View Full Version : Poster from Madison Square Garden 7/12/96

I took this picture at MSG in NYC over the weekend. The poster is hanging near one of the restaurants in an area with a bunch of posters and memorabilia from bands that have performed there. Anyway, I just thought it was cool to see some SP love, without thinking much of it, but my friend pointed out the fact that 7/12/96 was when Melvoin died. He died in the early morning hours of 7/12, so of course neither show took place (which makes it even more interesting that they have the poster hanging, if the shows didn't even happen). I didn't realize the posters featured Melvoin prominently like that.

i've got the same poster in my bedroom. it isnt rare. i think, in fact, some company started running those after the melvoin thing happened.

damn $35 is steep, I am thinking of replacing all the posters I had and it's reading experiences like this that stop me

Although that background does kind of look like the band photo in the Mellon Collie booklet

I actually didn't know this photo was an SD promo picture, and I always assumed it was MCIS era because Corgan's hair looks especially thin.

i also have that poster. i had the band sign it on the machina in-store tour. i felt a little weird handing it to jimmy since it had melvoin's name across the bottom.

I know. It's the people like me and redbull who are keeping this band alive. When all you people are decrepit and changing each others' diapers, I'll be all young and lively and stuff.

Though... perhaps five years really isn't that big of a difference, is it?

Well, the poster WAS hanging in Madison Square Garden. Very lame that they would hang a fake one though, sorry for any confusion. Thanks for the info.

I guess I should have known when their Pearl Jam plaque just consisted of the box/discs from the "Live at the Garden" DVD, probably purchased from one of the guys selling bootleg movies outside the Garden.

i don't understand how the poster is "fake" or "edited". Sure it was mass produced beyond all belief, but how is it fake?

I consider it a decent difference at our ages. You never got to live in the 80's. Also where as you would just be getting your permit/license entering high school, I am nearing the end of college and can legally enter bars.

You were 3 at the beginning of 1990. You don't "live" when you're three. You probably don't even remember anything that happened. Or much of anything. So you're right... I really didn't get to live in the '80s. At least I know where to put the apostrophe.

(I'm not serious at all in this post... well, yes I am. But I don't really care how old any of you people are)

thats a pretty crucial ticket stub. do you still have it?

yah ive got them somewhere. For some reason I think they are actually full tickets and not stubs because I ended up getting different tickets to the same show. Either that or ticketmaster reprinted new tickets with the rescheduled date...but that wouldnt be smart.
