprise there. See you there!
They claim they will play every song from their albums. Not sure if that counts the Mermaid Avenue I and II albums though. Either way, gonna be a great week.
Pizza Club 12-15-2007, 11:18 PM Requesting a starting place for a Wilco n00b plz.

nah, as good as it gets would be if they let some taper just plug into the soundboard.

I won't mention whole albums ....
but songs ... "How to Fight Loneliness," "Heavy Metal Drummer," and "Via Chicago"
Check those out. See if you like 'em.

No. I'd still prefer a good AUD over a SBD recording any day.

lets go one step further and just do multitracks of every show... :erm:
